Hi Paul,

Is there any chance that Camera Flash and BT will be fixed in the next release (A9)?

- RasmusJV, Denmark

I'll probably push A9 to fix the oversized boot image for some people and the build.prop showing A7.

re: BT and market missing apps, i'm looking into that now.

re: the Camera flash fix, i'll look at that seperately later.

Hi m8s,

Testing Alpha8 now..

I just installed my favorite Battery Widget.

But after instalation i can not find the new widget in the list to activate it?

Anyone added/installed a widget so far?

Regards

Aspi

And the Android Picturaframe Widget is there twice.. (Probably installed a second time with the 3D gallery)

Would the missing apps from the market have to do with the phone displaying only ENGLISH (U.K.) and not ENGLISH (USA) or maybe it's reporting itself as another region.. Just a thought as some online services take this into consideration.

I did a wipe + dalvik wipe and it installed without any problems :( The rom is very usable for me except for some small issues below... apart from that I like this rom very much! :(

These are my whishes / isues so far:

  • Do not like the boot animation/sound, I find the CM blue animation much better
  • I have removed allot of application pre-installed which I don't use (HTCAlbum, Facebook integration(app & widget), Stocks etc) Currently I remove them instantly after initial setup using Titanium backup :( Maybe some components can be made optional in online kitchen ^^
  • Some missing apps from Market (I've read that they are probably U.S. applications)
  • No camera flash

I haven't used BT so I cannot confirm problems about that.

Thanks P!

Status update

Alpha 9 uploading now. This can be flashed over the top of Alpha 8 without a wipe.

- oversized boot image: fixed in Alpha 9

- request for Car Home: included in Alpha 9

- incorrect version on about screen: fixed in Alpha 9

- request for 'stock contacts': not in base, may come in kitchen later today

- missing applications in market: slight build.prop tweaks in Alpha 9, but seems still not to be happy. Strange one - investigation continues.

- bluetooth issues: slight BT tweaks in Alpha 9, but still not working correctly. BT libraries seem significantly different in the Desire ROM, unknown if this will be fixed before next Beta drop.

- bootsound: I have removed the bootsound from Alpha 9, it will be an optional extra in the kitchen. It was annoying me. :(

- camera 3MP limit: reverse engineering the camera app shows it actually supports devices up to 8 Megapixels! On this basis, 5MP support could be possible before the next Beta drop.

- camera flash problem: as noted, N1 torch works so it's unlikely to be a base ROM issue. As the flash is being 'detected' (reverse engineering the code shows it supports non-flash devices), the problem is in the flash firing code. May not be fixed before next Beta drop.

Incidentally, I consider this 'Alpha' until such time as BT is fixed and ideally Camera. :(

Well ive played around a bit more with A8 and I still see himem disappear. I have a clean install of A8 and A7 on nandroid and switching between them with wipe in between clearly shows a lot snappier behavior in A7 vs the A8. Not sure why I am among those few experiencing this.

Ill have a go with A9 when its up and ready and see if anythings changes.

Question - why does it say REBOOT under About phone after the first boot with A8? If you obey the reboot it goes away?

//P

EDIT: Oh.. BTW - INSANELY good work Paul, you've made the bond between me and my lovely phone even stronger ;-)

Wow - that was quick.

Just joined up here - couldn't resist the Desire Rom any longer.

Completely new to Android (well I was a few weeks ago!) and found the whole process pretty pain free.

Yet to test out BT in my car but loving everything else about Alpha 8 so far.

Thanks for the hard work Paul!!

Sorry for the noob question, but if its flashed over the top of Alpha 8 does that mean we retain all the settings, data etc?

Here is the output from A7, then A8 on first boot and then after first reboot. Im starting to wonder if this is a problem with Advanced Task Manager reporting the memory wrong. Im kinda stumped - but this is not your problem so Ill continue to check why im getting (according to ATM) 150MB free with A8 and about 250-250MB free with A7.

A7 - running:

Niclas] ~ $ adb shell free

total used free shared buffers

Mem: 395236 274424 120812 0 636

Swap: 0 0 0

Total: 395236 274424 120812

Niclas] ~ $

A8 - After first boot:

Niclas] ~ $ adb shell free

total used free shared buffers

Mem: 394776 367104 27672 0 888

Swap: 0 0 0

Total: 394776 367104 27672

Niclas] ~ $

A8- After first reboot:

Niclas] ~ $ adb shell free

total used free shared buffers

Mem: 394776 283880 110896 0 644

Swap: 0 0 0

Total: 394776 283880 110896

Niclas] ~ $

Er, I don't really see a problem here?

Himem is working fine for you.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction to getting the stock messaging apk, I liked the way a new sms opened on the homescreen with the ability to reply.

Quick questions before i decide to flash :(

1) Is the camera 5 MP yet

2) Does flash 10.1 work? like int he browser flawlessly?

3) are all the google default apps and widgets installed? (calednar, carhome, gmail etc..)

4) Does wifi work?

5) Can I flash the 'original nexus one rom' if i want to go back, where can i find it (my phones already rooted)

Thanks paul :(

Yeah as I wrote, it seems Advanced Task Manager has a problem, not the ROM. Thnx anyway.

Hello all! :(

I like the HTC PDF viewer.

So I have tried to install it on my stock rom no root (not ready for a daily use with the alpha x): in the zip archive we can find "PDFViewer" locate in "system/app/".

But when I try to install, I have this message: "app non installed" (in french: "application non installée")

What I have missed?

Thanks! :(

A8 update: BT is better, but still a little weird about connecting.

My 8G SD card still will not mount! It works fine under CyanogenMod....

Are you using the application that mounts the USB? Check in your apps-list, think its named "Mount USB" or alike.

Run it to mount, run it again to unmount.
