Guest shadowangel Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 When you port XIP from different version of OS, sometimes we get XIP partition smaller in size. Although it is smaller in size, but because of the insertion addresses of XIP and IMGFS (which are defined in the partition table), there is a gap between end of XIP & start of IMGFS which is filled with FF. By reducing this gap you can gain some storage space. I haven't tested it well so I can't tell you if you gain much and whether you won't have any problems. If you want to try it, go ahead, I think the worst thing that can happen is that the phone won't boot after flashing - than you just flash it again with different rom. I am not sure if it is really worth it, it was something I read about and wanted to try it. I don't think anybody has a problem with not sufficient storage space on the phone? By the way, I have moved to Galaxy S now so won't be checking this thread too often. No worries man... I wanted to ask because I didn't find anything here on your thread about it :) Indeed... the space gain would be too little to fight for :D

Guest alejandro250 Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 anyone can teach me as I cook with packages EXT thank you very much.
Guest Thunder141 Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 I'd encountered this problem, too, in the past. The reason for me was, that there was double dsm in my oem folder. I'd two packages with the same dsm by mistake and build os crashes. Removed one and all worked again. Perhaps you can investigate on this? Hi, I tried with 3.01 version, but I met problem I can not build new nb0. Here attached is the log file. Can you please help me to say what's wrong? Thank you!

Guest Thunder141 Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) In the posts and in the screenshots I see some differences. There is xiporg folder and in screenshot xip_org folder, there are sys_xxxx folders in the screenshots. How do I exactly change my rom to a new xip/sys version If I have: - A dump of my actual rom with all folders (sys, rom, etc) - sys folder of the rom I want to port to with corresponding language folders - msxipkernel and msxipkerneltk folder of the new rom build Does anyone can explain which folders i have to set up in the romtool kitchen folder? And with the ext_packages. If I check more than one ext_package, i get error app.dat already exists Edited October 30, 2010 by Thunder141
Guest Lancez Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 basically, the SYS_219xx(231xx) gose to the your working folder and XIP_219xx(231xx) gose to XIPTool folder. when u start ROMTool buildOS tab, look for the new SYS at upper right corner, drop down and select the new sys you want to build. about third party apps, you can convert them to OEM then put them in OEM folder, then u'll be able to select them in the buildOS window.
Guest Thunder141 Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Thx, that works for me. :) But for the own apps if have them in the oem folder tey are only for one rom tree. I undestand EXT_OEM, that I can choose them for every rom tree. That basically works, my packages are shown in the ext tab, but if I select more than one i get the error during the build process, that apps.dat already exists. And in every ext folder there is one apps.dat and one apps.reg. basically, the SYS_219xx(231xx) gose to the your working folder and XIP_219xx(231xx) gose to XIPTool folder. when u start ROMTool buildOS tab, look for the new SYS at upper right corner, drop down and select the new sys you want to build. about third party apps, you can convert them to OEM then put them in OEM folder, then u'll be able to select them in the buildOS window.

Guest bobhero Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 I am editing my carrier's CSC file and I'm having some trouble understanding the meaning of "length, type, itemID, elementcount" from the IMEIcanada.pfg file. Guest Gollumek Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Hi, I am a beginner with cooking, but I want to learn it :( I am trying to dump some nb0 file, but I have some problems... I download the I8000kitchen package last version, when I set work dir, select nb0 file and click on Run, so, when is the Use PkgTool checked, romTool said that PkgTool.exe is not working so and dumping is canceled. When i checked Use this application, windows says that romTool.exe stop working and application is terminate. I give here some screens - there is possible to see, where the romTool terminate. And log where the PkgTool stop working and all dumping is canceled. this is Terminated romTool and this is stop working pkgtool.exe And here is MsgLog: Done... Check for Error Messages. *** Files/Folders Deleted D:\i8000cooking\i8000kitchen\new\boot.bin *** Files/Folders Deleted D:\i8000cooking\i8000kitchen\new\msflsh.bin *** Files/Folders Moved to D:\i8000cooking\i8000kitchen\new\ROM *** Files/Folders Moved to D:\i8000cooking\i8000kitchen\new\ROM *** Files/Folders Moved to D:\i8000cooking\i8000kitchen\new\XIPTools\Xip\ Exited ... tools\dump.exe Started ... tools\dump.exe *** Created File xip.bin Exited ... tools\osnbtool.exe Started ... tools\osnbtool.exe *** Imgfs.bin dumped to packages *** Files/Folders Deleted D:\i8000cooking\i8000kitchen\new\Dump\ Exited ... tools\pkgtool.exe Started ... tools\pkgtool.exe Exited ... tools\ImgfsToDumpxxx.exe Started ... tools\ImgfsToDumpxxx.exe *** Created File Rom\imgfsLZX.src *** Created File Rom\imgfs.src *** Created File imgfs.bin *** Created File xip.nb *** Created File PDA.nb0.pre Please Wait...
