Guest smkilani Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) hi, Is there anybody who could tell me what this means? Why is it giving me a Failed message? Edited May 30, 2010 by smkilani
Guest SanderX Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) I rooted my device on Windows 7 (64 bit) today :( With the first attempt I got the same "FAILED" error as smkilani (post above). I fixed this with adding a 'pause' to the step1 bat file. You can download it here. Edited May 30, 2010 by SanderX

Guest i6bazar Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 I am currently 0.75/1.15 and I want to root + go to 0.80/1.21. What should I do first : rooting my 0.75/1.15 then flashing 0.80/1.21 or flashing my 0.80/1.21 then rooting my fresh 0.80/1.21 ? The bricking fix is only working with a rooted phone isn't it ?

Guest Chura Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) [1]Make your microSD card into a goldcard by following these instructions (it's a good idea to back up the contents of your card first!). [2]Unzip the file you downloaded to a directory, then open a command prompt / terminal window at that directory. [3]Turn off your HTC Desire, then turn it back on with the 'back' button held down. You'll see 'FASTBOOT' written on the screen in a red box. Connect the phone to the computer. [4]In the terminal window, enter either 'step1-windows.bat', './step1-mac.sh' or './step1-linux.sh' as appropriate. [5]When this step has completed, REMOVE THE GOLDCARD and either format it and replace, or replace with a different (non goldcard) microSD. [6]Navigate to the 'BOOTLOADER' and then 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select. [7]In the terminal window, enter either 'step2-windows.bat', './step2-mac.sh' or './step2-linux.sh' as appropriate. [8]When this has completed, your device should be at the 'recovery' screen. Select the 'wipe' option, then select the option to apply an update zip from sdcard, and select 'rootedupdate.zip'. This will take a little while, so go make a nice cup of tea. When the flash has finished, reboot, and you are DONE! :( Hey, I'm probably missing something. I will get my desire tomorrow and i wanna be prepared. If i have unlocked device, i can skip 1 right ? now, the other question and more important: at step 8 i should point the device to the SD card for rootupdate.zip. But no where in no stage i was asked to copy any files to the SD. Furthermore i'm requested at step 5 to insert formated card. Please Advice, and sorry if its to newbie question. EDIT : Nevermind, got my answer :( in step2 --> sudo ./adb-linux push rootedupdate.zip /sdcard Edited May 30, 2010 by Chura
Guest Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 I'm trying to root my Voda UK Desire 0.75, 1.15.... Every time I run Step 1 I get (remote: 42 custom id check fail) and so i can't perform step 2. I am using linux and I have re-created the goldcard 4 times on 2 different cards following pauls guide and another on theunlockr. Opened the card (in microsd to usb adapter) and image in windows 7 using HxD (as admin), copied all from img, pasted in first 170 of the card, save. Remove card and re-insert, windows says it needs to be formatted. (I thought it should be accepted once it's done correctly). Did fresh full format to card using FAT32, default allocation size, tried again, no go. Any more suggestions?

Are you selecting the drive rather than the partition? The first time I made a gold card, I kept modifying the partition, which just makes it unreadable. Edited May 31, 2010 by Normola

The first time I made a gold card, I kept modifying the partition, which just makes it unreadable. Yeh I ran it as admin, I'm in Windows 7 x64. It only lets me choose the drive in HxD not the partition? I don't have any 32bit systems around to try.

Guest qetuR Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 I did the steps until: *In the terminal window, enter either 'step2-windows.bat', './step2-mac.sh' or './step2-linux.sh' as appropriate. *When this has completed, your device should be at the 'recovery' screen. Select the 'wipe' option, then select the option to apply an update zip from sdcard, and select 'rootedupdate.zip'. This will take a little while, so go make a nice cup of tea. When the flash has finished, reboot, and you are DONE! When I have written in ./step2-linux.sh, I get to the black screen with the green text. But I was unable to select any other option, the volume keys didnt work! What am I doing wrong?? If I start over, do I need to do the first step again?
Guest Rudolfje Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) In recovery you can use the optical pad. (Move over to select + Push to confirm) No need to perform step 1 again. Edited May 31, 2010 by Rudolfje
Guest qetuR Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 In recovery you can use the optical pad. (Move over to select + Push to confirm) No need to perform step 1 again. LOL! The optical trackpad is really bad and gave no response at all when I tried it. I got root-access now btw, THANKS A BUNCH! When I can see a FroYo rom from Modaco, the Modaco Premium membership is near! :(
Guest afiorillo Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 [...] It only lets me choose the drive in HxD not the partition? [...] When you select the "Open disk..." command you are prompted to choose from physical and logical drives: you have to select the physical one. :(
Guest Jakka777 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: No such file or director y Got this little error at the end of step 2. It's still telling me to go on, wipe and apply rootupdate.zip, though I wanted to confirm whether something is wrong and if I should go ahead. EDIT> Completed step 2, needed a goldcard. Guest Firewalker99 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Hi, i have some problems: im now in the wipe menu - Wipe SD:ext partition i choose this pressing trackball to confirm Wiping ext filesystem: . Error: Run ´wipe ext´via adb! What is the problem ?
Guest aslsthlm Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Thx Paul! Rooted with win 7 x64, no problem with SanderX modded step1 bat file :(
Guest whho Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Hi Paul, Thanks for the guide :( . I rooted my desire without any problem. In the process of making a goldcard, rather than opening a hex editor etc, I found it useful to do : dd if=goldcard.img of=/dev/sdc conv=notrunc (adjust goldcard.img and /dev/sdc to suit your namings) I hope I am contributing something too! whho

Whatever you do......DONT go to Hboot 0.80!!!!! Although it can be rooted, it causes problems with un-rooting later on. Just root your 0.75/1.15, and then install a MCR rom on it, which is based on a 1.21 rom and will leave your Hboot at 0.75!!
Guest Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 When you select the "Open disk..." command you are prompted to choose from physical and logical drives: you have to select the physical one. :( Yeh, my brain was selecting the correct thing anyway. I think it was the larger card wasn't playing nice. I used the method this guy mentioned. Although the blog post i found it on somewhere was incorrect, and suggested that you write it to the partition sdb1 not the physical drive sdb. The site clearly isn't worth the traffic so I won't bother trying to find the link again. Hi Paul, Thanks for the guide :( . I rooted my desire without any problem. How safe is it now doing so with an already set up system?
Guest athers Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 hi new to the htc so This guide will allow you to root your HTC Desire, provided it has a bootloader version of 0.80 or below and ROM version 1.21.xxx.x or below (2 different downloads are available depending on your ROM version). To check this, turn off your device, then turn it back on with the 'back' key held. ok done that and screen says -= BRAVO UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON HBOOT - 0.75.0000 MICROP - 031d TOUCHPANEL - SYNT0101 RADIO - 4.05.00.11 Mar 5 2010,21:12:15 FASTBOOT (ect) question - were does it tell me ROM version ? i bet this is a real stupid question and answer is obvious :( :( btw this desire is on orange
