Guest Streetdaddy Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Same problem for me, at the end of step1... FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately) I can't root it... so what is the consensus on this error? do I just keep going? R3 killed my sdcard (or it was already on its way out), now trying R4 and I get this error as well. In fact I think I also got it with R3. I've got an unlocked Desire, 0.75 HBOOT...
Guest DLDarklink Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Will this work with the latest version of Ubuntu (10.x)? I've installed it, so im not using a Live CD

Update: I see this guys instructions here (http://linux.xvx.cz/2010/05/root-htc-desire-under-debian/) and in his output I see the same error, but no mention of it being a problem. But not sure I trust some random blog post... Update again: Well maybe I'm crazy but I just can't help myself... I went through step 2, worked fine, and rebooted. Going through setup now... will report back any issues And again: So far so good, setup went fine. Radio signal is as good as it ever was.... Edited May 4, 2010 by Streetdaddy
Guest moran679 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Either this guide is totally vague about the goldcard issue or i'm just very tired. I bought mine from a normal store, so I don't need a goldcard. But the first step of the guide says "make your microsd card into a goldcard", so do I just need to format it to fat32 and that's it? If so, will I be able to do this using the phone to format the card or an external card reader is needed? And - after I format the microSD card to fat32 (not a goldcard), can I format it back later to NTFS and use it normally (I probably can, but is it recommended)?
Guest SiX-P4cK Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) Hi everyone, I have turned my microSD into a goldcard and I'm now trying to root my HTC Desire, following your instructions. I meet a problem after the step "sudo ./step1.sh", I have the following message : "Desire Root Step 1 Erasing cache and rebooting un RUU mode... < waiting for device >" Then.... nothing... I wait and nothing happens... Is this normal ? What shoud I do then ? When you say "When this step has completed... go to RECOVERY", do you mean "while < waiting for device >" or something happens next so I can continue ? (Besides that, my phone is well recognised in my Virtual Box as a USB device.) So my question is : - do I have to wait until something happens while "< waiting for device >" and then type "sudo ./step2.sh" when possible ? How long does it take to achieve step 1 ? or - do I have to go in Recovery during this waiting time and continue waiting ? (doing thins makes my phone reboot and show a red sign besides a phone picture but nothing else happens) ? I hope having been clear enough :P Thanks a lot for your help :D Alexdroid. Hi all. I have the same problem. Except it is under windows 7-64bit and r4 way (windows only). When i plug the usb cable, "fastboot" (in red) become "fastboot usb" --> Windows detected a new hardware (android1.0) but can't install it. any idea? when i reboot the phone, the disk drive is well detected by windows... I don't have goldcart, my device is not branded. i plug direct on computer (no usb hub) thx. Edited May 4, 2010 by SiX-P4cK
Guest loolooaltern Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Hi everyone, Yesterday, I tried to root my Desire. To do so, I downloaded the linux image provided in method R3 and extracted all the files on my computer(which is running ubuntu) Then, I started to execute the commands in the step1 scripts one by one. While executing 'sudo ./fastboot flash zip testimage.zip', I got the "FAILED (remote: 90 ..." error. So, I did the command again and it worked fine this time. Then, I copied the next command from step1.sh without noticing that it was exactly the same (sudo ./fastboot flash zip testimage.zip) and it did the error again. So, I rerun it for the 4th time and it worked fine again. To sum up, it worked the 2nd and the 4th pass but did the error the 1st and the 3rd pass... Then, I tried to begin step2.sh but at the second command (sudo ./adb shell busybox --install /sbin), I got a permission error...so after some searches on this topic and google, I thought step1 has not completed correctly and the RUU was not flashed Then, I rebooted the phone It took around 10 minutes to shut on again and it was like the first time I put it on. All the apps&settings have disappeared and I had to redo the "settings tutorial"... Now, my questions are: Is it safe to retry everything from the beginning of step 1? (I would say, why not?) Why the command 'sudo ./fastboot flash zip testimage.zip' in step 1 is issued two times? Is it a kind of double-check or is it that it has to be done 4 times? And what about doing it 4 times like it was my case yesterday? Thanks in advance for any answer and thanks again to Paul for his really great job!
Guest michaelduijkers Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 before you install the update....wipe everything? wipe Data and Cache / wipe Dalvik-cache / wipe SD:ext?????? Michael
Guest DremoX Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 If that only happens mid way through step 1, don't worry, as it then does the reflash as instructed. If it occurs again, then it's an issue (that I don't know the cause of!) P It occur again on my device. I haven't read the whole topic here, but is it a problem if the SD card isn't "readable" when my desire is normaly booted? Also in Windows i can't read it. I think my goldcard isn't working proberly.
Guest Bakk15 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Hello. i'va rooted my phone. format a part of my sd card with 2Go ( ext2 then ext3, via recovery tools ) but, applications won't install on it, why ? i also installed A2SD just after the update edit : and when i want to reinstall A2SD : Copying files : E:can't symlik /system/xbin/[ E:Failure at line 5: symplink busybox SYSTEM:xbin/[ UP
Guest narcis1974 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 if I root my desire ,is possible to do update to Android 2.2(Froyo). Thank you very much.
Guest afiorillo Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) if I root my desire ,is possible to do update to Android 2.2(Froyo). Thank you very much. Rooting means flashing a ROM; flashing another (not rooted) ROM over it just unroots. :P So, having a 2.2 ROM the answer is: yes. But you'll lose root (al least until Paul won't release a 2.2 rooted ROM). Edited May 4, 2010 by afiorillo
Guest _Dejan_ Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 has anyone found out why this happens? im tried to help a friend who gets this...... could it be that he is using 64bit? Im use windows root option on my Win7 Ultimate x64 without problems... Im using original HTC Sync x.28 from SD card... Im try R3 before windows methode but it doesn't work for me. It has stop on step1 with known 90 ... error...
Guest Archerous Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 michael, you are the second person to have that issue... step 2 won't work because the test recovery hasn't been flashed on as step 1 is failing for some unknown reason. P It seems I am the next one, I tried all the USB port on my Dell laptop with windows 7. and yet not success!

Probably should mention that after it failed with the 90 error in step 1 it still kept going and finished the rest of step 1 successfully....
