Can anybody help me?

When i run step 2, the terminal report: "error: device not found". My desire not reboot to recovery mode with green screen.

Same problem :P

After i had executed the first step, there is a fail row: " FAILED (remote :42 custom id check fail)", is it normal?

I'm trying to root with the r3 method, because i have win 7 64bit.

After typing sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom in the terminal windows I get error, no such file or directory.

I really am stuck on this process.

I've finished step 1 having created a goldcard.

Step 2 is killing me...

I have a freshly formatted card in the device. Power on into the fast boot and the OS (Win7 64bit) correctly identifies Android ADB.

I then select bootloader, device manager catches up and shows Android 1.0. I can update ths manually to show Android ADB.

I then select recovery, the phone boots to the red phone with exclamation mark and I get nothing in device manager.

Suffice to say step 2 then doesn't work as it finds no device. HTC sync is installed, as is the SDK.

I have no access to linux (in hotel this week with no CD burner) so really want to get this working in Windows.

I've read the instructions numerous times and all the posts on the 85 pages to no avail :P

HELP!!!

This means your goldcard is not working.

Optional update zips

Apply this updates after rooting by copying to sdcard any applying from the recovery image (entered using the recovery-xxx.sh method).

32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2 Radio update - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid / CoBlitz) / MIRROR (ROMraid / Coral) / MIRROR (MediaFire) - DO NOT USE ON ORANGE

Umm i followed the first post and it all wen't very well, and i attempted to update the Radio update in the second post and followed those steps, all wen't good until device reboot.. Now my device won't boot at all, nothing, it's like it's no battery in it... Am i screwed?

No lights, nothing, trying to plug in through the charger or usb port with and without battery combo's but nothing.. And i made sure i did all the work with a fully charge battery too..

It just died. MD5's we're matching to after the downloads.

Use the r3 method as Windows causes driver problems ect. That FAILED (status read failed (Too many links)) is known in Windows.

Instructions are a couple of pages back for r3.

I think the above means a problem with your goldcard, Try making your gold card again

Did you try to remove the battery for a few seconds

Yup 4 hours, and before that i had the phone in the charge overnight... I've turned it in to the place i bought it and hope they don't see what i've done and won't repair it on the warranty hehe. It's defenitly software related since the phone blocked other phone from booting even with a corrupt send to the SD card, same behavior just remove the SD card and the phone boots, now i think the problem is the transfer from the comp to phone while flashing, something must have happened though i didn't get any error messages. Well hope they'll just reflash it and give it back ^^

Okay - I've got r1 on my phone.. all good, aside from FriendStream FC'ing a lot. Tried to flash an R2 release but the Recovery seems to be crashing, I get the recovery menu up and to start with I can use the trackball to scroll up and down, and then it just locks up. Can't scroll.. can't power off. All I can do is pull the battery out. Anyone else seen this?

Sorry but using windows....do u just double click the step files in the folder that u download?

Not quite sure how to open..... Unzip the file you downloaded to a directory, then open a command prompt / terminal window at that directory.

Also as my phone not from carrier I can just skip the goldcard step right.

I can do this but people failing on here making me paranoid/stupid lol.

Does the step "remove the sd goldcard, replace by another or format it and put it back" mean that i need to to power off the device to change the sd card? if so, what step i need to continue from?

You shouldn't need a goldcard but if you do all you will get is ERROR:(Custom ID Check Fail) in step 1.

Open a command prompt by typing cmd into search or run and use the command cd (change directory) to move around. So extract to C:/desireroot and then type this into a command prompt:

cd /

cd /desireroot

./step1-windows.bat

Good luck with Windows though, seems to have problems with drivers ect. If it doesn't work then try using the r3 method.

Without repeating step 1 i'm going straight to step 2 (recovery)?

I just rooted my phone but now i can not get it to sync with HTC sync, could somone help me plz

Many thx guys :)

I had the same thing happen to me (my phone could not find HTC Sync).. Found this response from htc , and it worked for me

" 1. Save any work

2. Uninstall HTC Sync

3. Start>Run>msconfig (Or windows key+r for run)

4. Services Tab, tick hide all microsoft programs (at the bottom of the msconfig window tick it)

(This is very important to click on hide all microsoft services first or computer issues can occur - be sure to tick this box)

5. Now once that is ticked, click on disable all (MS services are hidden as you ticked the box so they will not be disabled now)

6. Startup Tab, click on disable all

7. Close/OK then restart

8. The PC will restart with only essential MS programs running

9. Click on do not show this again

10. Install HTC Sync

11. Plug in your PDA

Is it working now?

If it does not see the below steps:

On our device browse to Settings > Applications > Development and then tick the option to enable USB Debugging. Now re-connect our device to your PC via the supplied USB cable.

Is it working now?

If it does not, or if it does, we still need to re-enable all of your background programs that you have installed on your PC to run in the background.

1. Start>Run>msconfig

2. Services Tab, click on enable all

3. Startup Tab, click on enable all (leave any unticked that you do not want that may be slowing your PC down - this is up to you)

4. Ok/Close restart

5. The PC will restart back as normal

Now go into Sync Manager> Tools>Repair

Is it working now?

Please let us know how you get on and we will assist you further if and when required as a matter of urgency.

We trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if and when required as a matter of urgency.

Thank you for contacting HTC.
