I have just ssuucceessffuullyy performed the ROM update on my store bought, orange branded, HTC Desire. Good luck!

Say good bye Orange you evil money grabbers. The official SPL only allows flashing signed (read official) ROMs.To get root access you need to flash an unofficial, unsigned ROM. As the ROM in the link is official, you should be OK. The short answer is yes. You can cleanse your phone of the Orange impurities :huh:

Say good bye Orange you evil money grabbers. Just remember, rooting, or replacing your ROM with a non-official one, invalidates your warranty. Personally, I tend to wait until recovery images of official ROMs become available.
