If you're converting from pc to mobile, you should try Handbrake, which is one of the best.

Your video output should match as close as possible the liquid one (800x480), while format can be the same ad ipod/iphone (mp4).

Same.

This is my tutorial for video converter, originally in spanish and traduced by google...

A simple and free method to quickly turn any video and that to our reproduces them androids using all their potential (until 800x480)

By OX

First it is to unload sotf Format Factory, which as already I say is gratuitous and is updated every so often to be always to the vanguard: http://www.pcfreetime.com

Once unloaded and installed (eye that tries to you to put a bar of google or similar) we abrimos, it.

To the left we selected EVERYTHING to MOBILE DEVICES, now we pressed the Button To fit Exit.

For Nexus One, Líquid, Droid, etc: We lower until HTC dopod (surely shortly they will leave the androids in this listing) and selected 3er profile (800x480 mp4) and if we want to sharpen it a little we raised more tries to 1024 and already it is only is to turn!

For 480x320, choose the previous terminal (Google), the one that has the resolution of 480x320 (clearly) and in this although not it I have made a will, would have to go equal of good until with 768.

If some film is become deformed, we can to fit to you selecting it in the field “aspect ratio” of “car” “to expand”.

A small video of example so that can to hallucinate and so he is able to move our Android:

"KDEnLive" and "Kino" on Linux are free apps and work very well. I use Kino to do the transcoding (mainly as a front-end for the underlying ffmpeg) and then KDEnLive for any editing. Kino can edit, too, but KDEnLive is better.
