Hi, sorry guys been at work all day with my Hero locked in the car and no internet access (secure workshop.... sucks a lot!)

jnwhiteh - you're quite right, it was a typo on my part. I shall edit my original post, I did indeed use aosp21_eugene_manup_jnwhiteh to provide NetworkLocation.apk

I've tested it at home and two worksites today and it's picked up cell locations perfectly every time. Is there any other information I can provide for people from my phone now it's working?

Are you positive it works after a reboot with no wifi active? If so, we'll start bugging you for details =)

Oh! How strange! I rebooted and now it's not working :)

I wonder why it doesn't survive a reboot? I know it kept working, since the 'News and Weather' widget was showing my work location before I rebooted, and I'd not manually changed that since I drove to work. So at some point today whilst it was locked in the car, it had automatically changed location (wifi and gps were both turned off).

Sorry to mislead everyone, I didn't fully fix it after all.

:) hi There,

Wonderfull smoothy rom, but, I can't select/activate my 3G network, even though I configured it...What's the option to check ?

MMS out of order, too...

BTW Coming from a baked MCR 3.1, wiped, networklocation working on WiFi (strange...), and sometimes, not...ooops

keep on the hard work, this is the first2.1 that really rocks !!

Could you please try the following :

1 Turn wifi off

2 Dial *#*#4636#*#*

3 In the screen which pops-up, choose first choice (something like 'Informations on the phone')

4 In the next screen, search for the Location information, with LAC & CID data. If CID does not show as "unknown", then, Location using GSM network is working.

Could you please report ?

Thank you.

I confirm the problem.

Fresh reboot : CID = unknown, no geoloc in Maps, etc ...

And what is this result, please ?

Does NetworkLocation work, or not ?

Sorry I thought I'd made that clearer, it didn't work with any of them (CID was unknown). It must be somethign more fundamental to the ROM than networklocation.apk because switching in the file from MoDaCo 3.1 doesn't work, but I'm not sure what else is used in determining the position.

LAC = 453, CID = unknown

:)

I guess pushing networklocation.apk made wifi location burst into life (since that didn't work yesterday), but when I thought that it was pulling cell information this morning it had actually located me with wifi. It's just that never worked very well on 1.5 ROMs so with it being so precise now I assumed it was GSM location it was using.

Ho hum. Thanks for the info of how to check properly though, useful little screen that!

So, I guess that the "Network Location feature using GSM cells" does not work for anybody. And that the problem is deeper in the ROM than 'NetworkLocation.apk', i.e. can't be solved by pushing a new apk file.

As soon as this "CID = unknown" problem gets solved, I'm 100% sure everything will work again (Google Maps, Genie Widget, Locale, etc.)

Really nice work, using as main from r2.

If you became addicted to 2.01 drawer or analog clock widget, just adb push these to /system/app and reboot

(you have to rename them back to apk)

I've found an apk for installing the fancy 2.1 launcher, but it's for the droid :) Tryna work out if I can do anything to port it to the hero, but I am very low-level noob at this stuff (so used to windows OS's... :))

Yes, it seems that APK file enabled WiFi location (since that didn't work at all before) and told the phone that it could get a Cell location (since the icon in Locale changed from a cross to a tick for "Cell Location" just by pushing the file) but it doesn't actually help the phone find the CID.

We're halfway there though.... fingers crossed.

Problem in spare parts, could not set "En button behavior" in other thing than "classic"

(Otherwise camera and localization me too)

Reboot is necessary after first boot, you must write it in the first post

Droid launcher app is probably for different resolution. We will need apk from very similar device, or source code. But..difference in 2.0 and 2.01 seems to be only in different graphics, so you should try to unzip apk, look for resources and try to replace them.

Yes, at 3Mp you get a FC quite often when pressing the shutter icon. It never happens on the first shot, but once that has saved there's a good chance it will FC on the second or third shots. I think this has been covered before however, it's part of the known issue that stops it working at 5Mp.

2Mp works fine for me also but is too low resolution for decent shots so I just carry a camera too :)

NexusOne haven't the same driver?

Given that its running on a different CPU with different hardware... even if it did that doesn't help us.

Yesterday I installed R4 and I have a problem, superuser doesn't work, I have tried Titanium backup, MarketEnabler and "su" command in terminal emulator but superuser screen doesn't pops up.

I have the same problem. Using su in Terminal gives me a "Permission denied" and no popup in application requiring root privileges (tested this with Market Enabler and Wireless Tether). I've tried wiping and reflashing but the problem remains.

Hoping for a solution because otherwise this ROM is incredible! What information can I provide to help out?

I've had problems with this in all 2.0 ROMs. Turns out that my APNs (Telia/Sweden3g) aren't included in these builds. For some reason it didn't work to simply add the correct APNs manually so I extracted the /system/etc/apns-conf.xml file from the HERO21 ROM and pushed it to the same location on my phone. The mobile network connection then started up immediately on reboot.

@jnwhiteh do you think you can fix GPS problem?

It's a very good ROM the better I ever try, but without GPS it's a problem
