Guest rambell Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Hey all. I have tried googling this but since I don't really know what the issue is or if there is even one, obviously I did not get any good results. For me, whenever I press the screen lock button on the top right, the screen turns off directly without showing the lockscreen. This I suppose means that the device is now in sleep mode and not locked? To wake the device, a short press of the button and a short wait will show the lockscreen. If I long press the button, the device will wake and unlock and go direct to the Today screen. Now my question is: I heard that if you short press the button, by right the lockscreen will appear and then the display is turned off. Is this suppose to be the case? Or am I missing something here? In any case, it seems a little silly to me that to see my lock screen, I have to go to Start/Lock. Isn't there a button in the Today screen for it? I am using the i8000, original rom, wm 6.5, windows titianium. Pls advise. Thanks. PS: You may not understand what I am asking but it is alright. I am getting more confused as I type anyway.
Guest ElThomsono Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Just to describe the operation of mine (to confuse you further) a short press switches the screen off, but another short press will bring it back without any lock in place: you can start pressing icons and they'll operate. A long press locks it with the swipe to unlock screen, which flashes up momentarily before the screen switches off. A short press turns the screen on to show the lock screen, and a swype unlocks that, or a long press bypasses it straight to the today screen. Again, Start > Lock will display the lock screen which can be turned off with a short press of the hardware button. I think that's just how it is. Hope this in some way helped!
Guest Vostradamus Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 I think screen off (standby mode) when short pressing it is normal (mine works that way too) Long pressing it equals running the lock app, and then the screen goes off. Short pressing it when in standby just wakes the device, the fact that it will wake up in locked or unlocked state can be set via settings. Ok, most probably I'm making a mess here lol :( let's try to sum it up Device awake: short press -> standby long press -> lock and standby Device in standby short press -> wake up (asks for unlocking if set to lock on wake up in settings) long press -> wake up and unlock That should be it :(
Guest rambell Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Aha! Thank you both of you. I understand better now. So what I am experiencing is actually the right um..experience. Just any question... Between these two: 1)short press the lock button and just having screen off [setting is locked when wake] 2)long press the lock button and having device locked and screen off Which is better as recommended setting? Or is there no real difference at all?

I use option number.... 3 :( - disabled the lock on wake up setting - installed S2U2 and using it as both lockscreen application and fullscreen caller id - using the right side button only to put the device in standby, leaving S2U2 to handle the rest :( :(
Guest tigerphones Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) Anyone here know of a fix for this? Recently, the lock button no longer causes my Omnia 2 to go into standby when I do a short press...It USED to do like this: I could short press lock button > Omnia 2 would go into standby. I then short press lock button > Omina 2 comes out of standy by and shows lockscreen. Now, only a long press of lock button causes Omnia 2 to go to lock screen, but I can't make it go into standby anymore. As it stands, the only way I know to turn off my display and make the phone go into standby is to have it set to go into standby after 30 seconds of inactivity when on battery power. Anyone know of the proper setting or area in the registry to fix this? I was trying to OC my phone, and I think it might have changed some setting somewhere.... Any help is greatly appreciated. [uPDATE] Wound up just hard resetting the phone...it fixed this lock button issue. Edited April 14, 2010 by tigerphones

As weird as that sounds it's fixed it every time it's happened, after trying pretty much anything else I could think of.

This has worked with me, Thanks :) although it is still weird to lock the screen by hitting both the lock key and the camera key at the same time, but I think I can live with it.
