Guest dweebuk Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 Hi, I followed this tutorial last week, and this week Vodafone have released an update in the UK. I can't apply the update at all. I try and do it through recovery, and update.zip but it comes back with an error about it not being a valid update for this device (or words to that effect) Any help would be appreciated Thanks Daz
Guest Purplicity Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 I've referred to the instructions here everything works fine, after I enter in the command prompt : cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid I get an error : Permission denied. I tried reflashing the ROM several times& several roms but they all give me error CID, which is probably due to the fact that I couldn't create a gold card. I read once in a forum that the phone has to be in bootloader during entering the command (cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid any ideas??!!!

Perhaps you could upload it here so Paul could take a look at it and see what it adds / fixes and he might be able to include them in his rom. Stu

Use this guide: www.roothtchero.co.uk/goldcard-2 It uses this tool that should make it really easy  It says HTC Hero but goldcarding is the same for all devices.
Guest medomedo Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 Re-installing 39 apps and configuring them + 5 homescreens is not going to be fun so I think I'll hold off until a 2.2 rom is released because I'll have to wipe for that anyway! Hi Roobie, Did you try Titanium backup free ? You would have everything in place as it was. Peace!
Guest mctrials23 Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 (edited) I seem to keep having a problem after I have gone into recovery and started step 2. It says 'daemon not running. starting it now' starts successfully and pushes a load of files, asks for my password a few more times and then cocks up with the message Password: Sorry, try again. Password: Sorry, try again. Password: Sorry, try again. sudo: 3 incorrect password attempts I havnt entered any passwords for them to be wrong. any ideas? Edited May 28, 2010 by mctrials23

Guest Torhac Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 (edited) Hey guys, I rooted my Desire using the r1-method with a linux livecd and all is working fine. I think the guys over at XDA will have an Android 2.2-ROM up and going very soon, so I wanted to know how to flash a ROM, as I've never done it before. Since I used Linux in my root, can I still get to recovery using Pauls r5 instructions in the first post using Windows, or do I have to use a linux livecd again? I am using W7 64bit, will that be a problem? -TH Entering recovery in future Included with the root script is a script for entering recovery in the future. To use...Turn on the device with the volume button held downNavigate to the 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select. In your terminal window, enter either 'recovery-windows.bat', './recovery-mac.sh' or './recovery-linux.sh' as appropriate. It is recommended that you do NOT use the 'USB mount' functionality in the recovery image! Guest Mekerz Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 Hi all, I rooted my phone back in April with the R1 method. I had to unroot though as my phone developed a hardware fault (nothing to do with the root though I may add). I'm looking into rooting again, but just wanted to clarify something as I can't remember from the first time around. In the root guide, it mentions connecting the phone to the PC once you're in recovery (the red triangle screen) but it doesn't mention which of the connection modes to choose, i.e. Charge, HTC Sync, Mount or Internet Sharing. Is there a particular mode it needs to be in before running the scripts from terminal? Or does it not matter Many thanks Mark

Just boot your phone with volume down pressed and connect usb. Then go to recovery. On you pc then run the recovery-windows.bat (or other depending on your OS). Thats it :(
Guest rav1patel Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 Was just a bit bored so decided to root. Bit different to how I did my Hero but no problems. Cheers Paul!
Guest Corex Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 Yup 4 hours, and before that i had the phone in the charge overnight... I've turned it in to the place i bought it and hope they don't see what i've done and won't repair it on the warranty hehe. It's defenitly software related since the phone blocked other phone from booting even with a corrupt send to the SD card, same behavior just remove the SD card and the phone boots, now i think the problem is the transfer from the comp to phone while flashing, something must have happened though i didn't get any error messages. Well hope they'll just reflash it and give it back ^^ Well 2 weeks have past since i turned it in, good thing is they repaired it and on warranty, bad thing is, they had to replace the entire mainboard... That's it.. i won't try modaco's ever again =/
Guest xTc is loVe Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 which driver is needed? plz tell me!! I'm stuck in the same situation Its the Android 1.0 USB Driver. Its here i think http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/w...m-in-windows-7/

Guest steedy27 Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 in the r5 method is says: # It is recommended that you do NOT use the 'USB mount' functionality in the recovery image! What is the recovery image and why should i not use it ?
Guest hally83 Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 (edited) Just rooted my Desire (0.75/1.15) using Ubuntu 10.04 - after 4 hours of trying! Had goldcard issues, finally fixed with a 2gb Sandisk card instead of my 8gb Samsung. Then had Windows issues, which were fixed by using Ubuntu. Glad i've finally done it! was getting a bit pissed off! Cheers Paul! No more Orange crap! Hooray Edited May 29, 2010 by hally83

( im using vmware btw) thanks. Edited May 30, 2010 by T.i.e.s.t.O

I tryed tonight and it would not go past after step1-windows.bat just kept on waiting for device and nuthing happened.. not sure if its my goldcard Well first I got an error 41 or whatever it is, CID error - this means your goldcard is not working. fixed this by using a different card. Then when I got my goldcard working I was getting an error 90 - pre-boot something or other then another error after that when it tried to do it again. After switching to Ubuntu, I still got error 90, but on the retry it worked! If NOTHING is happening, try booting into Ubuntu and running ./step1-linux.sh, if it gives you the CID error then it's your goldcard. (I have Ubuntu on dual-boot anyway, but you may have to download the livecd) Alot more of a PITA than my Hero was to root! Edited May 30, 2010 by hally83
Guest qetuR Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 This may sound like a strange question, but how do I know if my phone needs a goldcard i.e. is not generic? I bought it from 3, in Sweden. By my guess, It would only be phones like the T-Mo and Orange that are non-generic. So is it true?

Guest odyseus Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) So does this mean that as I have an unbranded Desire, I don't need a Goldcard, so is the rooting process reduced to this?? * Copy rootedupdate.zip to SD card. * Navigate to the 'BOOTLOADER' and then 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select. * In the terminal window, enter either 'step2-windows.bat', './step2-mac.sh' or './step2-linux.sh' as appropriate. * When this has completed, your device should be at the 'recovery' screen. Select the 'wipe' option, then select the option to apply an update zip from sdcard, and select 'rootedupdate.zip'. This will take a little while, so go make a nice cup of tea. When the flash has finished, reboot, and you are DONE! smile.gif All the best John ..Answer NO you don't! # Unzip the file you downloaded to a directory, then open a command prompt / terminal window at that directory. # Turn off your HTC Desire, then turn it back on with the 'back' button held down. You'll see 'FASTBOOT' written on the screen in a red box. Connect the phone to the computer. # In the terminal window, enter either 'step1-windows.bat', './step1-mac.sh' or './step1-linux.sh' as appropriate. # Navigate to the 'BOOTLOADER' and then 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select. # In the terminal window, enter either 'step2-windows.bat', './step2-mac.sh' or './step2-linux.sh' as appropriate. # When this has completed, your device should be at the 'recovery' screen.
