Guest StuMcBill Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Anyone having issues sending MMS messages with this root? I am on o2uk and I never had any problems sending them before I rooted?
Guest kasper22 Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 The goldcard is for step 1, for step 2 you need to have rootedupdate.zip at the sdcard
Guest NarutoDKz Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Could anyone please explain "Wipe" to me. What does that really do?
Guest DLDarklink Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I'm sitting in front of my PC, staring at the screen, and hesitant to make the next step. Can you guys please bear with me, and explain, in detail, what goes on here? OK, here's what I have done: 1. I have made a goldcard. I now have a microSD which I made into a goldcard according to the instructions provided in the link in this guide. I presume this is an empty microSD with some properties changes so that it's "gold" 2. I have downloaded r4-desire-root.zip and unzipped it into a directory; I then navigated in command line and have "step1-windows.bat" in front of me, ready to hit ENTER. 3. I have my phone rebooted with the "Back" button held, so I have the "FASTBOOT USB" menu, and the phone IS connected to the PC. 4. REMOVE THE GOLDCARD - what does this mean??? Does it mean my goldcard should be INSERTED into the phone BEFORE I connect it to the PC in the "FASTBOOT" mode??? - does this mean I should REMOVE the goldcard from the phone AND replace it with a normal microSD (i.e. there has to be a microSD card inserter into the phone at all time)??? Really appreciate some guidance here, please. My main reason for rooting is, I really don't like the Sense too much and want a stock Google ROM, and also running low on memory is really killing me. This is my first-ever Android, and bricking it would be the last thing I would want now. Thanks!o Complete step 1, then turn off your device and remove the SD with the Gold stuff and place a 'normal' SD then continue with step 2. Could anyone please explain "Wipe" to me. What does that really do? i guess it means: clear all data / factory settings
Guest xTc is loVe Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Can somebody reup all the rooting files? Only the files not the 2 big images! Dont like to download all again! Only have the 2 images aviable. Thanks
Guest sonandreas Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Just moving from an iphone to android, happy with my device but i am really confused by this rooting and the rooting process, im quite techy but a total noobie in some areas. so can someone please answer my questions so that i can try rooting without rooting. can i still root with the same microSD card, i only have one. how do i open a terminal window? Make your microSD card into a goldcard by following these instructions (it's a good idea to back up the contents of your card first!). i got a sim free fone, do i still need to make my sdcard into a goldcard? When this step has completed, REMOVE THE GOLDCARD and either format it and replace, or replace with a different (non goldcard) microSD. Can i use the same sd card or should i format it?
Guest GeoTrail Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) I haven't rooted my Desire yet. I wanted to wait awhile. I have tried reading all the new posts in here since Paul started the post and made the root available. Anyways, I want to be absolutely sure that I don't brick my phone and want to make sure I do this right. Here are the details of my phoneHBOOT-0.75.0000 MICROP-031d RADIO-4.05.00.11 Mar 5 2010,21:12:15 Firmware: 2.1-update1 Radio: 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11 Build: 1.15.405.4 CL155070[/codebox] Which version do I need to download, AND, do I really need to make a gold card? I only have one MicroSD card and I have alot of stuff on in. I bought my phone from my service provider, but it isn't locked in anyway. I can use SIM cards from other providers in it. From what i understand this is the error you get if you don't have a properly done goldcard when you need one. I had the same issue and its because i forgot to change sdcard from my normal one to my goldcard after making it, Try making your goldcard again and then try step one. The step one script can't tell if its failed it said complete but its not actually complete. Edited May 11, 2010 by fatwolf

Guest mattypaus Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) Thanks Paul! Almost out of space on the system, so I'm looking forward to being able to use App2SD via Online Kitchen. Out of curiosity, has anyone tried this on vista/7 x64, I'm assuming if I can use the usb interface to make a gold card that I shouldn't have any issues? Edited May 11, 2010 by mattypaus
Guest EddyOS Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) Couldn't get it working on W7 x64 Ultimate so used r3 using the TinyCore Linux build - worked first time! How do you go about adding Apps2SD? Do you have to use a custom ROM or can you just add it? A video for setting it all up would help... Edited May 11, 2010 by EddyOS
Guest akashkotak Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 How much time does the rootupdate.zip take to verify and and complete update ...?
Guest EddyOS Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 About 10 mins? give or take a few (from my experience)
Guest NarutoDKz Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) I'm about to do this. (In Linux Mint) But I got three BIG questions: First and most important. Is there a good reason to root? Second: Will you be able to tell that it is rooted, (Any special apps or Icons) And third: Will memory decrease/increase. Please answer. Edited May 11, 2010 by NarutoDKz
Guest Dynanik Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) Will update the unroot guide soon to work but for now just replace the download on there to the HTC Asia one as I think that is a 0.80 ROM. You can find it on the 'stock roms' thread. Hi there, I cant't use RUU...i tried every version, O2 UK, Europe, Asian...nothing work! Wrong Boot Version... My current ROM Version is 1.21...I' don't know if this is right! My english sucks a lot *ggg* So its very difficult for me to translate the Rooting Guide an the following posts...by the way, the google translate tool sucks too!!! :-D I've started so many tries...After flashing Rootupdate and A2SD (fresh or upgrade, whats the difference???? I tried both...) and creating a partition, the system hangs on the next reboot. Only the "HTC" logo. I have to remove the battery to continue! The only Rom that works is the "PAYS ROM 1.4"! A2SD works too but the system cache also decrease a little bit! After installing A LOT (over 500MB) of apps and games, my system cache is full again! I have heared about to wipe the davliks cache for becoming space back...is this true? The cache is still full after wiping davlik cache via recovery-windows.bat... AmgkMod Rom don't starts like Modaco Rom, too!!! Only HTC logo... (Windows XP - o2 Device HBOOT 8.0) Edited May 11, 2010 by Dynanik
Guest al1ta Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 tinycore is unusable... I'm starting a VM from its iso... I haven't sshd neither ftp for to put the stuff needed for flashing the zip files
