I had to hard reset my i920 this weekend after installed something to Mobile Shell that left it fouled up. I tried to do it via the hardware keys, and could not it. I finally had to use the software method which worked just fine.

There could be times though if the device is stuck that only a hardware hard reset will work. I tried a dozen times and each time I got the Omnia welcome screen not the reformat confirmation screen. I have seen posts with both

up volume - lock - send - end all held at the same time

and

down volume - lock - send - end all held at the same time

neither worked for me. What is the trick to be able to hard reset?

Thanks.

DV/L/S/E works for me... be sure you start with the phone powered off -- always works for me that way, never could get it to work holding the keys during a reboot, when the Omnia II logo comes on. In contrast to the 910, this was the time to press the S/E keys and get it to reset.

And yes, I agree it was stupid to add the other to buttons making it necessary to be a professional contortionist in order to press the keys...

From Samsung's site:

http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/mobile/...mp;tab=support#

Pull the battery cover up and off

Carefully insert a thin blunt object (such as a stylus) into the reset slot, located on the lower left side, below the OK button

Immediately after pressing the reset slot, press the following keys TOGETHER, SEND key, END key and LOCK key at the same time

Note: The buttons must be pressed exactly at the same time

Touch Yes to confirm formatting the handset

Hard Reset: This will reset your device ONLY and will not erase or format your storage card or My Storage

NOTE: Perfoming a hard reset will delete ALL personal data and information (contacts, applications, widgets) from the device and restore it to default factory settings.

To perform a hard reset follow the steps below:

Pull up on the area indicated by the arrow (1) then pull the battery cover up and off (2), as shown below

It is really simple.

Turn off your omnia. Press vol up an lock together an keep pressing.

Keep pressing vol. up and lock , with other hand press together "answer" an "end call" button. Now keep pressing all 4 buttons untill you will see hard reset screen.

Really simple.

according to my experience, if your omnia shut down inappropriately, you have to Keep pressing vol. up and lock , with other hand press together "answer" an "end call" button, and then press the reset key.
