Guest Paul Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Zilch / Cooliocopter - which ROM version are you running? P
Guest Robbie Khan Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Thanks for the simplified root, now I can get to work :P I have a question though, as you know, the Desire allows automatic backing up of settings and some data for when it is reset (wiped?) it can be restored. I wanted to know if this backed up data will mess up root if I choose to restore it after the wipe or is this incompatible now after root? I don't want to lose sense or my backed up settings as it takes a while to set everything back up again and I also could not find a restore option so I imagien this is automatic when booting up after a reset/wipe and I get prompted? Thanks!
Guest kewell79 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 where is simpler version? i only see 29/Apr r3 on first post? .....
Guest Sirakos Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Telstra released a new rom for the htc desire 1.16.841.1 So if I've rooted my phone with the current one on r3, to use the newer rom and still have root access, I have to wait until someone screws around with the new one, and uploads it. Then do I follow the normal r3 process but with the new rom? Sorry to be so dumb, but if someone can spell it out for me simply, it would help a lot :P

Guest omesanni Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Follow through these steps, one by one and at the end of it you'll have a rooted Desire with the latest ROM. Note: This process will wipe your device and there is currently no option to backup your device ROM before you start.Make your microSD card into a goldcard by following these instructions (it's a good idea to back up the contents of your card first!).Unzip the file you downloaded to a directory, then open a command prompt / terminal window at that directory.Turn off your HTC Desire, then turn it back on with the 'back' button held down. You'll see 'FASTBOOT' written on the screen in a red box. Connect the phone to the computer. In the terminal window, enter either 'step1-windows.bat', './step1-mac.sh' or './step1-linux.sh' as appropriate. When this step has completed, using the optical trackball, navigate to the 'BOOTLOADER' and then 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select. In the terminal window, enter either 'step2-windows.bat', './step2-mac.sh' or './step2-linux.sh' as appropriate. When this has completed, your device should be at the 'recovery' screen. Select the 'wipe' option, then select the option to apply an update zip from sdcard, and select 'rootedupdate.zip'. This will take a little while, so go make a nice cup of tea. When the flash has finished, reboot, and you are DONE! :PTroubleshooting Hi, I want to root my fone using windows right and looking the steps above i have some questions. 1) when i download the necessary zip file which r4-desire-root.zip do I have to put it at the root of the sd card and if not where do i put it. And please what and where is the root of the sd card. 2)Do i have to unzip the r4-desire-root.zip file? 3)When i got to the terminal window, do i just type say 4 example step1-windows.bat or do I have to type cd to move to the right location in the folder b4 type the step1-windows.bat command e.g. cd r4-desire-root. Sorry 4 my stupid questions, i just want 2 make surre i get it right as i have just finally braved myself 2 root my desire as i am scared as badword. I just wish someone can put up a video while doing the rooting process becos i can see so many videos of people who rooted their htc hero phone on youtube and there's none for the htc desire on therre. PAUL please can u put up a video of rooting the desire on youtube. I am beggin and am on my knees.

The 90 hboot error actually seems to be normal - I studied the stock RUU and it too receives this message, and it too then does a reflash... P i just rooted my desire 1 minute ago and the same happened to me. it started to reflash itself automatically, so i didn't get bothered very much. one thing that my worth mentioning: when the phone gets into the red triangle mode the connection between the pc and the phone gets lost, so you have to reconnect your phone to your computer so it can reidentify that it's a desire. then you can get to recovery mode and do what you have to.
Guest helikopter Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 any solutions for my problem?? Michael unplug and reconnect your phone to your computer.

Guest SiX-P4cK Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Hey What is the answer to the question then? Thanks From Kehaan a microSD card (to be made into a 'goldcard' - only necessary if your device is an operator supplied device) you don't need goldcart if you have generic device
Guest Wouter Van Daele Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Telstra released a new rom for the htc desire 1.16.841.1 You think this ROM can be used to restore the Desire back to the pre-root-process state? (the "HTC-supported" state) I'm just a chicken and want some ease of mind before I dive into this rooting procedure
