Major Problem after Nexus One Update

I followed these instructions as per advice from the forum :

Download the file (QR Code for file) and put it in SD card root folder(named update.zip)

Turn Phone off

Turn back on while holding down trackball

go to Bootloader

go to Recovery

at warning screen (/!\ with Android) press vol up and power

apply sdcard:update.zip

After booting my phone up, it became obvious something wasn't right.

The phone is now very slow, it gets stuck on the lock screen (need to remove battery to get out of it)

The update seems to have partially worked, pinch-to-zoom is present in the (very slow) web browser.

Maps won't open at all, it force closes.

Does anyone have any idea what's gone wrong here?

Should I repeat the process to try and resolve?

Can I return the phone to its previous state?

Thanks

OK, the confusion continues.

It seems another of the problems is that the phone gets stuck trying to identify the SD card.

I took the SD card out and now the phone seems to be back at full speed again, acting normally, pinch-to-zoom still present.

Maps still won't open though.

Utterly confused here!?

Right then, it seems the problem was that my SD card was corrupt. I've ran it again using another card and it's worked fine.

There's still one problem though, Google Maps won't open... force closes every time for some reason.

Any ideas?

Poor download?

I'd download it again and try from scratch.

You did do the hold the up button/power button etc?

Shouldn't really pull the battery if you can help it, thats the only real way to brick the phone.......

When you've done try soft resetting it a couple of times as well.
