OK been searching without any luck I got my desire from Vodafon on contract and its not network locked as I can use any sim card in it so do I need that gold card or I just go straight into rooting please

Further more as i see it, the rootprocess isn't completly accomplished as we don't have access to /system (as paul wrote in his tutorial) on a normally booted desire.

Thats the reason why some programs that require root don't work (e.g. adblock).

I my eyes this makes the desire less interesting compared to the nexus one, because we may never get write access to /system which causes a handicapped, still pretty awesome phone.

PLEASE SOMEONE ANYONE HELP ME FOR STEP ONE COMPLETED AFTER 7 REMOTE 90 ERRORS SO I AM HOME FREE RIGHT? STEP 2 WINDOWS EXECUTABLE NOT RECOGNIZED AS AN INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL BATCH FILE. NOW STUCK AT RED TRIANGLE. ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED. THX, KEVIN

Thanks Paul I figured it out on my own by thinking outside the box. I have many learning disabilities that make these things difficult and usually keep doing the same thing over and over again until I did what you advised. I moved the folder r-4 to the root of my C Drive from where it was Windows\System32 and then cded to the r-4 directory ran the command and Magic happened. Now time to apply your Modaco Custom ROM.

P.S. I had that user id on your site before but anyway to get my name back as my userid? kevinrirvine Much appreciated if you could do this change for me and yes I am the same person who had that one before. Pm me if possible. Thanks, Kevin

Has anyone had any luck under 7 x64 at all? No XP machines left in the house! :P

Is it that painful to boot a Ubuntu Live CD with the pushfiles.zip unzipped on a USB stick in the pc, open terminal, type sudo -s, cd to your usb drive and do ./step1-linux.sh, given that you save yourself all potential windows troubles?

Or do the 20c for the CD break the deal?

Are you running step2.bat? Detail *exactly* what you're doing.

P

1. I created a gold card like instructed here: http://android.modaco.com/content/general-...ng-a-goldcard/#

2. •Turn off your HTC Desire, then turn it back on with the 'back' button held down. You'll see 'FASTBOOT' written on the screen in a red box. Connect the phone to the computer

3. start a commandline in Windows, go to the folder i unziped the rooting files and type: step1-windows.bat

This works like a charm and after that i'm back in the fastbootscreen, the i select bootloader and after some seconds (when the green text is away and i can move with the vol button) recovery - it goes in the recovery screen

4. then i type step2-windows.bat and it ends with the following:

Pushing required files to device...

* daemon not running. starting it now *

* daemon started successfully *

error: device not found

error: device not found

Pushing update file to device sdcard - this may take a few minutes...

error: device not found

error: device not found

Now wipe and apply rootedupdate.zip from the recovery image menu.

and the device must be restarted with pulling the bat cause it's stuck in recovery

----

things that i also tried:

run the commandline (win7 x32) as normal user /administrator

try several linux live cds or tinycore in a vmware

------

things that i noticed:

in the device manager i get an unknown android 1.0 device where no drivers are found.

My Desire is an original HTC one, it works like a charm, (rooting, flashing roms, recovery........), but the one of my friend is a t-mobile branded.

I compared all infos that you see on the fastboot screen, everything is identical with mine.

i tried the same procedure with my device (it's already rooted, but just to get sure) and it works step1, step2, recovery everything.

------

some questions:

-it's a t-mobile software branded (no paintings or simlock) device, maybe i first have to flash a generic one?

BTW, just subscribed to an adfree account cause of the online kitchen, and it worked like a charm, also apps2sd works for me, thanks man for giving me a new "new" phone.

Hi Georgii,

to get apps to sd you have several choices:

-create yourself a rom with the modaco desire online kitchen and apps2sd included

-download one of the desire roms from xda-developers.com which included apps2sd

to check if all works take a look here: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...s2sd-miniguide/

Hope it helps and nastrovje

HTC sync is there, as told, on the same pc i can make everything with my HTC branded device, but the T-Mobile branded sucks.

On the same pc i rooted mine, flashed a new radio tried different roms and today make my own with your online kitchen. No problems with the HTC One.

I think tomorrow i will try to generify the t-mobile one first, and the try again

I'll give it a last try and then i'll shut up - Paul, do you think you can achive write access to /system on an normal running desire?

Guest _meta_

Well my desire is rooted but step2 was not completed successfully. I had errors. only step one was completed succesfully on linux (windows gave me errors).

?!?!?!?!?

So i just did the command "./step2-mac.sh" and everything worked well, now i'm in the Android system recovery.

The menu looks like this:

- Reboot system now

- USB-MS toggle

- Backup/Restore

- Flash zip from sdcard

- Wipe

- Partition sdcard

- other

- power off

As far is i can understand the guide seems to tell me that there would be an option under "-Wipe" to apply an update zip from sdcard, but the only things i see under "-Wipe" is:

- Wipe data/factory reset

- Wipe cache

- Wipe Dalvik-cache

- Wipe SD:ext partition

- Wipe battery stats

- Wipe rotate settings

so i dont really see any options for this, correct me if i'm wrong.

So it seems i did something wrong in the steps before this, is it ok to simply turn off the device and it should work again.

Guess what i'm asking is if i bricked my device or i simply dont see the option to install from SD card.

And if i did something wrong how do i put it back to stock(standard)

Best regards Alexander.
