I dont suppose anyone can convert this to work with an AOSP rom could they? Or maybe give instructions on how to. The bootanimation.zip files are different on AOSP. "didn't work" is not the error message you got. other than that you were right, it is applied via recovery menu, if you are using a 1.5 rom (mcr) then it should work.
