Guest dwallersv Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 As mentioned in a bunch of threads, disabling Microsoft Today will reclaim between 5-10MB of RAM, giving more breathing room to run several apps at once. However, there's lots of good software that runs as Today Plugins, so this may not be a simple choice for people. If you don't use Today as your main GUI/shell, instead use a third party shell, you can gain this memory advantage and still use Today plugins by installing Second Today. The useful feature of ST is that unlike Today it can be loaded and run, and then quit, returning system resources. Using the ST settings panel, I simply configured it to show a "Quit" softkey when running that invokes the "Stoday Quit.exe" program that is installed with ST. So, you don't need to give up your favorite Today plugins to reclaim that precious RAM that Today consumes for things you rarely use, but still need.
