Guest jacobgong Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 never mind the iPhone, the Omnia II is the only phone I have seen that is unable to instantly render a full screen photo. I mean it takes like 2 seconds for a photo to be rendered into screen resolution, while all other phones do this instantly. I checked the Palm-Pre, the LG new Chocolate BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Storm. When you slide sideways to view the next photo, all of them have the next photo ready in full resolution, and there is absolutely no lag while sliding. Also Omnia II laggs so much while sliding the thumbnail view, to the point I can almost say it does not slide at all, it only jumps between pages. And none of other smartphones have this problem. The problem doesn't end here, The Omnia II will lag even on the lock screen, I mean how stupid is that? your phone cannot display the lockscreen for 2 seconds when you're trying to wake it up? sometimes it does not even wake up at all and I have to press the lock key twice. and sometimes I get to see the screen turns on with high brightness, the panels scrolls back to default, the screen dims and then it goes to the lockscreen. That is just a bit unacceptable. also the programs take a bit long to load, only the Palm Pre loads programs with a noticeable delay of all the phones I mentioned. But still faster than the Omnia II. Browsing the web with the Omnia II is a pain in the butt. it takes about like 1 minutes to render an average webpage, and it takes like 2 minutes to render a youtube page. and it takes 10 seconds to do any kind of zoom. plus you have to watch the rendering process and unfinished webpages. I'm not sure about other phones, but on the iPhone, it is perfectly smooth. you never see unfinished renderings, they are a lot faster, you zoom and slide with perfect smoothness and there are no blank areas. I mean it is almost as good as using a desktop computer with a mouse, maybe even more fun than that. lastly it is the auto rotation problem. I don't know what are the engineers in Samsung thinking when they put hardwares that do not work into this phone. We know windows has a built-in rotate screen function and Samsung is not using it. instead they have to program their own into some (not even all) of their own programs. Same goes for digital compass and GPS, why doesn't the phone come with a navigation program? and why doesn't it come with a compass program? navigation programs may be expensive but how hard is it to make a compass with an actual rotating needle, instead of saving an image for every possible rotation of it? I am disappointed that this phone with great hardware, does not have a single piece of properly working software to drive it. actually the touchscreen isn't very satisfactory, my cheap GPS unit has a hard screen without thin films, yet it looks to be resistive as I am able to use it even with thick gloves on. yesterday I accidentally scratched part of a Chinese character onto my screen because some kind of a super hard particle stuck onto the tip of my stylus. damm... If the HTC HD2 had an AMOLED screen, or if the Nexus One doesn't look like crap and came out earlier I would totally bought them. now I can only hope that WM7 will be totally smooth and awesome.
Guest jacobgong Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 oh, and I want to know why is it the DigitalFrame app never changes photo, it always shows the same photo unless you press the next button.
Guest Robtao Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Curious if you have the i920 and have disabled the Touch Wiz and Widgets? The phone should run a lot faster and smoother without them.
Guest xaznxplaya Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Actually, I have to kind of agree here. On my i8000 the performance isn't that great, TouchWiz and Widgets are disabled although, I'm using SPB Shell with the Expresso's theme. Fortunatly, JA5 is more stable than the ROM that came with Bell. The lockscreen does lag and sometimes even freeze the phone, I even noticed that adding a password slow down a little bit. I'm dissapointed about browsing the net as well, perhaps it's Opera but on my last device ( Instinct), browsing the net was way faster, I didn't have to worry about if I clicked the next page or not which is a pain with the Omnia II. I've never put too much attention to the pictures, though. Although, I still like the phone, its look, the way you can customize it, well let's see what happen, next.
Guest babyjosef17 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Booooooring! That is why there is the iphone. It was built for people like you who complain about anything and everything, and what something that can be spoon fed to you. Just sell your phone and get and the Iphone. That way you don't complain, even if yo have complains with that phone. You will not bother as you think you have the best ever phone created by GOD himself. Why all the fuzz about things other devices can do, you care to look at other peoples devices, worry that when someone looks at you browsing photo will laugh at you as it renders slowly. Then another reason for you to buy an iphone if your only concern is looking good. I'm just so irritated with this kind of people already. What is the point of making another worthless topic, on an i8000 thread, with drawbacks that all owners know already, and has set those aside as we have manage to maximize all the capabilities of the phone which has overshadowed it's simple drawback by a mile. If you can't deal with it, get another phone. If you can't afford the iphone, then no point of creating a new tread just to blow out your frustration. Waste of cyberspace.

Actually, there're reasons why people choose to not get an Iphone, not everyone wanna get the same phone as most of you friends has, the Iphone doesn't have an AMOLED screen, a camera that you can't even take pictures while going out at night ( sure bring your camera...), unless you jailbreak your Iphone, I don't see any excitements about getting one. People have rights to make part of their opinions, doesn't mean you don't like theirs that's worthless, since when trying to improve something is useless? You wouldn't even be typing in from of a screen if so.
Guest DunKnow Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) One Very BIG thing we have to remember is that IPHONE cannot MUTITASK! without mutitasking, your phone will be speedy. There will be only one application load on the cpu. If you have HTC HD2 ported rom, when u view through the photo gallery using HTC gallery, there is no lag at rendering at all, going from one photo to another. I believe Samsung made the photo gallery app to be friendly to the processor. Anyway the versions of the software from Omnia II is pretty at its early stage. Photo app in Omnia II is only Version 1.0. At least in the recent builds in find the touchwiz is faster, you might want to try L2 rom touchwiz and compare to JA5 touchwiz. I hope Samsung is slowly improving their softwares. There is only one sad thing i do have to agree when it comes to 3D graphics of games, Samsung Omnia II cannot cope that well. One word: Choppy I like my Omnia II, lots of love to it ;) Edited February 9, 2010 by DunKnow

Guest jacobgong Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) and May I ask what are these "desktop Standars" for muti-tasking. It has only started to die down because there are no longer any single-core PCs, not even the netbooks. The classic ad for dual core laptops is you can do homework, surf the net and listen to music at the same time, but actually you can do that even with a single-core Pentium IV. I'm not saying I have the final say on this, but what I would define as multitasking is to have the computer and/or the user to process multiple tasks at the same time. one easy example would be listening to music while surfing the web. but for example, making a phone call without loosing your unfinished e-mail is not multitasking because you are only making the phone call and anything about the email is not going through your head nor does it go through the phone's processor, it only stays in memories. While on my PC it is possible for me to watch a movie while chatting on MSN for example, it is unlikely we'll ever have a phone that will do the same due to the physical size of the screen. So by my standards, phones do not multitask and there is no point for it to do that. The only true multitask I use on my phone is playing music while I use some other apps, which I am not sure but I think any other phone will do. If they don't I'll be very disappointed and be happy that I have a Windows Mobile device. also it actually takes so long to switch between or lunch a program on the Omnia II, I'm better off with closing and lunching programs on the iPhone. But again, if you look at my previous posts, I have explained why I do not regret getting the Omnia II. By making this thread I am only saying that no phone on the planet is completely satisfactory to me as of today. Edited February 9, 2010 by jacobgong
Guest babyjosef17 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) pffffftttt... OK then. for jacobgong, no phones can multi task. If all your programs appear on the screen all ot one. That is the only time a phone can truly be called a multi tasking phone. Personally I could care less what you call it. One of my, "my phone is great"moments was when trying to buy a great toy for my precious baby girl. Listening to music, pocketed my phone, Found the toy, checked the price, grabbed my phone, opened calculator, check exchange rate, good price, opened opera, chat with my wife, went back to calc to check the price, went back to opera chat to tell the price, opened another opera tab for reviews of the toy, Light bulb in my head, paused music, opened google youtube app, searched for videos of the toy, went back to 1st opera tab and chat to my wife, went back to calc, went to counter, bought the toy, resume music, Me going home a happy man. If conveniently running each program same time and switching from each program without closing any of them is not "multi taksing" to you. Then so be it. All I know, being the person that I am, it's great to have that "feature" what ever you want to call it. It would have certainly stressed me out to have this closed, then open this, then close that, then open that thing I opened earlier again, then close that, then re-login to this chat thing, then close that and open this, then open that, oh s**t can;t open it while this is open, close this, close that, close again this, close that, open this, Aw screw this I'll but her chocolates instead! P.S. And if you plan to be a smarty *** and ask why I did not just call, I'm overseas, I have wifi on my phone, why not use it instead of spending lot of bucks calling. Edited February 9, 2010 by babyjosef17
Guest jacobgong Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) just because I do not call it multitasking does not mean I don't appreciate its existence. What I expect is it does not freeze for 2 seconds when I open task switcher, and it does not take 20 seconds to scroll through my opened programs because of the lag, and it does not freeze again when I select another program. I would also like to be able to use the camera without closing the music player. I have had cases like you described that required programs not loosing everything while I use another program. but scrolling through them in the task switcher is just such a pain because of the lag that it would be much better if it could be as smooth as the Palm Pre. this feature has been around since like Windows 3.1 so it kind of proves how Multitasking is not a good description for the purpose of multi-core PCs. nor does it describe windows mobile. In fact I am guessing Windows supports it only because they didn't care if your other applications will lag very badly. Where as Steve Jobs would not tolerate the slightest lag.(not that I like him though, I don't) Edited February 9, 2010 by jacobgong

Guest babyjosef17 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 @jacobgong Which takes me back to my first point. If you don't like it, den sell it(cuz obviously you can't deal with it) and get a new phone. I suggest iphone because I find it so AMAZING that 2 SECONDS, 20 SECONDS, is a very big deal for you and manged to make a seperate topic just because of that, and did not even bother to SEARCH the forums for a topic that is related (and there are tons I assure you) and share your thoughts there! Get another phone other than iphone for all I care. Just stomp complaining about something that you know will not be solved and is already how the manufacturer made it. Why Make a new post about it!? We all know about it, he have the same phone. Why make a 600 WORD post just about it!? OMG! You're infections! Now even I am counting! Sure sure you have every right to post your complains, just now I also posted my complains. My complains about users like you. lol "The more I look at other phones, the more bothering is the graphics" I don't about you but I don't have the time to bother what people beside me are doing on their phone. I'm busy drooling over the AMAZINGLY CLEAR AND VIVID H264 rip of a 1080p video of Sexy Korean K-pop Girls dancing on my Gt-i8000 in auto performance with no Lag and auto brightness (which inside the train is only 10%)
Guest elementalfusion Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 you might want to try resco photo viewer 7, it's rather speedy when handling photos ;)
Guest Smille123 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 +1 Yes jacobgong, please sell your phone and spam iphone-forums!
Guest daskalos Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) Well I just read all the topics you posted namely: 1. Still cannot get Quickmark to work 2. Quickmark cannot be opened quickmark doesn't start 3. Oh no my time panel is frozen again....... 4. My phone is nice, but not as nice as I expcted. -just some random thoughts 5. \The time panel froze solid......windows defult today screen 6. All buttons dead? known to be software problem 7. Ops... I think i beoke my system...... 8. GPS was working but not any more? 9. I have no idea why it was working to start with i 10. Themes do nothing on origional ROM? 11. How hard is the back cover? 12. GPS navigation software with built-in map? Well with just a simple glance at all your post, you seem to complain everything that is happening to your phone or things that you notice isn't up your stantards or isn't right... But I as read your posts I realized that some of your concerns was caused by, no other one but you... Why? Let me comment of some of your topics... Post No.1 and 2. About QuickMark - As far as I know there Quickmark still doesn't support Omnia 2 API camera, though Quickmark for Omnia Runs with O2 (Acer version works too but camera doesn't launch). The thing you must remember in installing apps ('cause as you said you are still a newbie) is application compatibility with the O2 software. The fact is, not all Windows Mobile application will work or run in any Windows Mobile phone. Installing apps without knowing it's compatibility can really screw up your device. You must check for compatibility. And with quickmark, there's no O2 support yet. So don't complain that it doesn't work 'cause if you bother to check quickmark website, you will see there's really no Omnia II support yet. P.S. if your concern isn't unanswered, double posting will not really help, it will just annoy people...just update your original post Posts 3. Oh no my time panel is frozen again....... 5. \The time panel froze solid......windows defult today screen 6. All buttons dead? known to be software problem 7. Ops... I think i beoke my system - As I finished reading these posts, the answer why these thing happens to your phone is obviously written on your posts: You're installing different installation files without even knowing if it's compatible with Omnia II or not. You were clearly aware, based on your posts, that those files you installed adds up/replace files on your system and even writing or replacing some registry entries. Are you aware that editing registry entries could really do some benefits, but also can harm your system, which you were doing by installing some of your cabs. For example, what is Echina No.5 anyway? Have you checked if it's compatible with Ominia II? If it's meant only for WM2003,WM5,WM6,WM6.1 or WM6.5 only? If it's for WVGA screens? If it needs other frameworks, have some bugs/issues, the latest build...And what did you meant by trying to add "asian languange support", my bet is you just installed couple of files that said tpo add "asian language support"... The answer is clear, you just installed those apps without even looking for it's compatibility. You are trying to break your device unintentionally, and if I'm you're phone, I would really need a hard reset from all the registry and files you are throwing in my system that is making me sick...Again before installing a Windows Mobile app, you must really know information about them, their issues and compatibilities, on what directory they will be installed, etc. before you break your device by installing something. 10. Themes do nothing on origional ROM? I quote what you posted: they only change some colors and the bar on the top and bottom, but non of those fancy things appear on the desktop like the HTC style clock and calenders? they also change the background color but not the text so some times you get white text on white background? You posted this with no one responding. Why? 'Cause it is absurd. Changing themes in O2 will not make HTC Style Clock or calenders magically pop out, because it's the HTC Device' own UI, as you don't expect to see Samsung Touchwiz pops out if you change themes in an HTC device. All phones have their own User Interfaces that are designed for themselves, though by some help of program hackers, can port them with each other. Post no. 11. How hard is the back cover? -Well you're asking for a hardness scale. Come on. All parts of a mobile phone are prone to scratch. Some may scratch easily than others, but eventually, it will have a scratch as long as you touch it, put it in a surface, drop it, run your sharp nails to it etc. It really depends on how you take care and handle your device. You said you removed your screen protector because it makes it "murky", so don't expect it will be scratch free after some times of use. - Im not saying this is an absurd post but I'm not saying it is really helpful to anyone. How hard is the back cover? Come On. By barely looking at it and holding it, it's plastic that easily breaks. This will be a good topic if O2 was advertised and made with a hard metal alloy or the screen made with sapphire glass, but really posting how hard is the back cover as a topic in an obviously plastic, scratch-able device, in my opinion, is absurd. A better topic would be "how to protect the screen and back cover", "accessories to protect O2", "My O2 was scratched, any solutions?" etc. Post no. 12. GPS navigation software with built-in map? Well this question has been asked a thousand times since smartphones came out with a built-in GPS receiver. The thing was you are not really aware about apps like TomTom,IGo8,Papago,Garmin,Mapking etc. that will let you navigate without the phone bills. Just google it man or check other forums. In summary, you are getting issues because of your own fault. It seems like your lazy enough to read application compatibilities, search posts, search the internet, read about Windows Mobile Operating System, visit other forums etc. Lazy enough that you double post for an unanswered concern of yours... You just do what you do best, to blah blah blah and blame the phone for everything issues it's screaming, which some, are your fault. And now, this post of yours,"Replying to the more i look at other phones, the more bothering is the graphics"...You know what is more bothering? Well it's someone that has no initiative, that is never contented, that is pessimistic and never bothers to read and research. I'm not saying it's you, but I think you're being a little bit someone like that...And It goes all to those people who blame their device faulty because of their ignorance. I have some advice for you: 1. Read and Research. Since you're new with Windows Mobile, pls. take time to read about it's reviews and basics, especially if you're gonna modify it's system by trying to install your cabs. Read something about OS versions, even OS Issues, Registry Editing, application info files etc. There are video articles too to help you. Before posting a question, you can first search it up if it already exists with a corresponding answer, to avoid double posts. Gather all information as you can, for you to be ready for Windows Mobile or other OS'... I suggest even reading Omnia II's manual, 'cause apparently you really don't know deeper info about the unit too... 2. If you have done the first advice and still being plagued by the "issues" you are facing, bothered that some OS might be faster and more friendly that O2, and realized that you are not really happy with O2 seem to favor another device, Pls. save us some web space, throw away O2 and get that device that suits your expectation and needs and will spoon-feed you in any ways...This forums will benefit from helpful discussions on how to bring out more out of the device than post about cluttering arguments and personal dis-satisfactions... Well all i wrote were just my opinions ;) Edited February 9, 2010 by daskalos
