Hello.

I need in a phone: Windows Mobile, Storage, Speed and preferably without keyboard. As much storage as possible, to carry a lot of music.

I currently use Omnia i900 with 16gb + 16gb microsd and I'm about fine with those 32GB.

But I've been using it for the longest time now and I want badly to change phone.

I love HD2, but it doesn't have storage capacity, with 15GB of music (I need at least 1 GB for other stuff) I would not enjoy the phone.

So Omnia II seems a good choice, only 8GB, but 24GB in total seems decent, and 40GB in a few months when 32gb microsd comes out is a dream come true.

But the one I'm tasting is Slow. Slower than Omnia i900.

I wouldn't enjoy a slow phone either.

But I saw it has the oldest ROM there is I think.

WM 6.1 from August 2009. (I8000**IH*)

- Does i8000 get faster with ROM updates? If yes, Cooked or Official?

- How much faster? From Slow to Smooth/Speedy?, or just a bit faster?

- Are you happy with your omnia II? Would you buy it again if you lost it and had enough money?

- Do you know of a better, faster WM device with at least 8GB currently available?

My decision is entirely on your hands.

Thanks a lot for reading this and replying.

Regards.

do you want just wm or is android an optoin?

Just WM, since I kind of depend on some applications that I've just found on WM.

But is there an android bases device with a lot of storage? Or did you mean try to install android in i8000?

omnia ii has just 256 mb ram, and htc desire has 576 mb

take a look at htc desire

Well, it sure is a lot of RAM and that would speed up the device a lot. But I've tested HD2 and it does very well with 448 MB, plus is WM, and has about the same storage, which is none.

How I wish there was a HD2 with internal 8gb at least.

So can any one answer my questions? Do you recommend omnia II? Will it get faster?

Each time I'm less convinced of Omnia II.

Are u trying the Omnia2 with TouchWiz and WidgetPlus? or u disabled them already?

with Samsung TouchWiz and WidgetPlus, the Omnia2 is slow and laggy. with them disabled I think is quite fast (but maybe not enough for u if u already disabled them and think it's slow)

Do you really need 16GB of music? apart from syncing a bit more you could never listen to all that in one hit as such.

Personally I am more than happy with my Omnia 2, I've had no problems at all with my old bulk standard ROM.

I'm sure I can only help a little, but I was using an i910 and now I have an i920 (both from Verizon). I really liked the Omnia, but I find the Omnia II to be much much faster and display is excellent. I have few crashes and the battery lfe is great. This is, I'm sure, because I use it mostly as a phone and email device. If you want a new phone right now, I'd suggest the Omnia II but there's always somehting better comming out soon...

I first tried it with touchwiz and widget app. Almost unbearable. Like 65MB Free of RAM with no open applications. I disabled them and it got only to 70mb or so. And still slow. I rebooted and it was acceptable 89MB; but speed was still not fast; not slow anymore, but not fast, and with the ugliest today screen I had seen in a few years.

I did this: Put the devices next to each other in file manager, ready to open windows folder, the heaviest one. I pressed first Omnia II, then Omnia 1, then HD2.

HD2 opened in an instant, Omnia 1 took 1 second, 1.5 at much. Omnia II took 3 seconds (And with the samsung file manager it took 13 seconds!! No kidding!).

Also when you press the Windows Start Icon, HD2 opens the icons before you can turn your eyes to the center of the screen.

Omnia 1 takes like 0.5 seconds to get the drop down menu open.

Omnia II like 0.3 seconds I guess, but when samsung apps where working to get to the screen it took like 3 seconds. Everything took a lag.

Do you really need 16GB of music?

I need 30GB at least. I like to jog and other stuff, and put ALL my music in random order (shuffled), so I shuffle 100 artist and I have a lot of variety. If I don't like a song for jogging I just skip it.

If I do 15GB of music, I would get half the variety. AndI would loose time to decide what to carry and what to leave.

But I guess I'll have to do that for some months, I'm thinking to keep the HD2 with 16GB until 32GB comes out, and sell the omnia2.

Omnia II has a 16gb internal mem version add a 16gb microSD and you're good to go. The free RAM is the main issue i think .... if you can live with not much multi tasking .... Omnia II is good enough otherwise i think the HTC's huge ram is a big big plus

To be honest the device will be faster on latest version, but don't expect much

Omnia 2 would be very great phone if it have bigger memory and faster cpu, (but really, the main issue here is the memory)

as an answer to your questions:

- Does i8000 get faster with ROM updates? If yes, Cooked or Official?

yes, ofc more with cooked, currently using official

- How much faster? From Slow to Smooth/Speedy?, or just a bit faster?

for me, bit faster

- Are you happy with your omnia II? Would you buy it again if you lost it and had enough money?

i can't say am happy, am satisfied, but not amazed, and no i will not buy it again, I'll go for Andriod as it seems the future leader

- Do you know of a better, faster WM device with at least 8GB currently available?

I had the chance to test Xperia x1, its very stable, lot of free memory, lack of storage space and very usual WM phone, but touch response is unbelievable, feels like capacitive but with stylus :D

Hi

Until the problem with auto-closing applications is solved I would NOT recommend purchasing this phone.

Otherwise I love the phone, but it would be nice to be able to have two applications running at the same time.

If I were you I would wait a little bit more for some new phones to come out or until the release of windows mobile 7 and just hang out with the i900! I'm hanging to change as well but I think it will be worth the wait.....I hope so! :D

I know I have the Verizon i920 and you have another version, but I have never had a *problem* with it autoclosing apps. I've had 8+ running at one time until I remember that I have some running that I don't need and manually close them out.

I have to say I'm not thrilled with it either. Specs seem good, but its actually not that fast, and RAM is definitely an issue.

It has a few annoying bugs, takes a few secs to start ringing, and vibrates after you have answered.

Finally WM is just not as friendly as the Android/IPhone alternatives.

Just my 2p.

You can find in ebay a "16GB version" which is an 8GB version with an 8GB microsdhc.

I can't decide. The problem is that I'm watching a list of WM phones that are yet to come, and not one of them has internal storage!

Thanks a lot.

my Omnia II was ultra fast running WM6.1 official Samsung rom (with Touchwiz and widget Plus), it was ultra slow running WM6.5 Samsung rom (with touchwiz and Widget Plus), it is much faster running WM6.5.3 with Touchwiz and Widget Plus becos of better ram management.

One thing I notice is that the problem with WM6.5 Samsung rom is not about Samsung prop UI eating up too much cpu (in fact it hardly eats any), it combined with WM6.5 awful ram management, eats wayyyyy too much ram and it eats ram fast! So WM6.5.3 solves the problem of WM not releasing all the ram when you close a programme.

My suggestion is that, buy it, but flash WM6.5.3 as soon as you get it

What ROM do you use? I noticed this vibrate after answering a call after flashing to JB1.

@xaznxplaya

I'm using JB1 too, but noticed it since I first got the phone, at least to some extent.

OP: Are you testing a display model at a store?

If so, you can't take it seriously, as you don't know how many people have had their hands on it, and how messed up it could be.

As well, not sure where you guys got the idea that there is no 16GB version. I have a 16GB version, 16GB internal memory with a 16GB SD card installed.

I'm extremely happy with mine. I'm using Windows Default today screen with JB1 ROM. Everything is snappy and I rarely have to wait for 'loading' (only programs like Opera 10 etc.). I have Touchwiz UI and Widget Plus disabled and performance set to high. Oh, and I can have 5+ apps open at any given time...but I still occasionally have something closed without reason.

mine is 16 GB also.

I have had the Omnia2 for about three months and really like it. I am not sure I would buy it again in the later future as there are some sweet phones on the way in the next year. but as of now, I am buying my girlfriend an omnia2 next week. I have never had any programs close on me, but I also have disabled the today screen which has given me plenty of operating ram to use multiple programs. It really depends on what type of user you are. I love the 3.5 multi out for watching movies on the tele when I go to the girlfriends house. not sure who else offers this feature.

I am not sure where your inforation source is but i can assure you that i am currently using one with 16gig of internal memory.

I like the omnia II to me its fast enough and the display is pretty good if you have HD wallpapers you will definitely appreciate the screen. I had the phone with the stock 6.5 rom and it worked fine but preferred the finger friendly version so i flashed to the 6.5.3 rom and like someone else said the phone somehow got faster.

I like the phone, so if you intend to get one now then do. then again these days phones become outdated pretty fast so personally i would have waited for at least another 3-5 months to see what phones are released before making the final dcision.

I have a 16GB version

Wow! That's great news! Where did you all get it!?!? I've searched for it a lot.

OP: Are you testing a display model at a store?

Yes. Mine. I'm a seller. I have quite a few devices. But seems I'm a lousy seller with wrong information.

I checked ebay, I checked other stores and none had them in stock.

For example:

Expansys doesn't have it in catalog

Negri in coming soon since ever http://www.negrielectronics.com/samsung-i8...ked-p-2579.html

No one in ebay sells them.

My providers haven't offered them, so I just assumed it didn't came out.

My first choice now its omnia ii 16gb with 6.5.3! I'm happy
