Hi,

I have Samsung Omnia II, and if I want to use it as an GPS navigation following behaviour is done>

  • in iGO and TomTom searching for satelites takes ages!
  • if it find some green satelites, it usually lost signal very soon
  • in other apps searching for sat. takes ages as well

I tried to locate satelites outside, on hill near house, on ride by car, always the same.

Ive got following settings:

app COM: 7

hw COM: 9

speed: 4800 (already tried all other till 57600, no change)

GPS management: automatic (tried manually, no change)

allow XTRA server: yes (if no, no change) + I have actual data from XTRA server

allow SNTP server: yes (if no, no change)

I had HTC Touch Diamond 2, and there was not problem with signal, but with SOII there is:-(

Any solution ? I thing there should be some patch or setting, but didnt find any.

Thx for any help!

I have the slow start up thing happen as well and I just use Google Maps. I think the GPS gets turned off and when you start an application, you are also turning on the device GPS. My stand alone Nuvi has a bit of a boot up time as well. I don't know how to make the GPS just stay on and/or it it's worth the battery drain. Also I've hear TomTom doesn't work on anything other than iPhone in NA

I have the exact same problems. Takes around 20 minutes to lock max 2-3 satellites and then signal gets interrupted every 30-60 seconds.

I'm trying to find a solution to this as well, but its probably a hardware problem. Anyways, just wondering... do you use sktools clean feature alot? Do you soft reset alot?

I have had both HTC Diamond 2 and Omnia 2 during some days and I did some tests with the GPS reception of both phones.

Diamond 2 outperforms Omnia 2 by faaaaaaarrrrrrrr... it has a much much better GPS reception and satellite locking times, there is a huge difference in performance. I don't know what exactly is causing this but it is a pity because O2 makes you wait for minutes before you can start driving whether with Diamond 2 you turn on TT7 for example and are ready to go in 20 seconds.

I don't know if it is a software or hardware thing but... it is a flaw of this phone.

This isn't true! I got my i8000 working GPS very well.

1. try com4 instead of com7

2. use BeelineGPS to ensure gps receiver working normal

3. not XTRA nor A-GPS needed
