Initial ROM testing: Files removed from 21863 ROM

UPDATE:

Here is the Lightweight ROM i made. No guarantees! It worked for me but as usual, your mileage may vary. This is based of the stock 21863 ROM not the new 6.5.3, so the dialer works like normal and this has the standard start menu at the top.

important!! You will need to use the right softkey and change the TouchWiz to disabled after you flash this ROM! The start menu defaults to mainmenu.exe, but it has been removed, so if you want touchwiz, leave this setting alone and copy mainmenu.exe back to the Windows folder.

I should not that this ROM is stripped down to just basic windows, Office, Adobe Reader and the fav Samsung apps, like calendar, clock, dialer and the settings menu. Optional to use any of them, i just found them better than the base windows variants. Opera, all windows Titanium / widgets have been removed, as well as Swype, Nuance Voice Control, and all the graphics for the now not-included Samsung home screen.

Another quick note! IF YOUR AUDIO DOES NOT WORK - I made 13 variants of this ROM before it was finalized, for 2 of those ROMs my audio did not work out of the box until i installed the SWS WOW 2.cab. If this happens to you, install this cab and your audio will be back. Again, it only happened with 2 previous builds, and did NOT happen to me on the final, but hey, anything can happen so this is your heads up.

Also, do NOT disable the built-in dialer if you want your send key mapped to the phone app. Disabling it in registry or SKTools will PERMANENTLY disable it even if you reenable the dialer!

No warranties here, but ive freed up a significant amount of space with these gone. Keep in mind this will remove just about everything Samsung/Touchwiz related except the Calendar and Clock and the Samsung settings menu, in case you want to use them.

For SYS, CHome is the default titanium panels. If you want to remove that,you can remove bronze as well. You'll want lockscreenNonEA if you ever plan on using the default WM6.5 lockscreen.

Before you start playing with SYS stuff, you should all read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544445 through at least post 5.

Thanks for the info, i've never done ROM cooking before so it was a stab in the dark! I was looking at the registry entries and other files to build a list of things i didn't need/use. This will give me a better direction to go in, thanks again!

I see some of these files have developer notes in them, like dates they enabled / disabled / changed things. Very interesting.

I finally have a stable ROM cooked for myself, 226MB storage free, 92MB RAM. Nothing but stock apps, and Samsung calendar, clock, dialer and settings menus. I have installed NetCF3.5, Voice Command, SPB MobileShell3.5, Opera 10 Beta2u, as well as some other proggies for a grand total of 65MB RAM free and just over 155MB storage. Running very quick and no issues found so far! Very happy for sure!

My next challenge is looking how to cook .cab files into this ROM so i can slipstream a lot of this if i ever change things.

BTW im sticking with ROM 21863 for now until the dialer and BT issues are addressed, I might play around with them but im content with the 'old style' start menu so not a big deal to me.

I have installed NetCF3.5, Voice Command, SPB MobileShell3.5, Opera 10 Beta2u, as well as some other proggies for a grand total of 65MB RAM free and just over 155MB storage. Running very quick and no issues found so far! Very happy for sure!

My next challenge is looking how to cook .cab files into this ROM so i can slipstream a lot of this if i ever change things.

BTW im sticking with ROM 21863 for now until the dialer and BT issues are addressed, I might play around with them but im content with the 'old style' start menu so not a big deal to me.

Right now im still having the issue with the Start menu that is mapped to mainmenu.exe until you go into the TouchWiz settings and shut it off, other than that everything is perfect. If you can live with having to shut of TouchWiz when you first flash it it is good to go...

Well i lost my OEM shortly after i got it and have been using a cable from my wifes LG phone, flashed 28 times so far and no problems. So im going to say no, the OEM is not critical.

I tested it a while ago and was getting about 1.2MBps down, which maxed out my connection. But i see now about 10 people are pulling from it! I have a 100mbit connection so it might be strained, wasnt expecting such a high demand :)

don't know what's going on with my connetion. I can only get 7.6kbs dl. I tried again after last night and when I woke up this morning it had cancelled!! I have rr turbo, so I get on average 300kbps.....

If you can upload to 4shared or even rapidshare that'd be great!!

UPDATE:

Here is the Lightweight ROM i made. No guarantees! It worked for me but as usual, your mileage may vary. This is based of the stock 21863 ROM not the new 6.5.3, so the dialer works like normal and this has the standard start menu at the top.

important!! You will need to use the right softkey and change the TouchWiz to disabled after you flash this ROM! The start menu defaults to mainmenu.exe, but it has been removed, so if you want touchwiz, leave this setting alone and copy mainmenu.exe back to the Windows folder.

I couldn't find a way either to remove the mainmenu.exe and replace it with the winmo start menu with no extra steps. (Does anyone actual know? It would be really helpful)

Well in the meantime I like your solution so I'm going to steal it :)

BTW I just installed your rom and it's looking good!! Great job!!

Me either, the only 100% way to get it fixed was to leave the Samsung settings.exe in tact so i could go in and remove it. There is a link somewhere buried in the registry that it overriding the start button but i have yet to find it. Im glad you like the ROM, i may release one here soon that has all my customizations done to it, seems to be pretty popular with my friends anyways. More to come on that later....

Still can't download rom. Don't know what's wrong!! Even tried dl from work and only getting 8Kbps max! At home I just had to restart it because it stopped at 46mb.... If not too much hassle can you upload to 4share? If not, I'll just keep trying....
