I've always had issues with Nandroid, so now use Titanium Backup (which Paul includes in most of his ROMs) which backs up your app's settings as well as the actual apps - and when restored, the installed apps are seen by the Market (so you can upgrade).

Means I can wipe, install new ROM, boot, run through setup, install all apps back to how they were, in about 15 mins max.

And the beauty of Android, I can do this whilst on the train, etc!

None of this tethered to a PC like Apple malarkey :(

I would guess Nandroid struggles as the Desire ROM alters the partition table layout and sizes - so gets confused when trying to restore each partition.

Just an idea (I can't read through all the thread to check) but have you tried restoring the old ROM via update.zip, booting it up, then dropping back to Recovery and restoring over the top of that? Rather than trying to restore over the top of Desire?

He means either CM or stock android, go grab either of those updates.zips, flash, then try restore. Sounds valid :(

thanks, i applied the stock rom but still got the same error messages. But i will stick with the stock rom. But now i have a new problem, whenever i try to apply the 2.1 update that google released, it keeps saying:

"E: signature verification failed" "installation aborted"

scrap tht lol, the update was already part of the rom. sorry

I can live without the 5MP camera and functional flash... for now...

But has anyone gotten any Bluetooth function out of Alpha 10? I can't sync with anything - not headsets, not other phones, not anything. :(

that seems to be a problem with the alpha leak and though paul spent a lot of time on it, there's no fix for now.

it works for some people and does not for others, probably dependant on the other bluetooth hardware.

lets hope someone leaks a newer desire build soon :(

ive been able to get the bluetooth connected to my kenwood head unit in my car...but its somewhat unreliable..

it doesnt connect automatically when i get into the car and it takes a few tries and a bit of fiddling to actually get it to connect. It also sometimes only connects to phone audio and not media audio...and sometimes the other way around...and then sometimes it connects to both. Also, with the original stock nexus rom, it would connect and the AVRCP would work properly, play, pause and ff/rw. With the desire rom...only ff/rw work and not play/pause.. (strange considering every other device that has avrcp tends to only work with play/pause and no ff/rw (like my iphone 3gs)...but the bluetooth on the nexus works MUCH better than my iphones ever did. Clean sound and no skipping. Cant get the nexus to find my dock via bt at all with this desire ROM though..

Im very pleased with this.. i use it daily and since I am actually able to listen to my podcasts through the car speakers, i find no reason to go back to the stock rom. Ill be completely stoked when the BT problems are all figured out..but for now, its usable.

QUESTION:

is there a program that will allow me to backup all my apps/settings on one type of rom, then flash to another rom and be able to restore these settings? Like if i backed up using the desire rom...could i load a cyanogen rom and restore all my apps/settings into the new loaded ROM? Sorry for my noobishness...i just recently got into the world of android and rooting...im slowly learning and love it more and more every day!

ALSO, has anyone figured out a way to have all of the apps showing up in the appstore? i still have problems finding certain apps..

all i did was copied all the files from the sd card to the computer...in the folder "backups" not "backup", u'll find a folder call apps....all i did was transfer all that back to my sd card after partitioning and wipes etcs....used Astro file manager...went to menu...tools...backups...restore....

o..ya...i believe i had to use astro to backup the apps to the sd card in the first place =P

The 3 main 'issues' as I see them and their current status...

- Bluetooth - Bluetooth is patchy / unreliable and although i've spent a lot of time on this, there's no real progress yet. The Bluetooth libraries in the Desire ROM are pretty different to the N1 ROM (in a good way - they have more services I believe), but this does mean it's non trivial to 'switch in' the N1 ROM libraries at this time.

- Camera - I see manup has got the flash working in his ROM now, which is cool - he's a good guy so i'm sure he will contribute this back to the wider effort. Given time and persistence, the Camera app can also be modified to enable 5 Megapixel mode. I'll look into this on my return if it's still an issue and we haven't had a new Beta drop.

- Missing Market Apps - this is the real weird one - I can't really see why this is happening. In the past, Market contents have been based purely on the device's fingerprint (which I have deliberately set to match the N1 ERD79 intial release for compatability) and the operator identification. I've dug into this one pretty deeply, the one thingI suspect and haven't pursued yet is that the device's properties from the RIL are somehow being incorrectly reported by the OS, although if that was the case, Market Enabler should fix it. If anyone wants to pursue this, I would try the following...

- download and install Market Enabler from here (don't run it yet)

- type 'adb shell rm -f /data/data/com.android.vending/cache/* && adb shell killall com.android.vending'

- run market enabler and set the region to T-Mo/USA

- test the market!

And with that, i'm outta here, the snowboard is waxed and the powder beckons... :(

P

Hope the slopes are treating you well Paul! Having the beta Desire ROM has been quite fun indeed.

A COUPLE OTHER BUGS

Soft Keys/Lighting

The Calendar mini-widget shows keep loading in the background

NICE TO HAVE'S

**Still not sure what contact list the Favorites widget is linked to... would be nice if they were linked to a default phone contacts list if you wanted.

**Is there a way to list all e-mail accounts in one widget on the screen? The current version only lists one account... I'm thinking more in terms of a widget that would aggregate your e-mails like Microsoft Outlook.

Sorry if this has been covered but I have been through just about every page and done a search.

I uninstalled and reinstalled google maps but still cannot get navigation to work. It will map and go but just sits there saying searching for GPS... :(

I am on Alpha 9 by the way.

are u in US? if not google nav will not function (unless u hack the app, which is a different approach altogether)

hmmm weird thing - tried flashing it several times, tried all wipe combinations but those sensor keys won't light up. quite irritating when using it in the dark.

Can someone with working backlight tell me their way of flashing to alpha 10?

i recently flashed manup's remix version of your rom...

ALTHOUGH the flash is now working for the camera....the rest of the camera app isnt work really well at all..

i cant zoom or control any of the contrast/sharpness/brightness settings...and face detection no longer works..

ALSO...he was able to get the original N1 dock clock app into the rom and it works perfectly with the DOCK...comes up when you plug it into the dock and everything!

also, the graphical changes are pretty neat, as is the extra app space..

...but since I cant really adjust any of the camera stuff...im tempted to go back to modaco's rom..

i was running alpha 8 before flashing to manup's remix (which is also based off alpha 8)..

i liked it and it was running pretty damn well...i dont think theres any reason for me to move up to alpha10 at the moment...

hope you are having a blast tearing up the slopes, paul! thanks for your hard work on this rom
