any way of getting t9 to be enabled by default?

mostly it's opera (could be the rest of the OS (6.1))

I tap to activate a text box, and then it needs to be switched to t9 (HTC phone pad is what I use)

if focus is lost on a text box, then when focus is back again, t9 has been switched off automatically.

Is there a way of getting t9 to stay on all the time?

Ideally I'd like it to be always active with all applications and the OS
