Guest pinnnnn Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Is there somewhere you can buy replacement housing cheap?

Guest volatile_ink Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Ebay not sure about due to replacing the front screen is bit to much for most people. If people wanted back covers made for them I'm happy to do that. How much would you be looking at?
Guest AlunJ Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 im thinkin of only doin the back cover, front looks more awkward
Guest iammodo Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 How much would you be looking at? Been thinking about it today. front £12.55 back £4.59 Paint £5 labour £5 designs £10 and if you wanted a design I will be using a qualified fine artist. She is painting two cases now so will post them when she is done. The front case doesn't come with a digitizer so the area around that will look fine.
Guest iammodo Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 im thinkin of only doin the back cover, front looks more awkward back is very easy compared to the front yes. I think the phone would look fine with just random back covers.
Guest volatile_ink Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I think the phone would look fine with just random back covers. Agreed. I've got a grey Hero which had an OrangeUK logo on the back cover. Ordered a replacement after it got scratched and they sent me a black one... the two colors grey/black go quite well together. Standard front with a 'flashy' back would be really nice. The first post mentioned a protective lacquer, was wondering if the rear could be painted, have a stencil or sticker attached and then sprayed with the lacquer?

I am having two back covers painted at the moment one with the android logo and a more detailed rat of death from disc world. The protected lacquer will be applied after that for a long lasting hard wearing case. Can I ask how much you paid for the replacement back cover?
Guest AlunJ Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I have ordered some stickers from http://www.stickandroid.com/, which i plan to use as a mask/stencil for the robot on the back.

Got it from eXpansys and paid £15.99 for it. <_< Thought I'd edit the post and mention it's a genuine HTC cover, I suppose if your going to sand it down a non-genuine replacement should suffice and be a bit cheaper. All the parts I have put the price for are HTC genuine, I work in repair so we dont pay as much.
Guest arclife Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 won't this scratch / chip really easily?
Guest JadeMonkee Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 You said it doesn't come with a digitiser... does it come with the stainless steel that surrounds it, and the metal netting over the earpiece? I dented mine, and was looking for a replacement... a new colour would be a fantastic way to get the case "repaired" and allow me to finally get that yellow Hero that was shown in the early preview videos (albeit with a touch of white on the volume buttons...).
Guest iammodo Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 won't this scratch / chip really easily? The paint is ment for cars, so is very strong. The protective layer takes 24 hours to set but 2 weeks for fully harden so as long as your sensible for the first 2 weeks it will be fine.

Comes with the steel,( but would be painted) and it comes with the metal grill yes. two reasons it doesn't come with the digitizer is 1 they cost £29, 2 it is better to paint with out it.

Let's see in a month, personally I don't think it's the right paint for the job - but am happy to proven wrong.
Guest AlunJ Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 Got my transfers today, decided to try them out on the phone before I attempt painting :) apologies for the crap pic

Guest Need_A_Username Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Wow this looks pretty damn nice! Thinking about doing the same because i damaged mine a little bit :) I was wondering, was it hard to get the paint all smooth and plain? Cause i wouldn't like to have like little paint bumps on my Hero ;)
