Guest craigcrawford1988 Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) i'm in real panic.. My phone is rooted and i've flash the device sevral times, so far so good but now just when i wiped it clean and was in usb mode for copying new rom to sd card, then something happend and the recovery screen froze so i rebooted and tried a new recovery but now it cant find the device. Tried the ./step1-linux.sh and there everthing works fine, but when trying step2 or the recovery and it just says cant find device.. I have linux 32bit and everthing has worked so far. Is it bricked? Have you selected "Bootloader" and then "Recovery"? PS: Don't panic, if you panic you WILL brick it by making a mistake. I had the same issue as you. Edited May 13, 2010 by craigcrawford1988

I had the same issue as you. Yes, i've flash the device with sevral different custom roms and it has been flawless until now, since the recovery meny crashed i'm not able to access the device with the ./recovery-linux.sh. The funny thing is that i wiped it clean so there should't be a rom in the phone but i started the device and it loads up but simcard or sd card isn't recognized.. And i dont have the superuser icon in the menu.. Looks like it went back to stock but why is the sim and sdcard unavailable? Edited May 13, 2010 by andy76q

Have you tried re-flashing to a totally fresh stock Rom, as per the "Unroot your desire" thread, and seeing if thesim and sdcard are available then? Stu

There's a command with fastboot to enable the SD card and sim a few pages back. First try my unroot guide though and see if that helps.
Guest Makrochain Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) I´ve got a verry big Problem with Step 2. A lot of people here in the thread have the same error but i have found no solution for this error. I have HBOOT0.80 and when i start Step 2 on my Win XP Laptop i get the fopllowing Error: Pushing required files to device... *daemon is not running. starting it on port 5037* *daemon started successfully* cannot stat 'files': No such file or directory - exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) Pushing update file to device sdcard- this may take a few minutes... - exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) 2436 KB/s (126445058 bytes in 50.687s) Now wipe and apply rootedupdate.zip from recovery image menu. - exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) After that nothing happens. I have tried my goldcard and a normal sdcard. I have tried Step 1 again and it worked but step 2 always the same error! Help would be verry great!!! Greetings Makrochain SOLVED: I, the stupid idiot, havent unzipped the files right..... Edited May 13, 2010 by Makrochain

Guest Chris Bensch Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 (edited) I've been successful on both win7 x64 and tinycore r4 on step1, but I can't get step2 to work in either OS. I keep getting "error: device not found" no matter what I do. Any suggestions? My phone is sitting at a black screen with a red triangle which is what I read it's supposed to be. edit: I used recovery-linux.sh to get into the recovery mode OK, but still can't get the damn step2 to work. How about if I manually copied over the rootedupdate.zip and used recovery-linux.sh to flash the update from zip? edit: OK...so I'm an idiot...you need to have properly partitioned your SD ***BEFORE*** attempting this...just FYI! Guest NisseGurra Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Paul: is time to put up a big warning on rooting dye to the number of bricked phones? Or put the root on hold.
Guest jeckyllhavok Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 For anyone which Sim/SD Card or USB /BT/FM isn't working after rooting come to the tread here: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...-and-root-a2sd/
Guest DavidThack Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Tried this method on a 16 gig kingston type 4 card and i cannot manage to get it to work. A 2 or 4 gig will work ok. Have you tried converting a 16 gig card for apps2sd. If you get the chance try one and see if it works for you as i have destroyed 1 card and had to do a recovery on my second one as it came up unknown size on comp. I have also asked paul to look into it about the 16 gig cards,Something isnt right. Thanks,Dave.

Use the third post of the kitchen thread, you'll end with a shiny r3 MCR :) Edited May 14, 2010 by afiorillo
Guest dancedreamfly Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Dude, I'm on OSX. Screw windows. I wouldn't use it even as a calculator :)) Hi. I am on OS X as well and encountered the same message. But I waited a bit more, and it was still successful. Thanks to Paul for root. I just got my Desire yesterday and rooted last night.
Guest Mitsy Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Hello Paul I have faced some problems with the rooting of my Desire: First, my desire is a SIM-Free device, so I don't think I need the goldcard process, anyhow, I did try to do it but it said that the img file is bad so the process was abourted. after that I tried to install the recocery image (The green lines, as in my Hero) but when mooving from the 'Fastboot' to the 'Bootloader' I got this message (attached pic) and the device was not discovered by my computer (using 'adb devices'). However. the Desire was discovered by the computer when it was on, in the normal method (plain reboot and entering the original Android...). Do you know whats the metter? Can you help me? The main reason for this root is to insert hebrew fonts. Thank you for answeringdesirebootloader.bmp

About discovering, have you installed HTC Sync 2.0.33? You can find it on the HTC support site. Without it your (Windows) computer cannot see the Desire when in recovery mode.
