Guest ZeroXtreme Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) After reading through the thread of secany's latest ROM, I have seen a lot of users saying that when the eboot part of the JA5 ROM is flashed, the total program memory available goes up to 144MB from the old 139MB, it may not be as much as we hoped but 5MB is still 5MB and we can use as much program memory as we can get... Now the question is can we flash just the "Eboot_I8000NXXJA5_HW_40.eb0" file on a device running a different custom ROM, CSC and phone? I suppose this applies to other users too who prefer lite ROMs, or 6.5.x ROMs, I mean I like secany's ROMs (Thank you very much secany for all the effort you put into this), but I have no use for most of the Samsung OEM software, and prefer a stripped down Windows Mobile version with lots of space and few TSRs. I guess it comes down to a matter of personal preference. I ask this question since in numerous posts you will see that it is ok to flash, and re-flash the PDA, phone and CSC part over and over again without the risk of bricking your O2. But there is also mention to keep away from flashing the eboot portion as this could lead to a brick. I have flashed all 4 files (PDA, phone, CSC and eboot) before, but as a set. I have also tried flashing different combinations of the PDA, CSC and phone part, but I have never tried flashing just the eboot portion. My concern is the eboot might be specific to the ROM set it came with, and it is scary to try to flash it as it may brick my device. Can any of the chefs, developers or gurus please shed some light on this? Thanks in advance. Edited January 28, 2010 by ZeroXtreme
Guest ZeroXtreme Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Ok.... I took the plunge and flashed all 4 parts of secany's JA5 ROM on my device successfully, afterwhich I re-flashed the current ROM, CSC and phone I am using without the eboot, and yes I have the additional 5MB since my total program memory reads at 144.17MB. So this confirms that the additional 5MB of program memory does come from the eboot part of secany's JA5 ROM. My question still stands though regarding if you can just flash the eboot part of the ROM without the other parts. I didn't want to try at the risk of bricking my device. Anyway, I hope this was useful info :) Edited January 28, 2010 by ZeroXtreme
Guest stylus1828 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Thanks ZeroXtreme for the info. I'm gonna try to flash eboot 2 to see if i can get the 5 mb of ram!
Guest ZeroXtreme Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Thanks ZeroXtreme for the info. I'm gonna try to flash eboot 2 to see if i can get the 5 mb of ram! You are welcome, always glad to be of service. If you are planning on flashing just the eboot, could you post the results? I'm sure it would also be useful information for other users. Thank you.
Guest defaultBR Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 btw someone can answer, for i8000L, it have a risk? or not?? i know that phone and csc yes(csc because the operator configs)
Guest johnchan Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 So all ANYONE with an Omnia II GSM has to do to get 5Mb more RAM is simply flash the JA5 eboot, and you instantly get 5Mb RAM extra free? So that means forget flashing in PDA, CSC, etc... just go straight for the eboot whatever you do to get 5Mb free! And if Samsung are as good as they are so far, we might see even more than 5Mb later :-) and make our devices actually multitask usefully :-)

I think.. please provide a statement from someone who has done this. :)
Guest ZeroXtreme Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 No it's not confirmed this would work. I think.. please provide a statement from someone who has done this. :) It seems that you can just flash the eboot portion according to the other thread, someone just flashed the eboot part, but he says that it did not change the total amount of program memory of his device. So there is still no guarantee at this point. Anyone correct me if I am wrong.
Guest stylus1828 Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Does not work for me. Flashed the eboot file and my ram memory did not changed! :) any other solution? P.S. thanks ZeroXtreme for the link!

P.S. thanks ZeroXtreme for the link! Have you tried flashing the entire JA5 ROM set (i.e. PDA, CSC, Phone and eboot)? Thats what I did, then I hard reset again to be sure. After that, I just re-flashed my old ROM, Phone and CSC, that definitely worked for me.

Hello ZeroXtreme, Can I ask how much free RAM available after flashing and w/c custom rom you used? I'm using JA5 version for now but i'm planning to flash back on Rodrigo's O2 lite.

I'm using JA5 version for now but i'm planning to flash back on Rodrigo's O2 lite. I'm also using Rodrigo's latest ultralite ROM, just running Titanium today with the CHero Clock, S2U2, Samsung Dialer, and a few others and I average at around 67-69MB free now. I'm sorry but I don't remember the free RAM right after a clean flash of Rodrigo's ultralite ROM without anything else running.

Anyway, I hope this was useful info :) Im a not a chief, just a novice like many users but I have flashed the eboot part of my omnia several times based on the ROMS available and what I prefer without any problem. On each occasion I load only the eboot part to octan for the flashing and when this has been done and the omnia has rebooted I go ahead and load whatever part of wwhich rom I want to octan and then do another flash. For instance what I have on my omnia right now is PDA : JA5 CSC : JA5 Eboot : L1 (Formally had J9 to LI then L1 to L5, then to JA1, JA5 and back to L1) Phone : DXI The beauty is that there is so much flexibility to whatever combination you want. On each occasion I ensure my omnia is fully charged and it is off before I connect it to my PC for flashing and I do a hard reset after ( The masters on the forum at times say another hard reset is unnessary but I do this anyway as my preference and it works for me) Good luck.

I will be flashing Rod's lite rom later. i prefer to use custom roms than the original. Lots of OEM programs that i don't like. now i have around 70mb left on my main storage after installing sktools, total commander, sorgs ez input, icon changer and other utils.. Btw thanks for your reply.. Edited January 29, 2010 by cool_fhatz86
Guest stylus1828 Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 I did not flash secany's official ja5 rom, only PDA, CSC and Eboot. Gonna try to flash the official firm. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the tip. Hi stylus, I also tried to gain the extra 5M but with no succes. First I flashed secany's JA5 EBoot, restarted O2 and then flashed all JA5 parts. After reboot still 139M instead of 144M! Does anyone have a clue why we wouldn't get the extra 5M? > I just flashed secany's JA5 EBoot+PDA i8000KC23090A5_Lite from Khuanchai together and now I do have the extra 5M! Thanks for confirming Ryan... so this confirms it then, only the eboot needs to be flashed, but a hard reset is required for the additional 5MB to take effect. Thank you again Ryan.
Guest gezende Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I also tried SECANY ROM and I flashed all parts. After that, I tried also 4 different ROM's with the eboot from SECANY's ROM without any problems.
Guest stylus1828 Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 (edited) I used the hard reset function for 3 times and no result, still having 139.15 mb of ram ! ;) Edited February 3, 2010 by stylus1828
Guest Ryan Y Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I used the hard reset function for 3 times and no result, still having 139.15 mb of ram ! ;) Oh btw I am using KSTan's 6.5.5 JA1 previously.. so maybe you want to flash your pda part if you are having problems
Guest stylus1828 Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Success!! Flashed once again all JA5 parts, after that i hard reset my phone, and now i have 144.17 mb of RAM! ;) :D
Guest ZeroXtreme Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) Success!! Flashed once again all JA5 parts, after that i hard reset my phone, and now i have 144.17 mb of RAM! ;) :D So this negates my previous post, it seems that the way you get the extra 5MB of RAM from Secany's latest eboot takes effect on a case to case basis. Some have claimed just flashing the eboot and doing a hard reset give them the 5MB, some have to flash all 4 parts of Secany's ROM to get it, and some can just flash the eboot together with another custom PDA ROM to get the 5MB. Bottom line I suppose is to try each method from the easiest/fastest to the most time consuming one until the 5MB is gained, but it is confirmed that the 5MB is gained by flashing Secany's eboot using one of the methods mentioned above.
