i920 official upgrade question

i downloaded the update a week ago and tried to flash about 10 times. i tried on my computer running windows vista x64 sp2, and i also tried on my girlfreinds laptop running windows xp sp2, the closest i got was the phone hanging at 79% then getting a message on the computer stating that the update failed. any suggestions? is it even worth the trouble?

Also can somebody explain to me why we cannot take this upgrade and make a clean custom rom out of it? Im just wondering what is missing here, do we not have the necessary ingredients? or is there just not enough interest? Thanks ahead of time.

unless you were having trouble with dropped calls then I wouldn't bother with the update, as for the custom ROMS..people are working on it. The problem has something to do with extracting it and then finding a way to get it back on the phone once a ROM is made. the i910 was easy because the samsung software to load the img file was leaked as well as the beta ROM. So right now the primary issue is finding a way to get any ROM that may pop up back onto the phone.
