Verizon i920 to Nexus One

There are things I really like about my Omnia II - especially swype, but I'm getting tired of Windows Mobile slow updates. I've had a Treo700w, Omnia i910, and this Omnia II i920 but Palm and Samsung have taken a long time to give us updates and bug fixes. I know some of it has to do with Verizon, but Android seems to update faster.

Just interested in opinions about the Nexus One - I don't care for the DROIOIOIOID...

I'm sure it has, but some will be worked out by the time Verizon gets it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Omnia II better than anything now available, I just don't like the interface(s) and haven't found a third-party one that I like better. I also like quick bug fixes although it remains to be seen if Android is that much better than WinMo.

I was thinking of getting a nexus One and selling my Omnia II, but I think I will hold out for the Samsung Galaxy II. It's the Samsung AMOLED display that I have come to really like...

But why specifically the Nexus One? There's the Moto Droid, the Moto Devour, the HTC Eris, and we've already seen photos of the HTC Incredible for VZW.

I was asking opinions of the Nexus One and how it might compare to the Omnia 2 since I haven't seen one yet.

I have played with the Moto Droid and the Eris and didn't think either could hold a candle to the Omnia II (at least for me). The Devour looks like a stripped down Droid. Haven't seen the Incredible (I'll have to look into it).

I played with my friend's HTC Hero and another HTC Magic/Sapphire, and I love the fluidity and speed of the interface of the Android platform, but the main thing is it is open source, and Google already released the source code for the 2.1 version plus they have the SDK for download, so the Android platform is more open to customizations and tweaking which is half of the fun of having a pda-phone.

But as I mentioned I love the AMOLED display of samsung devices, they make the best displays, in my opinion at least. I suppose I considered the Nexus One since it has great specs in terms of RAM/ROM size and the display is also WVGA and it is AMOLED. When you compare the AMOLED display to a transflective LCD, you really see the difference in quality and clarity. Also AMOLED uses 25% or so less power than transflective LCD displays.

I suppose I will wait until mid-year to see what Samsung Android platforms come out with the Samsung AMOLED and nicer CPU and RAM specs.

Ok.... I swallow my comments earlier, although I will still standby for the Samsung Android platforms, but I jumped the gun and got myself a Nexus One, and I get it an an hour or two!!!!

What I did was get a dirt cheap second hand T-Mobile G1, its the primary development phone for android, to really play with it, root it, change ROMs, etc., to see if it is just the hype getting me excited or if it is really the real deal. As I expected its way fun to play with, there are so many things you can do on the platform, and so much free software on the market that even rivals the iPhone store.

Now I already have a buyer for my G1, at cost, so no skin off my back. :D

But it is also expensive to have two high end phones, so I might just sell my O2... :lol: It was fun having though, but not as fun as the Android platform. I have been on windows mobile since the Xda I (Wallaby), and there was really no other alternative at the time except for Palm and Symbian, which are even less customizable than WM. I have also seen the demo of WM7 and am not that impressed. But hey! I can always get another WM device later on right :D

HTC will be doing a N1 with Sense UI which should fix the N1 bugs (but I am not a fan of HTC who only seem able to do good body work!).

Oh man!!!! This beast is fast!!! and its got so much RAM that I dont have to close anything, or nothing auto-closes or auto terminates while running multiple programs simultaneously. I havent even put swap on it yet. I already got it rooted and running the latest leaked official radio and official ROM. The input never lags when typing and the screen orientation change is almost instantaneous!

I am not having problems that were mentioned in other forums such as the 3G connection. The AMOLED is also very nice, although the Omnia's is still superior, its brighter and has crisper colors, but you will not notice the difference anymore as long as they are not compare side by side.

Its like a hybrid of the iPhone and Windows Mobile, in the sense of it has the iPhone's interface speed which is very fluid and smooth and that it has the customizability and multi-tasking of Windows Mobile. In fact it is even more customizable.

I am not regretting my choice of getting a Nexus at all. :D Oh, and did I mention its fast!?!?
