i've got the same problem and i try again from start and no issue...

we can't wipe the device because the step 2 doesn't work further the 4th line (/sbin/unyaffs)

Make sure that your bootloader version is 75 and not 80.... otherwise it will not work.

I've made sure :huh:

I've tried wiping once, and it didn't work help.

I figured I might wiping again and using a livecd instead of virtual machine.

While I can't say for sure that this is the reason it didn't work before, it worked with the livecd.

step1 still flushed twice, but step2 finished successfully.

Just wanted to let you know since some people are stuck and it might help them.

On with the process now :P

I just wanna make sure, What steps do i need to redo to flash the radio rom? I tried to press the volume down, recovery, then i got to the triangle screen, but when i run the linux.sh file it says something about permissions, Offc i run it with sudo..

Thanks for your work. Rooted my desire with your original method and found the process smooth. A2SD working fine.

I will take some sort of membership up soon to help support your work.

One point, is this right (in the new instructions)

When this step has completed, using the optical trackball, navigate to the 'BOOTLOADER' and then 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select. Then, again in the terminal window, enter the following commands:

Seems confusing. The optical trackball only came into effect once the custom recovery was loaded ?

Just ran the gscript check.sh having installed the A2SD DALVIK-CACHE version.

I get:

stderr: [: permission denied

APPS2SD is NOT working!

Also people are saying they have 110-126MB free space on the phone yet I only had 84MB after rooting :-/

Nobody had say, that any will make it an video... why u think it?

i had also said one time my wish with the human interface profile for support a bluetooth-keyboard.

I have managed to re-enable access to the SD card by executing:

fastboot reboot

USB is still badword, and I think it's because of this line in the kernel command line:

Hi all,

Firstly thanks Paul for the root,

However i am styck tried the old method got stuck on recovery screen used VM live cd and a prober ubuntu instalation still stuck.

Have now tried new method and stuck in same place when i run command ./step1.sh i get input/output error, have tried VM live cd still no joy any help would be good as it seems i have bricked my Desire.

Optional update zips

Apply this updates after rooting by copying to sdcard any applying from the recovery image (entered using the recovery-xxx.sh method).

I'm used to the recovery of the g1. I don't understand how I can boot into recovery. Do I need to do the steps above again to get into recovery? I can't seem to find recovery-linux.sh to.

If I choose recovery from the menu I just get the red triangle not the menu.

Hi All

I try to do the job of getting root to my Desier.

1. I create the goldcard

2. I download and run (at vm) the linux

3. The cmd line, step1 and step2 are run ok.

but

at recovey mode, i select the wipe option and cannot find the apply update from sdcard.

Any help ?

The wip word with this file rootupdate.zip and not update.zip as it writting - is it ok ?

i boot the htc after the wip finsh

i run from cmd this command - adb push fonts /system/fonts

but i get error that i cannot write !!!

Any Ides ?

What this root process provides and does not provide

The root process will...

* flash your device with a new, generic 1.15.405.4 based ROM that has Superuser access

* show you how to enter the recovery image in future, allowing you to flash update zips

The root process will NOT...

* enable you to flash your device with a custom recovery image that can be launched easily by just holding down the volume down button when powering on

* enable you to have write access to the /system partition in normal use of the device

Both of these limitations are being worked on of course. wink.gif

I have a few questions!!

1. I just did the root thing...but the fact that we have no /system access is itthe reason why the openvpn installer can't install the openvpn binaries ??

2. is there a newbie guide for u can and cannot do with root access?

3. What kind of image can we now flash to the desire? after thr root thing...

4. is there any way to install aircrack on the desire? :-)

it does quite a bit like sends the zip, then does a bunch of radio commands, then i get the error

Remote 90 hboot pre-update - please flush image again immediatley

Any ideas anyone?

I did the new rooting guide ( iso option) and all went fine.

Now i want to install a2sd but don't know how.

I copied the file to the root of the SDcard

But i don't get how to go further. I found that i have to go to the recovery option but can't find the option to start from sd. I get to option after running: sudo ./step2.sh

Do i need to start that again after rooting to get the recovery menu or is there an other way.

Can anybody please explain the steps to run a2sd with the use of te last rooting guide in mind.

Is it also recommended to install 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2 Radio update after rooting. Can't find any info wat the bennefit is.

Looks finaly rooted but can't use my particion on my sd

I tried with few difference typ sd with ext2 and ext3 but same result :huh:
