Guest koldad Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Well mostly because my fingertip is far larger than most links so cruising thew web with a small pointer on the page would help in clicking links

Guest koldad Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 that absolutely makes no sense. I wouldn't make the mouse pointer as large as my fingertip i would make it a dot on the screen so I could see where the screen though I was so i could tap on a link. If i could control a pointer on the screen with accuracy because i would see where it's placement on the screen was then i wouldn't be blindly sliding my finger around hoping to hit a small link button especially on a screen that if i leave my finger on for too long asks me if i want to zoom. Even a small two pixel size pointer would help navigation or if there was an onscreen difference when your finger came over a link

That's zoom on the page. :) No sence to use pointer because you can't see it under your finger. Why do not use the pen? ;)

There is a consistent rude, belittling arrogance that runs through every one of your posts in this forum. It is clear that you seem to believe that only that which you value is meaningful, and don't seem to have the capacity to understand that other people simply don't see subjective issues the way you do, and that their views are every bit as valid. This is contrary to the spirit of this community, and is unwelcome. Please consider improving your attitude to be more helpful and cooperative, rather than argumentative and critical of everyone else's opinions. If you can't do that, then consider going somewhere else. So far, from what I've seen, you're not "contributing"; rather, you're just riling people up pointlessly.

I'm not arrogant, I think the word only applies when I get something wrong, and it has been shown to be wrong, but I refuse to admit it. I don't see that happening here, you have not shown anything I said to be wrong. Edited March 17, 2010 by teamkillexpert
Guest insane73 Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 you're just riling people up pointlessly. Agreed I know you asked for a pointer, but maybe a magnifier would be helpful. I remember a magnifier like the one on the Iphone when you want to insert into a text box after a tap and hold. I do not remember the name, but there is something like that out there. When you tap a spot on the screen and hold, you can drag around the screen and either on a fixed part of the screen, or right beside your finger will be a little magnified circle or square to see what your finger is over. Then it holds position so you can tap. Not sure if they are free, but may be something to look into.

I consider my reply to be more contributing unless you prefer politeness over content and usefulness. Edited March 17, 2010 by teamkillexpert
Guest insane73 Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 I consider my reply to be more contributing unless you prefer politeness over content and usefulness. You have not contributed anything. People at times have an idea and do not know how to achieve the end result. The great thing about the forum here is that people problem solve together to achieve a common goal. And yes, politeness does rein over content. If everyone was like you, there would be no community.

If everyone was like you, there would be no community. if I were the OP, I'd like to know why isn't there a mouse pointer as I expected, and your post wouldn't have helped much. For this very question, I'll tell him: because a touchscreen has only one level of touch, that you are either touching it or you are not. so unless you touch the screen, it will not know where your finger is, therefore there is no mouse pointer. what you want is a electrostatic stylus system like a tablet, in those devices it is possible to tell the position of the stylus without it touching the surface. now I have double contribution, and all you did was to tell him what he wanted does not exist. I bet he already kinda knew that since he couldn't find it anywhere.
Guest insane73 Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 electrostatic stylus Cool! Never heard of it. I will have to check it out. Would have been easier to suggest this before as he did give an issue along with a request.
Guest teamkillexpert Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 well since none of the phones have something like that, I think it's not practical to make one this small. and it's primary function is pressure sensitivity which would be pointless for a phone. also you would need to have a screen that is both touchscreen and stylus ready, and power efficient, with good display quality. all these is just too much of a price to have a pointer, a trackball or optical tracker is much more practical. If anybody cares, there is a phone made in China that runs Windows XP, and has a trackpad on it. it's big but still phone-sized.

I have looked at all the settings and i cant find one but i would love it for web surfing If you use Opera or Skyfire browser, try this application. You'll have a mouse pointer you can control by tilting your phone. It won't make the mouse pointer follow your finger thought.
Guest inllh Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 An app. called "VirtuaMouse" can be google! I got one via Baidu, but sorry it's chinese version which I couldn't share here.
Guest damienloh Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 On Omnia i900, you can turn on the virtual mouse pointer in the WM setting. It comes in handy at times. It took me a while to get used to i8000 without mouse pointer.
Guest navin-shetty Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Try this app, VirtuaMouse, I saw someone posted reg it. Hope it may help ya...
