Guest Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) Hi guys, As topic, my new I8000L goes one hour forward after connecting it to the computer and ActiveSync kicking in. My regional settings in my PC are correct, DST is disabled, but still when connecting the phone, the time in it goes 1 hour in the future! Also in the Windows default today screen, in the clock, I see under it "London, Dublin", but in the clock app is set "Buenos Aires"!!! Where is this London, Dublin coming from? And important thing: in the world clock, I get a little "sun" icon (it seems) in my time. Is this the DST icon? Where do I manually disable this in WM 6.5? I just hard resetted and it's still the same. Currently running stock WM 6.5 ROM I8000NXXIL1. Please, help me out guys. Thanks. :D EDIT: I just tried setting the date to april. The sun icon went away, probably because DST usually lasts until march. But still, when connected to the computer back, it goes an hour forward! Plus, it got the correct day back! And I also tried disabling the "Automatic update time..." option, but it's still the same! I can't find ANYTHING in Google related to WM and DST! Come on, what's going on in here??? Guest awarner (MVP) Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 What else have you got installed for example SPM mobileshell? With other applications installed you can access the core WM settings, what you have is actually two clock applications. One is the Samsung app and the other is the standard WM app they normally talk to each other as such but it seems that for some reason you may have accidently altered these time settings by mistake at some point.

Thanks for your kindly answer Warner! I have nothing at all installed: I hard reset, set the time in the initial setup screen, connect to the computer and ta-da, the hour skips forward! It's really driving me nuts! EDIT: Also, the weirdest thing is what I wrote above: why, out of the box, and even when I have set only 1 time (Buenos Aires), in the Today screen (Windows Default), in the clock panel says "London, Dublin"??? Guest Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Any clues guys? I really can't begin to use the phone until this is solved because everything is off by an hour, plus I can't even trust what time it is by looking at the phone!
Guest Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Fixed the "London, Dublin" thanks to this post!: here Still, one hour goes forward everytime I sync! I'm pretty sure that it's because the sun icon that appears there. How can I edit the DST in Windows Mobile? Some registry key?
Guest Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 OK, this is the last time I bother you. A simple question: Can DST be disabled in the Windows Mobile Phone? Yes, No, or Don't Know?
Guest Miguel Singson Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 ive never encountered this problem... but maybe you can turn off the auto time update in your computer. it seems to me that your computer changes the time on your phone eveytime you sync. check if activesync has an option so that it doesnt update the time on your phone
Guest Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks but ActiveSync doesn't have any related option, plus the time update of the PC doesn't have anything to do with this. The issue is 100% DST related. Here's why: - When picking another GMT -3 zone with no DST (and no "Sun" icon), it works OK after connected to ActiveSync - When picking my time zone but putting the date in a future month (where DST usually doesn't apply), I don't get the Sun icon and it works OK! Time is still OK after syncing So, the issue really is that WM thinks I'm in DST and it somehow updates the hour 1 hour forward after connecting to the computer. I need to know how to disable DST for my location in WM or maybe edit the DST tables (something a lá "tzedit.exe" for Windows desktop)
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 I can only suggest you use another -3 time zone as it appears to be a bug in the OS. If it is a definite bug in the OS then it is unlikely to be fixed by a ROM update.
Guest Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Damn it, I was afraid of that :D Wouldn't it be possible to find out where the DST is defined in WM? Why does it then, from october to march, marks my region as DST enabled? Where is that, is it hardcoded in the OS or what? Also, we been having DST here only in the last two years; before it wasn't implemented. I can't accept that Microsoft hardcoded some dates in the regions for it to be enabled. What if the DST was cancelled by the goverment? Then the device wouldn't work correctly? It has to be configured somewhere.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 A good friend gave me this link explaining the problem, it's not quite a bug as such and should be sorted by itself in the next few weeks. http://blogs.technet.com/latam/archive/201...0-fallback.aspx
Guest Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Thanks for the link Warner, very interesting! Although it's for Windows (desktop), that's exactly what's going in here. But instead of being "a week off", the WHOLE DST was cancelled by the goverment! So that would leave me like 6? months with a wrong time setting! Also, I'm not in Brazil (I'm in Argentina) and I refuse to believe that there's ANYTHING I can do to fix this, maybe now it doesn't matter since I was manually checking and, the "sun icon" (DST) dissapears on March 15, so it's only a couple of weeks now. But what will happen later this year, if DST is cancelled again? I've checked and WM still marks as DST the year 2011, so probably this is applied "forever". Man... I'm really pissed off this, I don't know if I'm crazy or what but how come that in a so open customizable OS where you can patch the kernel, install zillions of UIs and thousands of registry hacks to tune every little detail, something as big as this get lost in the crowd and I end like the only bastard who can't keep track of any time related task (SMS; meetings, mails, alarms, EVERYTHING) in his own region... :D
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 The problem is the governments changing the DST with no real warning, if it is cancelled again, what happens will depend in the warning given to MS etc.
Guest Qualquer coisa Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 It's really, REALLY annoying... I live in Brazil and i have the same problem... DST will end in sunday... until then, 1 hour "wrong time"...
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 There may be a setting in the registry but I have not looked into it to confirmm this may be a manual way to fix it. The same applies to the PC.
Guest Fer.ar Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Hello to resolve that problem, open the app Clock (Reloj) and go to menu, options and disable the automatic time zone actualization.
Guest Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 No funciona, es lo primero que intenté! It doesn't work, was the first thing I've tried!
Guest fortify Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 No funciona, es lo primero que intenté! It doesn't work, was the first thing I've tried! I have the same issue with the daylight savings time. I am in Cayman and we don't recognize daylight savings time here. At least in our desktop windows under the time there is an option to de-select daylight savings time. They should have also also made an option to uncheck 'apply daylight savings time'. fortify
Guest Darius P. Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Phone must be connected: microsoft ActyveSync > tools > options > settings> uncheck - Synchronize Pocket PC.... solved! Darenas
