small problem with wifi connection

Hi,

I have a problem (it is more an inconvenience than a problem) with my wifi connection.

The thing is when I try downloading something using my wifi connection (some podcasts for instance), the phone switches off (or maybe freezes) the wifi after it locks the screen.

Obviously you can tamper with the lock screen kick off time but could you tell me how to disable the wifi connection from freezing?

I know that this is probably a very stupid question but I need help!
