Guest Raspster Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Guys, I know this is probably a NOOB question but any reason why my space keeps getting depleted? I have not put any new apps in a few days and I've watched my RAM go from 110mb with my programs installed drop now to 85mb. I know some of this may be cache but does it ever get to a point where it stops? FYI, i've deleted my browser cache and it did not give me any RAM back. Still running the A17.
Guest eddiec10 Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Possibly. You should only restore the missing apps only. The safest way is don't use batch restore & restore each apps you need one by one. Cheers - I'll try again and do an individual app only restore as you suggest.
Guest OMEGA46 Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Im an on A18 Baked and only see the SMS issue once in a blue. Also my Bluetooth works fine. Scan and connect, no flipping Discovery mode. I can turn off my headset and turn it back on without connection issues. I am afriad to move to 19 and lose this. Is it working on yours?

For me, I still have to use the discovery mode trick on A19 but had to the same on A18 as well. Perhaps that won't be an issue for you.
Guest GodDriven Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Hey Guys.. I have a quick question.. I am helping my friend here get his desire/nexus started.. But, we went through it all. The start and all the way up to here.. But.. One issue.. Can't restore Nandroid's I get the .sh adb command to follow, is there something I should do.. He is a brand new Nexus.. Just rooted.. Blasted Amon 1.7.0 on it before it even saw the daylight..
Guest cortez Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Yeah I need to do some reading too because if you take Cyanogen Rom's as an example he doesn't have his dalvik set up this way which frees up approximately 40 mb. So when you boot up free memory is around 196mb. With the new configuration I am only seeing about 154 mb upon boot (with no apps installed). Certainly not complaining but Cyanogen has always been known to be ultra-conservative with his rom's. Time for some XDA research to see the pros and cons of moving to the /cache folder or not.well, i bought a chef's hat and cooked my first ROM to include A2SD, flashed on top of Alpha 18 and i have 108MB free in the /data folder and the /cache folder now has 43MB available (vs 95MB available). still don't know what this means - but i'll figure it out. now i need to get A2SD enabled....

I'm running "Task Manager" from the Market, and with Alpha 19, it tells me that I have 205 mg free. Couldn't be happier!

Guest thebroom Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Do you have to wipe everything on your phone every time there is a new update? I'm planning to root my nexus and install a custom rom, just wanted to find out first...
Guest inf Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Do you have to wipe everything on your phone every time there is a new update? I'm planning to root my nexus and install a custom rom, just wanted to find out first... Pretty much depends... When you move to a different rom (like from Cyanodonmod -> Modaco Custom Rom) wipe is required, but when updating your rom to a newer version wipe isn't always required, depends pretty much how big changes are in the ROM. Golden rule could be, if you do just a update no wiping required, but if you seem to have problems after update (force closing of apps etc) then do a nandroid backup and wipe everything.
Guest sftechiegirl Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 I'm with cortez. I've had the same number of apps installed and my available space (for applications) were: 150 (without apps2sd - stock ROM) 180 (with apps2sd - Cyan) 114 (with apps2sd - alpha 17) 100 (with apps2sd - alpha 18) 85 (with apps2sd - alpha 19) I have confirmed that my apps2sd (or a2sd) is working. you're referring to "RAM/Memory" and i'm referring to ROM, with is equivalent to hard disk space.
Guest internettoughguy Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Paul, Did you see this? http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...tc-desire-dump/ Just curious if that would help you...
Guest Raspster Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Ok, just updated to A19. Did the wipes and opt'd NOT to go off my google back-up to save some space. Figured I would do a fresh install. I now have WAY less RAM than I did with A17. I know it has been said that we have less RAM with A19 but I went from 130mb with no apps installed to 90mb with no apps installed. Did I miss something?

Guest Raspster Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 (edited) i believe you mean ROM/file space and not RAM/Memory. please correct me if i'm wrong. yea, ROM... storage... I did read back thru the thread and saw this to be common but WOW. That's alot of space. May look into the app2sd as well. After I slapped on my apps I was looking at less than 50mb compared to 85mb with my apps installed on previous Alpha. Also, some sites like HTC home is not showing flash content? Thought it was because I was on mobile mode but switch to non mobile and still no dice. May be the HTC site although can't see any changes viewing on my desktop. Weird. Something is strange with memory on this build. I had 99mb than after being on a call for the last 30 minutes checked and am down to 60mb. I agree that A2SD doesn't seem to be working. I enabled it and installed google earth and it installed to my phone memory. Usually when A2SD is working you can check in the SD card and phone storage in settings and there will something in there called SD secondary storage. On CM 5.0.5.1 I had 30 or so large apps and my internal memory never dropped below 170mb.

Guest jpshar Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 I'd really like to flash this ROM, but I'm having problems unlocking the bootloader. (I'm an idiot) I have a question here http://android.modaco.com/content-page/299...us-one/page/60/ if no-one minds giving me some help. Cheers!

Guest sftechiegirl Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 It's not too scientific, but I took the SD card out, powered the Nexus and none of the installed apps work. I put the SD card back in and the apps are back to normal. how do you confirm A2SD is working? are there folders on the SD card that i can see? i cooked a ROM with A2SD installed CoPilot but it appears to have installed on the phone vs. my SD card.
Guest grainysand Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Not too scientific here either, but I uninstalled a 5 MB app and gained back only 1 MB of internal storage, which is the way it's always been with the apps2sd script used by this ROM, so yes, it's working.
