Guest GeoTrail Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Got some problems here. I decided to go ahead a do this thing with my Desire. I went through step1 just fine. Using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. But when I complete this step: "Navigate to the 'BOOTLOADER' and then 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select." my phone restarted itself and started like normal. I did see a kinda update icon there. Anyways, I got to the PIN code and I shut the phone down, and entered the BOOT menu again, typed in step2-windows.bat and it says: * daemon not running. starting in now on port 5037. * * daemon started successfully * error: device not found The device not found message comes when it tries to push the update file to the sdcard, and wiping and applying the rootupdate.zip file. Now when I try to start the phone I just get a black background, with a picture of a phone with a rectangle with an explanation mark inside it. Hopefully someone can give me a hand here. I did create a goldcard, I still have it here. I did like the instructions say, remove the card after the first step.
Guest afiorillo Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 (edited) [...] Now when I try to start the phone I just get a black background, with a picture of a phone with a rectangle with an explanation mark inside it. [...] If "explanation" was intended as "exclamation", then you're at the recovery-ready screen: just plug the Desire via USB to your computer and run step2 according to your operating system. Guest afiorillo Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 [...] What's wrong? Windows 7 64bit You made the question and you gave the answer: 64bit is it. Use Linux or Windows 32bit, 64 is buggy for that.

Yeah, that's what I ment. I did step1 again. When it is finished, I removed the goldcard and inserted my everyday card. pop the battery back in, starts in bootloader mode by holding back and turning it on. Then I select RECOVERY in the menu. The phone restarts, I again see the black screen with a phone and the red rectangle with an exclamation sign. I then connect the phone to the pc again, and enter step2-windows.bat and get the same error* daemon not running. starting in now on port 5037. * * daemon started successfully * error: device not found I see now from step1 that there was an error (Right after INFO[RUU]WP,radio,100:FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediatly) sending 'zip' (137466 KB)... FAILED (command write failed (No such file or directory))
Guest Need_A_Username Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Maybe a noob question but: I don't have a carrier branded phone, so do I still need to make a gold card? And if I don't at which step should I start then? Ty,

Guest mishkat Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 doesn't seem to work on my HTC desire. the phone is locked on T-Mobile UK though. I am not sure if it's an issue. btw, i dont understand the part where i have to remove the goldcard. It cannot be done without taking off the battery. So i took off the battery and thn returned to FASTBOOT, connected usb again and navigated to BOOTLOADER. At this point windows vista asks for a Android 1.0 driver which i cannot seem to find out anywhere. When i navigated to BOOTLOADER there were some texts for a few seconds which showd somthing llike ''no image file'' or ''image file not found''. this was of course when there was a different sdcard inserted for step 2. even though i couldnt find an Android 1.0 driver, i tried to continue without it and selected RECOVERY from the menu. Phone rebooted & showed an icon of a phone with a warning sign in the display and just stuck there. although when i restarted the phone it took me back to my default OS. tried your instruction over n over, couldn't make it work. pls help !!!
Guest Muskie Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 What's wrong? Windows 7 64bit That's Wrong. it's been repeatedly said that 64bit OSes aren't supported. download an Ubuntu 10.04 Livecd and use that, or you could use the tinycorelinux build aswell.

The Telstra desires require r4-desire-alt to work, because it has a higher firmware version. (Also remember that if you're on NextG, you're locked out of most of m.bigpond.com till we get the device name reporting error fixed.)

Guest nerdo Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 @paul will there be "USB-PC" independent solution to enter recovery at some point!? How is 'Marigold' BTW
Guest Need_A_Username Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 (edited) I followed all the steps until the point where you get into recovery mode I can see the recovery menu on my Desire, but I can't navigate through it! I've tried all the buttons except the power button. At the bottom it says Build: not set I don't dare to remove the battery or anything cause I don't want to brick it! Any help please! BTW, I didn't use a gold card because it isn't carrier branded, so I just did all the steps with the same sd card in it OK this is not good, I managed to wipe (when I enter ./recovery-linux.sh in the terminal I can use my trackpad for a few seconds) , then I managed to start the update process, but it got stuck at verifying for 27 minutes, so I entered the main menu by entering ./recovery-linux.sh again, but I have no idea what to do :s OK, last edit: I turned the phone off using the few seconds I have in the recovery menu, entered the recovery again using ./step2-linux.sh and this time it worked. Guest zedeff Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 I recreated the gold card 5 times. No errors there. But same model id check error every time. Ive tried on Mac, Windows and Tiny Core. Please somebody help.
Guest afiorillo Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 (edited) [...] (when I enter ./recovery-linux.sh in the terminal I can use my trackpad for a few seconds) [...] That is bad! It seems that the communication between your computer and your Desire is messed up, you're likely a step away from bricking, as far as I know. Change cable/port/OS/computer ASAP. Guest codeXcalibur Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 I have a branded version, so I have to make a gold card. But I have only one Micro SD Card and no r/w device except the Desire to format it (between step1 and step2). I can only format the card with the Desire in storage device connection mode. Is there any possibility to root it? Could I format it with the bootloader of the Desire after step1 ?
Guest linkandzelda Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Hello, I have recently obtained an unlocked Desire and have been considering rooting. Can someone tell me the success rate for this rooting method using Mac OS X please? I would like to root just for the sake of it being rooted and possibly for installing a custom rom (Probably the one closest to the Nexus One). I am wondering if i would need a Goldcard for the process even though i have an unbranded device sim unlocked straight from HTC? Thanks in advance, Link
Guest zedeff Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Ok guys finally got it to work. it is flashing rooted update now. Had to try 3 different cards before it worked right. Thanks Paul and all forum members. Reading through all these pages has made me learn a lot.
