If you break your omnia, do you get an omnia 2?

i'm gonna get a plan going to get them to replace it 3 times then give me a new one and not make it look suspicious that the same problem is happening 4 times. i already have problems with my screen alignment being way off so i can do that for the first one. 2nd one i'm going to try to give it the endless loop on calibration. 3rd one i'm going to pull the cord on cf03 update and brick it. what about the final one? any ideas? lol

pull plug at least 3/4 of the way into flash. Its tougher than we think to crash. you want to mess up phone portion of cf03...

^^ Thats what i did. Not much they can do with it once they get it back from ya.

Now i have an Eris and I must say, Im really diggin it. Would love to get the update for this, but like the Omnia, in due time, the update will come.

First thing I did was get my iGo nav running on this new Eris. GOOD LORD...I dont even get to the door to go outside and its got a GPS lock. Or if I start the app in my truck, before iGo is even fully open, its locked. Screen is beautiful too.

I hate how they send REFURBS... I "broke" my phone at went to the store this weekend to try and get a different phone. They offered me a Blackberry Storm (first one) or a HTC Touch Pro. Dang those phones are slow. I just decided to keep my Omnia. I love this thing!

Received another referb with usb issues... Tech support says its my 3 laptops that have the usb issues.... 4 weeks and I can upgrade early!!

I see that Best Buy has there phones much cheaper than VZW. Can we upgrade early using Best Buy?

Thanks

thats strange that they are blaming it on YOU. I honestly had no problems getting a different phone. They were super helpful and even CALLED ME if they couldnt send me the phone they initially thought they could.

Your contract is your contract no matter where you re-sign it at.

I would give another shot at calling vzw tech support.

Still LOVING my Eris! Just can't wait to get this thing rooted.

So.... been reading this... and...

No one has "lost" or "broke" or "had their friend steal" their phone and got a omnia 2?

I don't want to pay the $50 to get another Omnia when I could pay $99 at best buy for a Droid when its time to renew.

^^^ Thats the key factor in this. No one is spending any money. If you just got through warranty and try for something new and different and they end up sending you another Omnia, you're not out any money. You're just right back were you started.

If you go through insurance you have to pay the $50 and theres a good chance you'll get another Omnia. That would be a huge waste of $50

kindve what i was thinking... I have verizons TEC Insurance (Asurion) and if lost/stolen/dmg'ed the phone would be replaced after paying 50... well, the phone is worth $10's now! Why would i fork out 50 when i can easily convince a sales rep to speak the higher up to get me the current deal and renew my contract (how i got my omnia deal 6 months before my new on 2)?

Was interested in this thread because i was wondering if i should switch to Droid... like if my phone was mysteriously gone... pay 50 for insurance to get a droid. Verizon you can definitly kindve haggle with (within reason), but i dont know if they would fly low as say, 50, for the droid (im sure 100... but still not worth the switch at that point IMO)

As for the bro who got a omnia 2 and the other guy with the eris, how much of a hassle was this? How many calls, time it took to recieve the phone, did you have to replace your phone multiple times?

As far as im concerned... if they are selling the omnia i910 like candy now for $10 a pop, im sure if i get it replaced im going to get some sort of omnia i910 back... being it refurbished from say peeps in this post sending them into verizon/asurion while Verizon/Asurion turns around dishing it out to the next chump in line, or a brand new omnia i910

I got 3 Omnias before i got the droid. It was tough to actually get a different phone from tech sup. cause the just dont have the phones.

They basically have a spread sheet that shows what phones are available to them to send out, but none of those "phones" include back covers or batteries. So from there its a crap shoot as to what they have all the parts for.

Once I got tech support on my side, they were SUPER helpful in getting me a replacement.

It really all revolves around saying you have the endless screen align loop. This is a known problem at VZW and they have reported it to Samsung. So, if that is "your issue" than they seem to be very helpful.

I LOVE THE ERIS. Sprite makes a software that takes all your winmo info, converts it and puts it on the your new Android.

So the key is to call VZW tech correct? Not Samsung.

Correct. When i would call in to Verizon, i would immediately ask for Tech Support. They would then ask me what my issue was. I would tell them endless screen calibration and the phone not waking up. They would transfer me to tech sup.

I didnt. Along with the screen align issues I also mentioned I was having infinite sleep/lockup issues. That way when I sent it in bricked, theres no questions asked. This is all assuming they even check the phones out upon receiving them.

This was all in the event (which never happened) that they contacted me and said "We received the phone and it wont even power on" Well, i was having all sorts of issues, like i told you, i guess the issues finally got the better of the phone.

Either way, i flashed to CF03, pulled the plug part way through and sent it back.

I've been enjoying my Droid Eris ever since.

this still seems like a possibility for me... someone who has paid about 17 months of 6.99 on 2 phones for insurance ($119x2=$238). But really... the main questions like; How much of a hassle was this, how many times did you have to talk to someone to finally convince them to send you another phone, was this just "brick/software/hardware" glitch/failure or has someone lost or had their cell stolen?

Heh... Im so intrigued by this post i kindve want to do a research project with it. Jot down my info of calling into VZW. How many times/conversation had/what was discussed.

After seeing this post i really thought of how much i paid into this pointless insurance... pointless to me now due to the fact i dont toss my phone around or disregard it (got it though because it was my 1st smart phone and was a whopping 199 (w/another i910 free - after rebate). But i stick to my earlier point, the phone is $10 now, why wouldnt they just send me either a refurb or new i910 (thus the what made others get a different mobile)

VZW has been helpful in the past. Not tech wise but customer service wise, havent dealt with their tech group yet.

i really think this scenario is far fetched.... no joke... but, anything to make the customer happy and keep their $99+additional line's/data plan(x)2 business, right?

From my experience in the whole deal, this had nothing to do with "how much you spend" Im on a share plan with my wife, we split 750 minutes and Im the only one with a smartphone. On top of that, we get a 20% discount on service. So, in comparison to a lot of others, we aren't spending crap!

Onto total rundown.

First omnia had serious endless screen align issues. Called VZW, transferred to Tech, they were helpful and asked me the standard "did you hard reset" I told them yes and let them know that im quite knowledgeable of the phone and ive tried everything. That was really all the conversation cosisted of. Maybe lasted 5 mins total with tech and they sent out a new (refurb) device.

That worked great for about three months, then the screen lost all sensitivity, almost unusable. Called tech, was very nice, explained i did hard reset, blah blah blah. They overnight me a refurb. During this call i asked them what we were gonna do if this kept happening...bad omnias. Not ever implying i wanted a different phone, just putting it out there. They responded that "we'll see how this one goes and if you have more problems, we'll go from there"

Well, i was going to give this 3rd omnia a good couple months before i played my last card, but my brother got the Eris (his first smartphone) and was impressed and jealous. NOT COOL. Not that i needed the Eris, but he's not tech savvy at all and he had something better and nicer.

So, after 2 short weeks with the 3rd omnia, i made the call to tech support. Saying that i had the endless screen align AND that my phone keeps going to infinite sleep and that i need to keep it plugged in all the time so i dont miss calls. The latter of these two "problems" was to cover me since i couldnt make the phone to the screen align issue when sent in. This way i could brick it and blame it on the infinite sleep.

So, on this call I brought up trying a different phone, they were hesistant. Offered to let me use my new every two early. Not too bad of a deal, but i said i wasn't too into the idea of renewing my contract AND shelling out $100-$200 just for a working phone. So we went back and forth for a bit about some options. I WAS VERY PATIENT AND POLITE the whole time.

Eventually he warmed up to the idea of a different model replacement. That call probably took a good 30 mins or better. But once they agreed to get me something different. They did all they could for me. Even CALLED ME like 6 different times letting me know they were still working on it. One time offered me the original Touch Pro, i politely asked if i could decline the offer due to a previous bad experience with that phone...really just wanted the hot thing.

So after that I almost got a TP2, thought i had the O2, neither of them had the back cover tho. Then finally they called and said "we have a droid eris we could overnight you, will that work for you? Great, verify or address and its on its way" Got the eris phone and a newly packaged back cover, new battery and charger. put the omnia in the box and never looked back.

The way the tech rep handled me I thought was fair and to tell the truth I liked the O2.

I only have a 200 minute plan plus the required date deal, that's all i need. If I was paying for more minutes he could have received the "OK"from his superior for the Eris

I hate the Samsung beach ball and the stupid widgets but that now can be "fixed" thanks to new rom's

Next fall i really plan to go to the "robot" and be asimulated :(

:( :(
