[Wishlist] Latest Ultralite i8000 ROM (based on JB1 and WM6.5.5)

Not sure if there are others who share the same wishlist as I, but here's the wishlist for my desired Ultralite ROM:

Based on JB3 and latest build of WM6.5.5

(with contributions from the replies in this thread)

Pagepool: ZERO (dynamic)- Will this make the phone unstable?

Software to be retained

Samsung Dialer- for video calls, many of us use it

Samsung Camera

Microsoft Keyboard- in the event other installed SIPs screws up

Samsung Settings- looks like no choice

MS Office 2010

FM Radio- why waste the FM hardware

GPS patch- to increase reception

NET CF 3.7- yes WM6.5.5 has native NET CF 3.5. But apparently, 3.7 runs at a much faster speed.

Arcsoft MMS- (not too essential, though nice to have. Never know when we need to receive MMS)

Software to be excluded

All other Samsung software and customisation

All other software not included in the default WM6.5 OS (i.e. Midomi, Rich Apps, etc)

All Other SIP- Block Recognizer, Letter Recognizer, Transcriber, even Samsung XT9 etc

This is to give the i8000 highest RAM possible on the latest WM6.5.5 OS, while retaining core functions like video call, camera, etc. The user is free to install whatever software to further enhance their own experiences.

I'm still in the process of going through the Rom-building instructions, not sure if I will eventually get down to building one.

Any kind cooker willing to help me (and perhaps others) to build this ROM?

Also, I welcome other buddies' feedback on what to add/remove from this ultralite ROM.

I wanted to do this since day 1 i got this phone, but sadly have no time. After a few failed cooking attempts, and a really hard time with the all in one OEM package samsung created, i gave up.

If you ever do this, please find a way to have working MMS. The classic Arcsoft client for the regular microsoft inbox is perfect.

Oh my god! that would be AWSOME!!

Please, somebody (one of the experienced cooks perhaps :( help this guy to build such a rom!!

Im sure there would be a lot of people who would love this rom!

I myself switched from my beloved 6.5.5 ROM to a new 6.5 Light rom becouse of the 100MB free RAM it offered

not too sure, bro. been very busy and still looking at the rom cooking procedures.

The reason I put up the post is to see if such a rom is in demand and hopefully one of the expert cookers can kick start things.

I have a couple of questions though (which I posted in the 1st thread):

Is ZERO pagepool advisable for Omnia 2? Cos there are ROMs for HTC devices with zero pagepool.

What's the downside to zero pagepool?

I would love to have it too!

in fact i am always comparing all the lite roms and realise they still have too much stuff that i dun use :(

I think the nearest one would be rodrigofd's ultra lite but its a older rom.

and unfortunately he is not coming out with it any more :(

Yes, I agree. Touchplayer can be installed separately. In fact, I stopped using Touchplayer altogether due to the stupid "INDEXING the ENTIRE PHONE FOR MEDIA" problem.

Currently using PocketPlayer for MP3s.

Anyway, Gary is keeping an eye on this thread. So let's hope he will be able to turn our wishlist into something good!

skin for what WMP? if so where do you get it and how did you enable SRS WOW for it? I'm starting to hate touch player too since it so slow when browsing my library. BTW what do you use for video then? since touch player is suppose to have codecs to play many formats.

I will still use Touchplayer for watching movies/videos since it's the only player (correct me if i'm wrong) that support hardware acceleration for video decoding.

But my music library is managed by PocketPlayer.
