Update i8000 Omnia 2 for Dummies & Noobs

Why i made this Tutorial?

Of course this info is all out there in the forums, but I never found a page that collects all necessary Info (eg. country codes, hardware-reset, rapidshare download, unzipping,etc...) especially for noobs and first-timers, at one place. So i decided to make one myself.

I will regulary update my choice of last stable firmware. ATM its JA5.

Thats my own choice, no one has to agree. But i guess most folks prefer to have something stable, instead of having a completely fresh but buggy version.

can u please tell me how can i flash the newer roms on my indian omnia 2 as my country's samsung site doesnt have a wm 6.5 upgrade yet..

how to do as my csc and others are not matching..

I have some serious issues with your guide.

* Connect your Omnia 2 (i8000) to your PC

* Start Octan Downloader

click on Detect and wait about 30 Sec., afterwards TURN OFF the phone

That's the way how you can brick your phone or have serious problems during the flashing or you need to try several times.

You need to browse in the files without the PDA has connected to the PC!

Then click detect and connect the phone in TURNED OFF state!

Then when the "Start downloading" button came active, press it.

And one more thing you forgot to mention:

DO NOT TRY TO FLASH THROUGH USB HUB!

And another:

Under Windows 7, you need to replace the USB driver, because with what's the windows install, not gonna work.

And no need to do hardware reset before flashing, because the flashing will delete every data anyway.

I and many others succesfully flashed without any problems, however, your suggestions make sense, so i updated the tutorial with your info,

and also integrated instructions for win7 and vista. I kept the hw-reset, since some people encountered some minor issues when they didnt do it.
