Guest vorcigernix Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I'm not sure if I'm being particularily dim here, but I've used the kitchen for the first time for a build for my hero and I've not been able to find any instructions as to what to do with the zip file. Do I just need to rename the zip to update.zip and carry on as normal with previous ROM's? or have I missed something completely? thanks in advance. cheers Did you really read this thread? Btw..if you have to rename or not depends on you recovery image. Usually there is choose option in flash menu.
Guest jnwhiteh Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Good grief , I'm really on a role tonight, first I accidentally create a new thread, when I meant to reply, then I cut-n-past the reply to the wrong thread, and now this.. Apologies and mea culpa on all counts - I didn't mean to cause any offense or insinuate anything. I did see the known issues on the initial post, but what I really meant to emphasize/suggest was some sort of bug tracking (bugzilla etc) to capture the bugs/issues. - having said that I know just how frustrating it is when people constantly open/report duplicate issues. No worries, but I'm not really providing that level of support for this ROM. I'll continue to update and fix any major bugs that appear.. but there's very little I can do until HTC releases a 2.1 ROM or their kernel sources. From various comments I've been reading on the forum, I had come to the conclusion (wrongly it would appear) that some of src code is not available for this rom. I can't remember where exactly, but I thought someone mentioned that not all the src was available that you guys wouldn't be able to optimize for speed and efficiency until is was. Everything needed to build this ROM is on Github. That being said, without more from HTC.. all we can build is this ROM and can't make any major changes to it. Sorry to be a pain jnwhiteh, but would you be able to point me in the direction to these 'how-to' documents? I wouldn't really know what to search for in the first place ;). We have one on XDA for cupcake, For this ROM: 1. repo init -u git://github.com/cyanogen/android.git -b eclair 2. edit .repo/local_manifest.xml to: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <manifest> <!-- CHANGES REQUIRED TO USE COMMUNITY REPO --> <!-- Get rid of the qualcomm repos --> <remove-project name="platform/vendor/qcom/android-open" /> <remove-project name="platform/vendor/qcom/proprietary-open" /> <remove-project name="cyanogen/android_packages_apps_Launcher2" /> <project path="packages/apps/Launcher2" name="jnwhiteh/android_packages_apps_Launcher2" remote="github" revision="eclair" /> <project path="vendor/community" name="loxK/android_vendor_community" remote="github" revision="eclair-cyanogen" /> </manifest> 3. Put a base ROM (Kagu, Cyanogen, HERO21) into your AOSP directory 4. repo sync 5. pushd vendor/community/hero 6. Run unzip-files.sh with the name of the zip in your AOSP root (no path, just name) 7. popd 8. source build/envsetup.sh 9. lunch 15 (or whatever hero_community variant you want) 10. make otapackage
Guest Paul Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Kitchen downloads now include the MD5 hash of the file in the filename. If you're into that sort of thing. ;) P
Guest mousse04 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 jnwhiteh, there is something I don't understand. I'm using your ROM for 3 days and I've just made one charger plug for these 3 days. So I was the happier I could. Last night, I had to charge my Hero's battery and today after 4 hours of use (1 call of 2 mns, and 1 message) , my battery drains about 20% !!!!!!! I didn't change anything between yesterday and now but facts are : I find again battery drain link to the use of 2.1 ROM. Do you have any explanations for this? Thanks

Guest trstn Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 So. Let's say I do a nandroid backup, followed by a wipe, followed by installing cyanogen ROM. What happens if I miss MoDaCo custom ROM, can I just do a nandroid restore and come straight back to it as if I never left?

Guest masterpfa Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I got a FC when i use TouchInput. Any solutions? Maybe I was lucky, but I did not have those issues with this ROM and installing the HTC touch keyboard. Have you tried un-installing and re-installing the HTC_IME, also what method did you use to install? I have used Astro previously without any problems. Just another suggestion have you seen or tried the "Swype" keyboard, T-Mobile are including this with the MyTouch according to reports I read today.
Guest darkorbchoir Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Nice ROM jnwhiteh and Cyanogen, top banana seems quick enough for me, no force closes, (i read the what it can and cant do in the first post) i am happy so say that i got the Navigation working as well on my G2 Touch, looks really good with the satellite overlays my 2p's worth is that this is most likely the best so far and as soon as Paul gets hold of a 2.1 rom with Rosie included he can work his magic again to make it quicker like he did with MCR 3.1/3.2

(Very easy to use will take a little getting used too though!) Nice find masterpfa! I've been looking for a Swype version to play with for a while and this certainly works well ;)
Guest cooper104 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 i haven't read every page so far, so sorry if this is a duplicate, cooked last last night, so far so good no issues as such, very quick.. loving the simplicity (almost more then the sense, shock horror) only issue has been can't upgrade to v 4.0 Google Maps from the 3.4.0 that is bundled with ROM. Getting the error "Package file not signed correctly" has anyone got this error as well? I was using Kagudroid till yesterday, did a fresh install. Any ides?

I had a similar problem updating Maps - it would download but the install refused to run, but I didn't get the message you'd received. I got around it on my handset by going into Settings->Applications->Manage Applications, then uninstalling it. After that I could download and install from the Market without any error.

Guest Ponte Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Could someone please explain this to me. I installed this rom 2 days ago. Last night I used the phone untill it shut down due to low battery. When I hocked up the charger and started the phone I got loads of FC's. Cant remeber all of them but one was bla.bla.phone. I couldnt do anything. Mobile networking didnt work, couldnt make a call etc etc. Tried everything and finally I had to do a wipe and flash again. What happend? Why?
