I've been googling for some time about this but I've still found no accurate solution.

When I first got my Omnia 2 (i8000 in Spain, with Telefónica Movistar as my phone carrier) Internet Sharing worked like a charm. It was fast and reliable with speed tests showing around 256 KB/s at worst.

Then one day Internet Sharing started working like crap. As in 9 KB/s maximum speed, even though I do have a 3G+ connection available.

Funnily enough it looked like my Activesync connection was crippled as well: it would take much longer than usual to read the phone's folders on Windows Explorer.

I thought those two incidents would be related, so I looked at my phone's memory, which happened to be at around 7 MB left (that's when I realized that the stupid Marketplace refuses to install apps in the 8GB storage so my memory filled up quickly with just a couple of apps). I uninstalled a few things and left the phone memory at around 15 MB left. That seemed to work and both Activesync and Internet Sharing were working fast again. At least for that day.

The following day I had a slow connection again.

I thought maybe the USB was faulty, so I tried with a bluetooth PAN connection. Still the same.

I decided that I would wait until I first flashed another ROM to see if maybe that was the problem.

Well, yesterday I flashed for the first time with Secany's JA5 ROM (which, by the way, runs wonderfully) but... I'm still getting the same slow Internet Sharing speeds.

I should mention that my dad has an Omnia 2 as well (we got them at the same time) and his DOES get faster internet access at the same spot, same carrier.

Has anybody experienced this problem with the Omnia 2 or any Windows Mobile phone for that matter?

Any help is appreciated ;)

Thanks!

EDIT: I thought I'd add that using Opera Browser on the Omnia 2 and browsing Mobilespeedtest I can as much as 700 kbps when running the 500KB test. When I run the same test on the PC through Internet Sharing, the most I can get is 59 kbps.

Sorry for doubleposting, but I consider this much more than what an edit would be worth.

After a few hours trying lots of different things to solve my problem, I found out a few things.

In the configuration menu, there's one option called "Browser connection" (it may be different in English, since I'm translating literally from a Spanish language ROM).

In this menu I can choose from the following options: Internet, WAP, Work and Secure WAP.

When the option WAP is selected, both Opera and Internet Explorer achieve high speeds on mobile speed test sites (around 700 kbps).

When the option Internet is selected, both Opera and Internet Explorer achieve REALLY LOW speeds on the same tests (around 50 kbps).

HOWEVER, most applications like Youtube, Panoramic moTweets and such will only go online if Internet is selected.

But when Internet is selected, they run really slow (Youtube videos for example load slowly).

Now, how does this relate to my Internet Sharing problem?

Apparently, whenever I connect my phone to the laptop through Internet Sharing, the phone is using the Internet setting, making my connection run slowly (getting again around 50 kbps in the very same tests). And this happens no matter what option I've chosen: WAP or Internet.

Also apparently I have two data connections on the phone at the same time.

One is wap.movistar.es and the other one is movistar.es.

Whenever I connect to an online application, both connections start one after the other.

Now, with all this data does anyone have any idea of what the heck is going on here?

Why can't I use the fast internet connection with the apps and on my PC??

I always found the net very slow on the Omnia II never bothered doing a test though, what website did you use the test? I tried mobiletestspeedtest.com and reaches 33kbps/sec which is barely faster than dial up and way far from HSDPA

Which website did you try? I just tried mobile test speed and reached barely 78 and 128kb/sec..

On US verizon, I get a consistent 70KB connection (700 kb). 256KB seems kinda high? I thought ~100KB was about the upper limit of 3G tech. 9KB is definitely low and would be typical of a non-3G connection. There's really no good mobile speed tests site. They are completely unreliable. Use speedtest.net or something through a shared connection on your computer to get a more realistic idea of your throughput.

Look each configuration at network > more > conections ...

Possibly there are diferent configurations for internet/wap/etc and something like a proxy in the middle.

That's why several access speeds appear.
