Guest FrustratedOne Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 They look different. Cyanogen looks like normal Android. Then compare to the pics in the Desire thread. 1. Open N1 Torch -> Allow request -> Reboot -> Open N1 Torch -> Does it work? 2. If not, also try downloading Terminal from the Market. Open -> type su -> press enter -> Allow request -> Reboot -> Open Terminal -> Type su and press enter again -> Does black screen come back? Just downloaded a free Terminal and tried your step 2's: The black screen doesn't happen here, just goes to $su# in the terminal. The black screen only happened sometimes in that CPU program if I allowed root, and sometimes the Torch program upon allowing access as well. The black screen doesn't seem to be occurring anymore anywhere but it still can't "find my LED" even though I just tested it with the camera.
Guest JonnyRockets Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) from what I can see here, it seems you're still on the stock (original) ROM for the N1! you need to be on a custom ROM to use root. You need to root before installing a custom rom. Edited April 4, 2010 by JonnyRockets

Maybe this is indeed the issue then -- the problem is that I tried installing Cyanogenmod before from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/update-cm-4.2-signed.zip but it threw errors. Should I try Desire?

If you can type Su and it works, you're rooted. N1 Torch is just messed up on your phone for some reason. Ignore it for now. Should I try Desire? Yes. Go to the Desire thread, download "r21 with MoDaCo Additions" and put it on your phone's SD card without unzipping it. Go to Recovery -> Nand Backup -> Wipe data -> Wipe dalvik/cache -> Flash from zip -> Alpha21 -> reboot What happens? Edited April 4, 2010 by JonnyRockets

Will edit this post once it's done flashing. K, rebooting. Got back into the phone and... it's just hanging on the opening screen with the four-color X and the lock icon. Nevermind now it's kicking into this HTC "quietly brilliant" thing. I hope this is all a first-time thing because it's taking eons. It's still, uh, on that screen. s***. Still stuck. Not good. :P I can't seem to even turn it off now. God this is exactly the type of crap I wanted to avoid when I made this thread. Edited April 4, 2010 by FrustratedOne
Guest FrustratedOne Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Restored from image and installed cyanogenmod. Ooo very cool intro video :P Aaaaaaaaaaand this one's looping forever too. It doesn't make it past this video. What on earth is going on?!

It doesn't make it past this video. What on earth is going on?! Did you root using nexus-addon-0.1-signed.zip from Cyanogen's thread, or Superboot? Try whichever one you didn't, and then try to get N1 Torch working.
Guest FrustratedOne Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Did a factory wipe/reset and that seemed to fix it. Reinstalled Cyano and booted in. New ABOUT info: Mod version CyanogenMod-5.0.5.3-N1 Build Number EPE54B

Guest FrustratedOne Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Success! Nexus One Torch is strobelighting like there's no tomorrow. Sexy. Alright now I know I have root access and now I know this thing's installed correctly (I am assuming) -- should I still install the Cyanogen addon pack? What does that all do exactly?

What did you do to fix it? Try Desire r21 as you did before
Guest FrustratedOne Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) Congrats! What did you do to fix it? Try Desire r21 as you did before I had done a factory wipe before installing the cyanogenmod. Again if I install desire r21 does it "overwrite" anything? Can I just flash back and forth between the ROMS at will? What is the difference between Desire and Cyanogen? Edited April 4, 2010 by FrustratedOne

Can I just flash back and forth between the ROMS at will? Ah, did you not do the wipes before installing the Desire rom previously? That would explain why it wasn't working. You have to wipe before switching ROMs or it will mess up and not work, so yes to "overwriting" (all data is wiped). You could make Nand Backups to switch back and forth, but it's not worth the hassle. Just put Desire ROM on your phone and stick with it for 48 hours... Worry about other ROMs later.... You're putting the cart before the horse here. What is the difference between Desire and Cyanogen? They look different. Cyanogen looks like normal Android. Guest R@v3n Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 You need to root before installing a custom rom. uhm...no? you need to unlock the bootloader to install a custom ROM...anyways, happy to hear you got it working FrustratedOne! welcome to the happy world of unlocked N1's!
Guest pvillasuso Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I had done a factory wipe before installing the cyanogenmod. Again if I install desire r21 does it "overwrite" anything? Can I just flash back and forth between the ROMS at will? What is the difference between Desire and Cyanogen? If you install the desire ROM , be aware that there are some "issues" : Known Issues * Bluetooth does not work reliably * FM Radio finds stations but does not produce any sound * Footprints camera view is rotated 90 degrees * USB mount notification does not fire - use 'USB Mount' application from menu. --- IMO Enom is the most stable , but it's a matter of what you like at last ... How to know ? Install them all :( ... and try them .... now you can do it ! :P Remeber to wipe all , when flashing a new ROM and for the upcoming question .. here is the answer : http://android.modaco.com/content/google-n...ndroid-backups/
Guest FrustratedOne Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I tried Desire and it seemed really buggy to me. The Cyanogenmod felt quite stable to me, so I think I'm going to stick with that for now.
Guest JonnyRockets Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) So I can help others with this in the future, when you say you did a Factory Reset before installing Cyanogen successfully, do you mean the reset within Android, a data wipe from the bootloader (the white screen), or from Recovery? Congrats again, and enjoy! Edited April 4, 2010 by JonnyRockets

You can also "theme" the CM ROM More info here: http://www.nexus-nation.com/nexus-nation-f...tid=5&id=10 You apply this , the same way you flashed the rom Just drop the 2 files @ /sdacard , and flash them in order .... First this one : http://www.androidspin.com/downloads.php?d...0.5.3_Final.zip 2nd this one : http://www.androidspin.com/downloads.php?d...TheGoodies4.zip The "look" changes a lot !

Congrats again, and enjoy! I did "adb reboot recovery" from the cmd prompt to kick my phone into recovery mode, and then within that menu, went to Wipe/Wipe All or however it's worded, then flashed Cyanogen mod (flash zip from sd) What are some good eyecandy apps for Cyanogenmod/Android/N1 in general? I already nabbed the Beautiful Widgets. Anything else worth getting? Any other cool apps? Edited April 4, 2010 by FrustratedOne
Guest FrustratedOne Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I think my gmail isn't syncing even though the settings say it is.
Guest muncheese Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 If you think that, then check. Simple.
Guest FrustratedOne Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 If you think that, then check. Simple. I did check, hence my post. It isn't syncing/updating unless i manually refresh Gmail.
Guest pvillasuso Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 I did check, hence my post. It isn't syncing/updating unless i manually refresh Gmail. Step 1 gotto settings / accounts & sync settings Auto-sync > enable Step 2 ( @ same windows ) Manage accounts Press your account - yes, [email protected] :P - ( it will give you more options ) and checkmark what you want to sync a)Calendar b)Contacts c)Gmail That would be it , no more to config over there ..

LOL thanks for the reply, but I am not retarded -- those settings are all good and well. I just don't know why the sync just seems to be not working, despite such. I figure something's interfering from the Cyanogenmod?
Guest muncheese Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) You still haven't expounded on your issue. "_____doesn't work" doesn't say anything about your problem. I'll say again, you "think" it's not syncing, so test it. Edited April 5, 2010 by muncheese
