i need to get a new phone, after much debate over the bold 9700 and the iphone. I took a ball curve and decide to go with the samsung omnia 2 i8000. I can see there is a lot of contrubution form the comunity we are getting custom roms etc.

But is it worth the investment, i have read that it's laggy and slow. But the hardware is just amazing. So if we got custom roms i would think it should solve most of the problems. I have read that it uses 50% ram out of the box which is why it gets slow, i have seen the omnia 1 in action and did not like it one bit.

I will be getting a bell omnia 2 tomorrow, so i need to know what are the best software/rom for it and how i can tweak it so it dose not freeze and allow me to surf the net and listen to music and a few text here and there. Not new to pc a techy guy that has tweaked every inch of windows 7 to achieve best performance and visual.

I have read many post saying the samsung touchwiz 2.0 suchs, why dose it suck? I really love the HTC layout so i will probably remove touchwiz and install touchflo. So i need a good tutorial on how to so it. Whats the difference between touchflo 1.3 and rig something 2.5?

The main question is; Should i buy it? i don't care if i have to tweak it, install custom version of winmo 6.5 or whatever, aslong as it works the way it should (email, 3g, bluetooth, divx,mp4 etc) i do not care, is the end result worth the effort. or should i just jump the bridge like everyone else and get a iphone/blackberry.

My Omnia II only gets laggy and slow when it runs out of ram, but it's a common problem with Windows Mobile phones. Everytime my phone gets laggy I just turn on the 3D car racing game then turn it back off, somehow that magically frees up about 20mb of ram

so is it bearable?

That is one MAIN thing for me, if there is some way to fix the memory issue i would never look back. i wouldn't mind reset it every couple of days. But if it freezes while i'm watching a movie or listening to music that i cannot handle.

What do you mean? i seen the HTC and they run fine with windows mobile.

Also read they got android on the first omnia, hopefully someone will port it to omnia 2 also eventhough it in like alpha stages

just go it today and it seems to be alright so far i have disables the widgetplus and the touchwiz UI and wanting to install the touch flo.

What are some good apps and tweaks that i should run first. The fisrt thing i wanna do is to a full backup so i can restore it at a later time, so what and how do i go about doing that?

It a bell phone locked to bell, so i will not lose any phone functionality will i by install a custom ROM? I'm assuming flash the ROM has nothing to do with it being locked

I have installed the latest SPB backup program on my UK I8000, I have scheduled it to backup every day which also has the benefit of doing a soft reset afterwards. I have successfully restored after needing to one time. I also have SPB mobile shell running on it which works well....
