Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows of an app (or a script) that i can map to one of the hardware buttons to switch the backlight on and off. I have if off by default because it saves battery and i don't need it indoors, but when i go out in the sun i cant see a thing! So i'd like a handy button i could press to switch on the backlight and be able to use the device as per usual.

If anyone knows were i could get something like this it would be much appreciated!

:P My thoughts exactly from december, that's when I asked for the exactly the same thing on samsung-omnia.org forum, and here's the result:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I08H7V2P

that's an exe app that changes registry value to switch bl on/off, just make a shortcut to it and place that shortcut in windows/start menu/programs, and map a button to it.

So when you go out and can't see shi*, just press your button and on the next tap (anywhere on the screen) bl switches on. If you press the button again (to switch the bl off) you'll need to lock your device, or wait untill it dimms the screen itself by timeout that is set in "GENERAL SETTINGS/POWER/BATTERY POWER/ turn off bl after x seconds".

I hope you understood everything.

I forgot to mention, when your battery power is less then 10% omnia automatically switches backlight off and doesn't let you turn it on until batt power is > 10% , so in that case running backlighttoggle.exe won't help it.

thanks for the great app. is it possible to simply toggle the backlight on and off? in your app, one still needs to lock/unlock the device to turn off the backlight.

Just to make sure everyone's clear on this: The O2 has no backlight. AMOLED displays generate light directly. So, unlike an LCD display that can be viewed (poorly) without a backlight on, when the AMOLED display is in an equivalent "off" state it is truly off -- there is no visual information available to see at all.

The dim "backlight off" state on the O2 is simply a low-brightness state simulating an LCD display with the backlight off. In any meaningful sense, it's still on, drawing power.

Since mortscript is very easy to write I took 10 minutes and wrote this:

install mortscript.cab

copy auto.mscr to "Program files" (on the device)

copy toggle.lnk to Windows\start menu\programs (on the device)

now you can assign a button to application "Toggle"

hope it works

Could you write a mscr that switch from 50% brightness to autobacklight (and viceversa)?

Thanks man!

You mean autobrightness?

That would be a script just to enable/disable autobrightness, because in both cases you need to have backlight activated. When you disable autobrigtness, brightness is back to whatever it was before auto.

Activate backlight manually and set brightness to chosen level and then use the script.

Yes, you're right! :) Thanks for the help, i'll give a try as soon as possible!

EDIT: i tried this script right now! It is very useful! Switching is very fast... I love you man! :D
