Guest jwhipple Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 The stock desk clock is already a kitchen option! :) P Oooooh now you're tempting me LOL - I may just subscribe to help fund your work, definitely worth every penny!

Guest Paul Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Grab your Titanium licence from the 'Plus Lounge' on the forum index. P
Guest karnovaran Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) Well known fact the android facebook app sucks. Do you have android app permissions set at facebook?(The actual website on the desktop)? The reason the friendster facebook works is because htc is using their own facebookapp and not the default facebook app on the desire rom (yes, there's two facebook apps on this rom). 1. The Android Facebook app syncs just fine with contacts on the stock ROM. I had no problems there. 2. I know HTC is using their own and I know there are two apps on the Desire ROM. The only fully working sync (gets everyone and doesn't hang) I have found for the Desire ROM is using Desire contacts + HTC Facebook with Friendstream installed. Trying to sync regular Facebook with Android contacts would not work on this ROM (as it does on Stock), nor would HTC Facebook with Desire contacts without Friendstream baked in. You may say 'duh', but Android contacts is an option in the Kitchen without any caveat that the Facebook app sync would not work as it has proven to work on the stock ROM. Similarly, Friendstream is removable without a caveat that it may affect HTC Facebook sync. This is important for those of us that prefer Android contacts and don't use Friendstream. If we want proper Facebook sync, we have to go with Desire contacts and leave Friendstream in the bake. By the way, I'm not complaining at all... just sharing what I learned from trial and error. Guest floydianslip7 Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Wow thanks to all the people smarter than me that were able to do all this stuff! I have the A14 ROM running on my nexus one, and I am loving it, but I had a question I couldn't find through the forum search function. If its already been answered - sorry for being redundant: - Is there a way to install the A15 and any subsequent update ROM's onto the phone without losing the settings? It may be an obvious no, but I thought I'd ask. I spent about an hour going through all my contacts using HTC's awesome contact manager (associating multiple google and facebook contacts together, making groups, etc). I think these links and associations are stored on the phone locally, so I'm worried that they'll be wiped with a new ROM install. Anyone know if this is true? - Also, and again, I looked through search and couldn't find this one either: For the stock alpha download links provided here, is the wired/wireless tethering option available? Or is that only something for paid members to the site via the kitchen? In my settings on the N1 I see internet sharing, but its grayed out and I can't get access to it. Is there no other way to tether? I for whatever reason cannot get PDANet Bluetooth to work - well more specifically I can't get my mac to pair with the N1 at all. Any insights appreciated and thanks again to all that got this working.
Guest nike.stars Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 @Paul could you tell me how to use A2SD in the kitchen option properly? i've done full reflash, wipe and also with clean sdcard with ext2 partition + 64mb swap but still couldn't figure it out how to make it work i try to install some apps and it still made my internal storage decrease, which is indication that apps2sd aren't working properly thanks before
Guest LilRedzMD Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Menu -> Wallpaper -> Select "Photos". You will find "HTC Sense" as one of the wallpaper to select. Similar to the location where you find Nexus One touch sensitive wallpaper. I followed you exact steps and there is no such findings of any type of SENSE live wallpaper...(please help)
Guest PhonePersona Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Yeah, that problem ISN'T sorted yet, doh! P LMAO :)
Guest PhonePersona Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 I followed you exact steps and there is no such findings of any type of SENSE live wallpaper...(please help) You can't have installed Alpha 15 and it not be there. I think you need to take a step back and look again. Not hard...but just look. You should see ; Galaxy, Grass and then, depending on if you have Market/Custom Live Wallpapers installed, you should also see 'HTC Sense', right before Magic Smoke.

To answer you question about backing up your data, there's a number of solutions but some are based on how technically inclined you are. 1. Quickest way would be to do a nandroid backup and then use Fastboot to flash the 'DATA.IMG' file over to your phone after you've done the new ROM install. If you don't know what Fastboot is, I suggest you read up on it and decide how comfortable you feel going that route. 2. Titanium BackUp is an awesome tool that backs up not only your applications, but your custom settings as well. So as long as your backups are thorough and complete, doing a restore after a ROM install should get you to where you wanna be. Be advised though: I've had varying degrees of success and failure using this application for restores. 3. MyBackup Pro will back up all your applications and some of your data/settings, but not all of them. These are the three tools I use and I tend to mix and match them for optimal results based on the type and version of the ROM I'm installing. Remember to ALWAYS do a backup before trying anything funny. This way, you'll always have a fallback option in case things go awry. Good luck :) Edited March 17, 2010 by PhonePersona
Guest cortez Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 I followed you exact steps and there is no such findings of any type of SENSE live wallpaper...(please help)i recall Paul had to add the Sense LWP to Alpha 15 after it's initial release. it's possible you're using the version that doesn't include it... did you download Alpha 15 within the last 24-36 hours?
Guest PhonePersona Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) I'm not sure if this is the perfect thread for this post, but I've solely been using the Desire ROM and have forsaken all others :) since Alpha 10 was released. Also, this is not a complaint. I fully realize we’re in ‘Alpha mode’ here. I’d just like to get some consensus on this notion, either by agreement or dissent. Folks, I have some MAJOR concerns with battery life. I tend to get about 6-8 hours worth of battery life. I’m also fairly sure that the stock ROM lasted about 2-3x as long. In the interest of full disclosure, from Mon-Fri I work in a building with really bad cellular reception which definitely adds to my battery drain, however I've noticed that my battery life doesn't fare much better even when I'm at home, where my signal usually bounces between ‘3G’ and ‘H’ all the time. I’m currently trying an experiment that leads me to believe the battery stealing culprit is the radio. I turned off my mobile internet when I got into work this morning and after about 4 hours of being unplugged; my battery is still at 77%. Typically it would be at around 45-55% by now. Now I understand that mobile data will always consume power, but typically not as much as I’ve seen here. I certainly wasn’t getting this level of battery depletion on my HTC Hero. On my G1, sure…but everyone knows that the G1 battery in all its 1100mah glory is a hot buttery-toasted piece of crap! But I digress ;) I also wonder if the final release of the Desire ROM will or will not be less taxing on the battery life. I have some theories about why this is occurring, but I wanted to reach out to this community of ‘mobile geniuses’ to ask if you’ve seen similar results with your ROM or not. And if you have, what steps, if any, have you taken to rectify the problem? Edited March 17, 2010 by PhonePersona

And if you have, what steps, if any, have you taken to rectify the problem? I will say.. That I have done Mulitiple tests as well on this and would like to further help you persona and input on this matter too.. K, the main issue i saw was this.. I shut off Sync on News and Stocks of Course.. I then went and toned down the apps that need refresh, or a constant stream to the bare minimum.. We all the option to refresh "ourselves" we tend to forget that.. LOL. After, I turn the weather refresh to about 6-12 hours, which ever you see fit use it, its like nothing ever changed.. Uncheck automatically download data, (geolocation) and your good there.. Weather will refresh on the time specified or when you prees the moon, rain, sun, you know.. then, re-arrange the refresh on Twidroid to 4-8 Hrs.. Since twitter is used heavy by us, well i just joined, but discovered the drain pattern, it keeps refreshing only when we use it, hence it doesnt have to check for delivery or reply.. you send it stops. you recieve it stops.. After, if you just want full stop and go, disable background data.. For the light, for battery, shut off auto, then use the power toggle one to the first tap.. thats about 15-23% of brightness. which works well. Off is good but, sometimes too dark. Especially outside you need full brightness on.. LOL.. Disable the notification colors if you feel you don't want to use them. that helps too.. less light, current, and processing its doing, no matter how minute.. Gps you could shut off if your not using it also, this helps A LOT if you are not using the device for traveling.. It doesn't have to keep a constant ping between it and satellites. Well, I hope more people can add to this and help.. I do too believe that this ROM needs a little power management.. I think that PAUL loves power saving the most too.. But, all do remember that no matter what Paul does, try's and builds, most if not all of what I stated and the Previous post stated will GUARANTEE at least a 35%-55% increase in battery life.. All without sacrificing your feel, groove, and most of all performance of OUR Nexus, Wait should I say Desire.. "I’m currently trying an experiment that leads me to believe the battery stealing culprit is the radio. I turned off my mobile internet when I got into work this morning and after about 4 hours of being unplugged; my battery is still at 77%. Typically it would be at around 45-55% by now." < Has nothing to do with the radio, thus the explanation i made on what depends on THAT connection such as apps within the device.. So when you switched it off. You did the brute form or what I explained.. That of course will defiantly.. defiantly work.. LOL. Modaco Android.. Who betta than US? We should be the Android Community.. Right? LOL.. "I'm not sure if this is the perfect thread for this post, but I've solely been using the Desire ROM and have forsaken all others :P since Alpha 10 was released." > > > By the way.. A5 is when you should have stayed.. Its been fun.. A1 was even great forget about the video driver and graphic glitches.. Rememeber the "Other PORT on XDA of "2.1 Hero" it dint see to "KxLixCk" did it?
Guest karnovaran Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) PP, What's your Up time vs. Wake time? (found in Settings > About Phone > Battery) If your phone isn't sleeping, that will definitely drain the battery. Currently my wake time is about 20% of my up time. When I had those Facebook sync issues, my wake time was 100% of my up time. Edited March 17, 2010 by karnovaran
Guest cortez Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 @PhonePersona - the radio can be a drain if it's trying to hold on to a 3G signal, etc. what are your email settings? push? every 30 minutes? are you using news readers? facebook? all this stuff will access the internet over the course of a day. for comparison, i have 2 email accounts, both checking every thirty minutes and with about 20-30 minutes of calls and 10-20 text messages i can go 10-14 hours before i get into the "danger-zone". this past weekend, over a 10 hr period, i had about 20 emails, no texts, 8 minutes of calls and used GMaps Navigation for about 15 minutes and still had 70% of battery available, i was really surprised. i should also mention that this was using a new OEM battery i ordered as a spare. i'm not using bluetooth, GPS is disabled, no wifi (unless absolutely necessary), weather is set to update every 3hrs, and i've removed facebook, twitter, footprints and the stock app.

However my background data is set to sync at anytime and I have auto-sync enabled and yes, at the office my phone struggles to find a 3G signal like mo man’s business (but only in this building however). I guess I can disable autosync to see what it buys me, but what about the background data? Exactly which apps is ‘background data’ referencing? EDIT - I just reread that part in the manual. 'Background' data stops the phone recieving push gmail messages until you send an email or 'refresh' manually from the application. Same thing for the Calendar. Edited March 17, 2010 by PhonePersona
Guest polo79 Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 well my subscription status is back to "ad free" and i have the kitchen again so i am stoked! thanks paul! i just wanted to ask as well, does anyone know if we can theme the htc_ime keyboard with metamorph and the themes on xda? i tried with alpha 14 and when i themed the kb it actually deleted htc_ime off of my phone somehow. but i was thinking maybe it was because it wasn't the newest version of the kb. anybody have luck with a themed kb? thanks!

Guest WhiteHartMart Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Still loving this but seem to have a problem with the HTC IME since baking a ROM using Alpha 15. If I start typing, absolutely no text appears in the text entry box although the key presses are highlighted. Any ideas what could cause this as I've had to go back to the Android keyboard for the time being.
Guest FLT Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Bummer my android.mms (which is for SMS strangely :)) keeps crashing when I boot. Coming from stock Nexus and wiped everything.. Ahwell back to stock then I suppose ;)
