Hi, would you recommend me buying the omnia i8000 because I hear it has a lot of problems. Memory leak, freeze, weak battery. Are those things fixed with new firmware JA1? Will it have memory leak out of the box without any apps installed?

Well I am stll with L2 firmware and I don't have a memory leak! 6 days without a reset and still 50mb free, lots of programs used!

It doesn't freeze, but it will if you try to do a lot of things not even after 2 minutes has passed since you turned your phone on!

And I really don't have a weak battery, I achieve 7-9 days before I recharge it!

I'm using latest version (JA1) - no issues for me. As for battery life, if you've just switched from HTC Touch Diamond as I have, the Omnia battery lasts forever :)

Memory leak (or anyway low free memory): YES

Freeze: NO

Weak battery: NO, better than any other high end phone in the market

People are complaining about battery life of I8000. I totally agree with you. Omnia has best battery life of all phones/PDAs I had before.

how do you check that? i when under settings>system>device is that correct?

My last 2 digits are "J6" for PDA, CSC, Phone. Dose that mean i have something higher then what you guys have?

I just got it (sorry a newbie) and so far so good been up like 12 hours and no freezes, and i'm trying to freeze's it so i can figure out when and how it happens but it has not as of yet, i notice it just starts closing apps that use the most amount of resources like opera. But no freezing yet.

so should i then update, i see the the procedure on how to flash. But where can i get a updated stock update for January such as the JA1. I tried using the new pc studio but that said my device dose not support updates.

Note i have the i8000L from bell

Are you sure that was the correct link, it would be prefect for a bell update such as JA1 that thread just seems like a thread to get a dump of a i8000L which i can now make. But i want the latest version that i should flash.

Is it this one here?

I've had mine freeze a few times but less than the average iPhone user and this may be caused by the memory leak.

If it's not caused by that then I've never had an issue with memory.

Battery though is the best I've had on any device, not used my phone much over the past week and I've still got 54% left.

You can easily watch a good couple of films etc without a problem.

i recommend you get one, for me it was between the iphone or the omnia and was considering the galaxy.

Did't go galaxy due to it only running android 1.5 and the hardware was that not as good. Iphone i despise coz of itunes and the fact that everyone has it, therwise amazing device but lacks when in comparison to omnia 2 hardware. Took the plunge for the i8000 and could not be happier.

It dose not freeze atleast it didn't when using the samsung touchwiz, Installed touchflo and it froze twice maybe a bug i dunno. But otherwise a great device.

The amount of utilities and custom ROM's that you get and you can't go wrong

Memory Leak: None here. Only time I worry about RAM is when I'm using Opera Browser to view multiple Flash heavy websites which Windows Phoness weren't designed for anyway. BTW, I suggest you use the 4 columns CAB for the default WM start menu and ditch Samsung's Touch menu as it eats 8 - 10 MB of RAM. Also, I suggest you switch of the 3D task manager as it eats up a lot of RAM as well.

Freeze: Same thing, only when viewing multiple Flash heavy websites, which, again, Windows phones weren't designed for (I definitely hope Flash 10.1 will change this *sob*).

Battery life: Lasts me a day... Why? I upgraded my mobile phone subscription to include unlimited internet/data plan at 3.6 Gbps HSDPA speed for an additional PhP 650 per month (That's less than US$ 13.55, BTW) and I'm now connected 24/7 to Palringo (Best MSN/Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Facebook chat, etc client) + Activesync (For my Gmail) + Google Maps (For my Google Latitude)!!! :-D

*Edited out a completely irrelevant question. Sorry about that.*

Jes... where do both of you heard the untruth about Omnia-2 bad comments from?

From other brand device forum? From Omnia-1 hard core/die hard fans forum?

1. Memory Leak?

This is a native or I should said it was inside PPC/WM-OS devices blood. NO manufacturer can ever change that.

So far I do not have to restart as my Omnia-2 became laggy or phone slow in response due to low RAM problem.

2. Freeze?

I had myselfand 20+ Omnia-2 that belong to friends and colleagues never happen before.

3. Weak Battery?

Sometime ago, I'd purposely left my Omnia-2 for 6 days untouched, and on the 7days when I picked it up, it still left about 33% of battery power.

All this with 3G Phone mode, CPU performance set to Auto, Brightness Auto adjustment and default Black theme. Amazing right?

Frankly, I'd owned both Omnia-1 and Omnia-2. I had many of my friends and colleagues follow my advices buying into Omnia-1 and then Omnia-2.

So far for the same usage I can say, Omnia-2 battery life is ON PAR with the old, slower and small tft-lcd screen Omnia-1.

To me Omnia-2 was really amazing. It has bigger 3.7" AMOLED screen, 800Mhz CPU, 256MB RAM and 512MB phone memory.

On top of that Omnia-2 come with,

1. Dedicated H.264 MP4-AVC decoder (not MP4-AVI) that play high quality 720x480 30fps video.

The H.264 MP4 video file are just like RealVideo9 format file, not only with excellent video quality but also has smaller file size.

Fully charged the Omnia-2 and I can watch 4 2hours movie, about 18~20hours playback of MP3.

Omnia-2 AMOLED screen has at least 3x more brightness, 50x more contrast ratio, 246x more color than the old Omnia-1 TFT-LCD screen.

Omnia-2 by far, the BEST quality video playback phone among iPhone 3G/3GS, and all other WM devices including the HTC HD2/TP2/D2, period.

2. Very fast GPS lock-on. Basically with Singapore Agis NAVFone software (A-GPS assisted), when I activate it at basement carpark,

by the time I drove my car out from basement carpark to open road, all I need to do was count 3~5sec and GPS already locked-on, navigation started.

3. Phonebook, File Manager and all other programs screen scrolling definitely much faster than the old Omnia-1.
