Yup , same here . Bluetooth scan will see all 3 of my BT devices but when i hit pair it just says pairing for a while and then give a the " there was a problem pairing " messege.

was same in A7 . i did full wipe and then clean install of Alpha 8. love this rom, but really missing the bluetooth.

steve

ok update FOR THOSE HAVING BT TROUBLE. this is what i did to get mine working , thought id throw it out there.

1. put device in pairing mode

2. hit scan for device , then right after you start scan, check the discoverable box.(your device should show up )

4. Now hit pair and right after UNCHECK discoverable it should succsefully pair . for some wierd reason toggling the discoverable box fixes pairing failure. did for me anyway

5. now just hit connect.

if this doesnt work for you try altering the check/ uncheck on discoverable sequence

anyhow hope this helps , tried this 5 times to make sure it wasnt a fluke, also tried it normally , still wouldnt pair using normal method, but worked fine using the above method

later , steve

umm so im trying to think why i have wi-fi issues .. would it make any differance if i formatted my SD card aswell as a full WIPE ??

I'd bet you it's a matter of matching the proper kernel (zimage file) with the appropriate .ko (activating wifi).

I wouldn't worry about formatting your SD. I highly doubt that's the problem. But yes, you should always be doing a WIPE before installing the Desire ROM.

I wiped, installed Alpha8, noticed no OC on the kernel, so I switched that back to Perhoot's and booted his .ko, and was back to OC+ WiFi in seconds.

*******

As for Alpha8

Agreed, Bluetooth is still buggy... but the MT GMaps FLYS and Gallery is niiiice!!!!

I lost my USB mount for a sec, but, after checking ASTRO I realized it just wasn't reading my SD. An ADB Shell Reboot fixed that right up.

Love that we got the transparent notification bar back. Thanks MGorman.

Looks like our esteemed mod added his blog to the default NewsFeeds. Good for you sir. You've been added to my NewsGenie.

Would love to see Barcode Scanner for Desire. But, I wonder if it has to do with the camera being at 3.0 instead of 5.0 that the market doesn't let you access it???

Note: my software number reverted to: MoDaCo Custom ROM with Sense "Alpha 7"... from Sense "Alpha 8" when I installed the OC Kernel and .ko. Aside from the Kernel and Software number I don't believe it had any other impact on the workings of the Alpha 8 ROM aside from OC'ing.

Thanks again Paul. I'm looking forward to the Beta/Kitchen so no more WIPE's!

EDIT: Anybody else been playing around with the Favorites widget. I really like it, but sometimes the + sign doesn't recognize a contact and i have to go into PHONE and manually add them to the favorites category.... it's a little frustrating but no big deal really.

That's about all for tonight.

Hello, all! I'm having so much fun with Alpha 8 :( I just have a question about Facebook. Apparently there are two apps installed - Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense. How can I get rid of the one just called Facebook? I am not signed into it, and I'm using the FriendStream thingy, so I don't need it. I tried uninstalling with EStrong File explorer, but no dice... Thanks in advance.

Known Issues

Changelog

Alpha 8

  • Hugely, HUGELY, optimised for space. Only the framework sits on /data now (and there's 12MB free on system currently!), and I foresee that with more work, we might even be able to fit everything on /system!
  • dalvik-cache moved to /cache, this frees up a ton of space on /data
  • .32 Custom kernel by myself and teknologist with undervolt for low frequencies only, our usual modules etc. for VPN, tun and the like, props to persiansown for the UC source and cyanogen for the kernel git - this should fix Bluetooth!
  • USB mount app preinstalled
  • Maps 4 port by Brut preinstalled which adds multitouch and non US navigation (both tested)
  • Gallery 3D app from Nexus One preinstalled (multitouch tested and working)
  • Added default android keyboard with voice search - also fixes voice search issues!
  • Added alternate news widget from Nexus One (GenieWidget)
  • Online kitchen for MoDaCo Ad Free / Plus members (see my sig for deets)
  • Slimmed down customize directory with added en-US - thanks qteknology for the inspiration. All the space counts!
    • Fixed issue with ringtones list
      • Changes to try and resolve random reboots

      Alpha 5

[*]Fixed white screen on boot, wifi and update-script issues

      [*]Fixed graphical glitching

      Alpha 1-4

      [*]Disastrous

For those of you who are interested in the Barcode Scanner App for the Desire ROM. :(

http://code.google.com/p/zxing/downloads/d...Scanner3.01.apk

i just dropped it on my SD card in /system/app and then used ASTRO to install it. If you don't have ASTRO file manager just ADB it.

ON AN UNRELATED NOTE (SORRY).

What is it?

As you all know, HTC have announced the 'HTC Desire', which is effectively HTC's version of the Nexus One. It shares a lot of the same hardware, but features cool stuff like HTC Sense and other cool apps (such as a camera app with face recognition, touch focus etc. etc.).

Do you mean Face Detection? That's what it seemed to show on the camera menu, but I dunno what's to come. Face Recognition would be freeeaky tho.

to clarify (my understanding of your steps), you have:

  1. - under Sound & Display confirmed the Profile is set to Normal (and not Silent)
    - confirmed the media and ringtone volume levels at adequate levels,
    - confirmed a default notification tone as been selected
    - selected a phone ringtone,
    - (from the messaging app) selected a messaging notification tone,
    - (from the messaging app) enabled the receive notification and play notification settings
not trying to come across in a condescending tone, but i had the same problem that was corrected when i reset the above settings. in my case i was likely not paying attention to what i was doing. Edited by cortez

I noticed that on Alpha 8 the font locations are no longer in /data/system-fonts but back to /system/fonts :(

got it working, thanks for the wipe advice.

Im really impressed with the speed of this, the browser really seems fast...im coming from a bone stock unrooted n1 straight to this..im quite impressed.

how much free memory should i have with this alpha? I used superboot ere27 but i didnt choose the himem...should i redo it using himem? I tried several flash pages and then decided to see how a game looked and it gave me a "dont have enough free memory to display that.." error with a yellow exclamation point. I have seen videos of others playing this game with their desire roms...seems like i dont have enough free memory, i have killed all of the other apps running.

ive been using jailbroken iphones for the last 3 years but wanted some more freedom.. and ive never had an android device..until a few weeks ago

im hooked..it gets better and better..its funny, jailbreaking iphones slows them down...but rooting/flashing a nexus one seems to speed it up!

thanks for the awesome work

Hi Paul,

Is there any chance that Camera Flash and BT will be fixed in the next release (A9)?
