So i'm at home with only 1 bar or maybe 2 if i'm lucky.

I'd like to download [off the net] sumthin to my i920.

My wireless routers like 3 feet away from where I sit.

I've made all the proper wireless settings on my phone and it

diplays connected.

NOW....... I do not wan't to use the phones connection but want to use the wifi's pipe. How do I disable the phone and make the phone use the wifi for downloading ? I've tried disabling the phones connection but I get that stoopid cell connection error message.

Anyone know the proper method ??

if wifi is enabled, that is all you have to do. with I8000, it will always use wifi if available first. (but it needs to be on)

I have an issue in my house that I cannot connect to my wifi if I am too close to my router. (no idea...need to be in the next room to connect)

If you disable the phone connection, it will go into airplane mode automatically and you will get no connections.

Just make sure you have the wifi icon on top of your status bar and you are connected to wifi in the wifi settings . You will be good to go.

a great program to check out is wireless monitor from SPB. They have a free 2 week trial, but it will tell you exactly how much and what connection is downloading.

There is another way to do this which doesn't require third party software and without disabling your phone..

If you go under settings/connections/ connections you will notice that usually you have a My work Network and/or My Internet, under each of this connections is where you have you carrier's data network settings. Sometimes they are only under My Work or My Internet or there might be a specific connection with the name of you carrier connection setup...

If you choose a connection that doesn't have the carriers data settings in it your phone will not connect to it and only use available connections such as Wifi or usb internet sharing connections...

To change this you should go in the Advanced tab and click on Select Networks button. Once you do this you will have two drop down menus which have the exact same things however it is here where you set up which connection the phone should use for each situation, Internet connections or Private/ work network connections .

Click on the first drop down menu and choose a different connection then the one you currently have, usually the one named My Work Network should do it. To check if this one will do, once selcted click on the Edit button and make sure that the list at the Modem tab is empty, if not just search for one which is, or create a new one yourself with nothing in it.

Most programs connect using the connection setting in the first menu(connect to the internet using), so if you change this one you should be ok.

Now your applications will not be able to connect via the carrier data connection and just with the Wifi or USB... in case it does, go back to that connection page and set the same empty connection to the Connect to a private network section...

I hope you are able to understand this.. lol... it seems complicated but it is really easy, and you can change it back whenever you want to use your carrier data connection.

cheers
