Hello

I have just got a new HTC Desire. I live in the US. I noticed that my boot loader is allot higher than what was mentioned.

My boot loader is 0.98.0000

Any ideas on what I should do to gain root access.

Looking to use apps that require root access. I have noticed that my HTC Desire fingerprint is missing from the google database. Allot of apps are not showing up.

Perfect Guide

Worked 100%

I updated to the modaco FW and then later updated to rooted 2.10.405.2

Great Guide!

Just to add any problems that I had "signature verification failed" were due to a bad gold card in the end I used the 4gb card that came with my Desire and it worked perfect

Hi

I am having a problem with this rooting guide.

When I am loading the update.zip, I get the following error message:

E:failed to verify whole-file signature

E:signature verification failed

Installation aborted

It might be worth to mention that I had to downgrade from 2.2 froyo to 2.1, due to the new HBOOT loader that came from HTC.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I am using the zip downloaded for bootloader 0.80,

When it says "Copy update.zip to sd card DO NOT RENAME IT" This file is not in the zip. Where do i copy this from?

Also when running "step1-windows.bat" I am getting "FAILED: (remote: 43 main version check fail)

Any help would be appreciated!

Daz

EDIT:

Finally rooted using unrevoked.

http://unrevoked.com/recovery/

Just make sure that you have got 7-zip installed so that it does not run as an executable file like I did :P

Hi there, I was following the tutorial step by step, but I've stuck at "# Navigate to the 'BOOTLOADER' and then 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select." point. My Desire seems to be turned off and can't make it to start. I can only hear the sound played when a device connects (when I try to power on). What should I do? I'm sure for 100 % I've done all the things just the way they are described in the tut.

Please, help.

add: It seems the display doesn't display anything, but the phone reacts...

when i did the step1-windows.bat it failed at 1 point:

INFO[RUU]WP,radio,51

INFO[RUU]WP,radio,59

INFO[RUU]WP,radio,100

FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)

< waiting for device >

sending 'zip' (137446 KB)... OKAY

writing 'zip'... INFOadopting the signature contained in this image...

INFOsignature checking...

INFOzip header checking...

INFOzip info parsing...

INFOchecking model ID...

INFOchecking custom ID...

INFOchecking main version...

INFOstart image[boot] unzipping & flushing...

..

..

but ends with:

INFO[RUU]UZ,userdata,100

INFO[RUU]WP,userdata,0

INFO[RUU]WP,userdata,100

OKAY

Rebooting to bootloader...

rebooting into bootloader... OKAY

Step 1 complete - now use the bootloader menu to enter recovery mode.

To do this, press the power button, wait a few seconds, then use the volume keys

and power button to select the RECOVERY option.

add2: another find out

I can start the phone without screen, it starts and everything seems to be fine but without screen. I can unlock it as usual by sweep and bottom buttons lights but everything without screen.. Still damned.

You don't have to use this guide anymore. Use Unrevoked and root it.

as i unplug the usb cable the screen now goes white with

with 2 caution icons in both bottom corners, when i pull out the battery and restart the machine it goes back to the original black screen with HTC and the four caution icons in the corners.

Does anyone know of a solution for this problem ? Fastboot still works...tried flashing a few files - boot.img, update.zip, pb99img.zip, nothing works :D

Why aren't you using unrEVOked? SO much easier

www.unrevoked.com

Guest cytracker

Tried using unrevoked but the phone kept restarting before being detected...anyway now I'm having that error and still looking for a way to fix it. :D

Hi,

It's partially fix now...I left the phone with battery pulled out for an hour and then i could run and finish without errors a RUU update.

I used RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_

igned.exe

Right now the phone has Android 2.2 but the initial problem, the one that was on 2.1 and the reason for trying to update hasn't been resolved - the phone reboots randomly especially when connected to the internet and youtube.

This problem is also mentioned on xda here: hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667728

The conclusion apparently is hardware problem, needs to be sent to service. :D

Thanks.

At least you're on a stock ROM so you'll be OK. I take it you didn't need a gold card to run that RUU?

Guest cytracker

Nope. No goldcard, the phone was unbranded.

I'm a total newbie to Android, and have recently got my hands on a HTC desire, and am blown away by it.

However, the firmware is 2.1 and as a result the device (unfortunatly) is suffering from the 'overheating' issue, and seems to get stuck in a boot cycle when it gets warm (putting it in the fridge does help !! ) . I've been trawling through various forums and found that I need to upgrade to 2.2 in order for this to be resolved.

The problem I have is as follows.

- When I look for updates using FOTA i'm informed there are no updates for the phone

- Looked to root the device in order to upgrade a custom rom, but HBOOT version is 0.75

All guides I find for this process are for version 0.8 or newer..........

Any help you guys can provide would be awesome !!

That's a known hardware failure. Don't root it and get it to a service center.
