Guest meinnit Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Just to add my phone has been going for 36 hours since its last charge and it currently on 35% battery power with the following usage: 25 texts sent Approx the same texts received 3 hours phone call Approx 30 minutes of internet and general app usage 5 minutes of Wifi No GPS usage With the Background Data and Use Wireless Networks settings enabled my battery wouldn't have lasted 24 hours with that amount of usage! There is obviously something seriously wrong with one of these settings.
Guest speedme Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I have turned Background Data off and I still am able to receive my hotmail emails (configured as POP3 in the build in email app). I now am testing Gmail to see if it still is able to receive emails.

Background data must be on to enable auto sync for Gmail app.

Background data must be on to enable auto sync for Gmail app. I thought so, but I was curious ;) Apparently Gmail app does obey this setting, whilst the email app (pop3 hotmail) doesn't obey this setting (I'm able to receive my hotmail email even though Background Data setting is off). Oh well, I'm using my hotmail as primary email anyway and can live with the Gmail app to manually sync if that provides me with a better battery time :D
Guest bencoder Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 For me, turning off 3G(wireless->mobile->2G only option) makes a huge difference, and still allows everything to sync, albeit slowly, in the background. I just turn 3G on when I need higher speed for browsing/downloading.

Guest quincy456 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 quincy456 : you using the tmobile rom? if so bin it asap sorry only just noticed you asked me a question! i got rid of the TM rom a while back - i think i have too many widgets going on, got rid of BBC news and it's a bit better - also i use 2g only only get a day at best though - i use bluetooth for at least 2hrs a day in the car...
Guest meinnit Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I am trying my phone in 2G mode now

I can vouch for there not being a problem with the T-Mobile Rom in respect of battery life as I am now getting 5-6 days between charges!
Guest meinnit Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I can vouch for there not being a problem with the T-Mobile Rom in respect of battery life as I am now getting 5-6 days between charges! How much usage does that include eg. calls, texts, wifi, GPS, app and net usage?
Guest chris9181 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 How much usage does that include eg. calls, texts, wifi, GPS, app and net usage? To be fair its probably not as much use as some of you guys/gals. 20-25 txts per day, no calls or gps, one hour per day app and net usage, and a bit of time generally playing. I turn it off when I go to bed and back on again at 7.30am.
Guest bedevil99 Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 I seem to be worse off with the Vanilla 1.7 as I was with the stock rom as far as battery life goes...strange isn't it...anyway I guess I will stick to MCR as the phone seems so much better now.
Guest Bice Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 My battery has charged second time. I've plugged out of the charger on friday morning, between 8 and 10 o'clock. I've used Wifi, sent and received messages, called people, tested gps, played chess, set up and installed lot of programs, listened to music and watched videos on youtube and just poked the screen... The battery is on 43% at the moment. I think I used the cell phone above normal, but the battery is still in good condition. I've turned off the unecessary things, like autosync, disabled every communication in APNdroid, lowered the screen light and the screen turn off time, disabled vibration when I press an onscreen button. I think this battery is very strong. :)

Yes I noticed this as well. Battery life has gone down quite dramatically since I installed 1.7. Not sure why though. Perhaps this is something to look into for the next update! <keeps fingers crossed>

Perhaps this is something to look into for the next update! <keeps fingers crossed> Do you have the following settings enabled? I find the battery life very poor, even with minimal usage but now I've finally found a way to save a considerable amount of battery power! I simply disabled the following 2 options: Settings -> Data synchronization -> Background data Settings -> Security & location -> Use wireless networks Before I made the changes I was using 10% battery power on standby overnight (approx 8 hours) and now it's using just 2%! I don't have any widgets, background apps or auto-syncs running. I'm not sure which setting had the most effect on battery life but I'm going to do some more tests to find out.

Guest meinnit Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 That's strange, because for me, I noticed that the battery life actually increased with the MCR. Yup me too BUT I had to disable the 2 settings I mentioned earlier. I didn't actually test these settings with stock ROM so I don't know if its 1.7 causing the problems. Would be interesting to hear from people with stock ROM whether these 2 settings cause a degrade in battery life.
Guest mark2410 Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 okay my current battery life is getting horrific, its lasting half a day of doing almost nothing. has anyone fond a source of spare batterys?
Guest Azurren Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 (edited) okay my current battery life is getting horrific, its lasting half a day of doing almost nothing. has anyone fond a source of spare batterys? I use my pulse heavily and it still lasts from morning to morning with battery to spare (about 15-17 hours give or take and around 20-30% when but on charge) I used to have terrible battery life, getting rid of badly written apps really help. I changed my facebook / weather / email to check every hour, wiped all widgets and apps and started again. (Switching Wifi, 3g and GPS and the GPS alternative (Use wireless networks to detect your location) off when not using them will give you an extra few hours) If you are really desperate turn data service off.. But mines on 24/7 But if it's a problem with your battery then sorry, I have seen some "Pulse compatible" batteries around but I don't know if they are genuinely for sale / any good (Most of these sites look like poo) :) Edited March 26, 2010 by Azurren
Guest ogiogi Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 okay my current battery life is getting horrific, its lasting half a day of doing almost nothing. has anyone fond a source of spare batterys? Try uninstalling some apps or removing widgets. See if any of them drain your battery.
Guest mark2410 Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 i assume just having something installed wont matter, only whats running. i use taskiller so the only things normally running on it is touchpal, battery manager, togle data, pc services, shake awake and i used to have fring running but the battery like has meant its always killed now

So i didn't now what was draining the battery. Fixed it with reflashing the phone.

I have heard that some battery apps constantly work behind the scenes refreshing their status, bringing your phone out of sleep. Some apps aren't picked-up by advanced task killer. What I would suggest (Just to rule out battery issues) would be to back-up your apps and remove them. Then just use it normally and see if it lasts any better.
Guest oOBENJYOo Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 My girlfriends pulse battery life is piss poor even with no widgets so I joined "ad free" and payed a visit to the kitchen and they popped a rom in the oven for me .... will attempt root and install today....wish me luck, if it fails my girl will dump me : O

Just remember to wipe before flashing the custom rom and don't follow the optional steps to enable apps to sd. (formatting the memory card) Just remember that wiping will delete all your apps, calender and contacts, google keeps a backup of your contacts and calender unless you disabled it. installing a custom rom is very easy and not much can go wrong. Good luck Just note that a custom rom will help battery life but good battery management is essential, turning off 3g and wifi unless needed.
