Guest browners Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Brilliant stuff. I am with Vodafone and had thier version of the 2.1 Firmware .80 bootloader. I followed your procedure and all went perfectly. My phone is now standard. When I check for updates it finds one for 1.21.405.2 which downloads fine. When I hit the option to install, the phone goes through the process and reboots. Strange thing is when it boots again, the same version of Firmware is on. It is going round in circles??? Any ideas here guys.
Guest Spunky Bob Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Hi Browners... I posted just above you and was able to get it to work finally. But now I am having the same issue as you :) So I now have a non Telstra branded phone, buts its an older version then what I was on but unable to upgrade.
Guest Helsie Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Hi All, Thanks for the tutorial, but I cant manage to complete it OK. I have a Telstra HTC desire with boot loader .75 and its got version 1.16 I downloaded the "r6-desire-root-alt.zip" which I believe is the correct 1 When I run step1-windows.bat I get the following I thought maybe it would still work but when applying the update I get Verifying update package E:failed to verify whole-file signature E:signature verification failed Installation aborted Any ideas?I had the same problem with an unbranded Desire, rooted with Clockwork Mod Recovery and the official OTA update. I was safe to assume the update file itself was okay (it was checked by the OTA updater before rebooting). However, I got the signature failure. Because I had the Clockwork Mod Recovery I could: - disable the signature verification - select the zip manually - and voila, the update installed correctly. But I regret it now: I am on Android 2.2 with Sense, no root anymore, and I want to get rid of the Sense, which is now impossible. So know what you are doing. :)
Guest MarcinKrolik Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 (edited) Hey Paul, I'm new user of HTC Desire and the first thing which I wanted to do was to root it. Unfortunately, following your instructions results in below error, which as far as I understand is connected with my ROM version. It happens during step1-windows.bat About to start flash... < waiting for device > sending 'zip' (138708 KB)... OKAY writing 'zip'... INFOadopting the signature contained in this image... Is that correct? And one more question - do you plan to provide solution for rooting Desire with 1.24.X.X ? Thanks in advance MarcinKrolik BTW. Great guide! Edit: My phone is branded by polish provider Orange. Edited August 2, 2010 by MarcinKrolik
Guest Spunky Bob Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 yeah... i don't care about rooting or anything like that.. I just wana be able to update the latest version after applying the generic software in this tutorial.
Guest STANNY Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Can root or unbranding be done on my phone bootloader 0.83 original software number ( 1.24.161.3) original radio/baseband (32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09)
Guest adam.g.pullen Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Well finally did it. For those who dont have windows (for the goldencard work) I followed this tutorial http://softbanksucks.blogspot.com/2010/04/...ith-mac-or.html Then (embarrassed but honest) I followed this here http://androidforums.com/updates-cupcakes/...your-phone.html to ensure that it was rooted. It was a bit scary when the "Apply: update.zip" failed all 8 times the the phone seems a bit slower now, but we will see Next is the Bluetooth PAN. The only reason that i am rooting the phone in the first place http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1416 http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ Thanks

Guest CaspaTheGhost Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Ok, decided to go for Froyo now Paul has worked his magic... Orange branded Desire which has been debranded to stock ROM using the guide... Sorted my Goldcard and went through the steps as per the instructions... I get the '90 hboot error' but then it continues... Go all the way to recovery where the text is blue and I have the 'E: cant open /cache/recovery/command'... Wipe and then apply update.zip it starts up and then once it gets to installing it immediately says aborted?!?! When I reboot it has simply wiped and im still on the stock ROM? Any advice?
Guest PhoenixWrong Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 This rooting procedure worked perfectly on my unbranded A8181, now I'm about to flash it with the MoDaCo custom firmware. Thanks Paul!!!
Guest Tiegui Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Hi, If I root my phone, my bootloader will be downgrad too or must I do another thing?
Guest shamblesben Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 I am attempting to root my HTC Desire by following the instructions and i am having problems doing this. First of all when i do the 'step1-windows.bat' Desire Root Step 1 Erasing cache and rebooting in RUU mode... erasing 'cache'... OKAY ... To do this, press the power button, wait a few seconds, then use the volume keys and power button to select the RECOVERY option. Now i don't know if the FAILED messages have any thing to do with the problem i am receiving next. My next problem is when i get is once i select 'Apply sdcard:update.zip' on the recovery screen. of my phone i recieve the following message: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command... -- Install from sdcard... Finding update package... Opening update package... Verifying update package... Guest rayu88 Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 I tried rooting my Tmobile branded Desire everything went fine with step1-windows.bat after this I navigated to bootloader and choose recovery this is where the problem started and my phone freezes and is stuck in the pink tmobile boot circle. I never get to the black screen with the red triangle. - In the terminal window, enter either 'step1-windows.bat', './step1-mac.sh' or './step1-linux.sh' as appropriate. - Navigate to the 'BOOTLOADER' and then 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select. - When a black screen appears with a red triangle, press and hold 'Volume Up' then tap 'Power'. I've been trying since to boot my phone, i can get into the bootloader but when I choose boot or recovery it freezes. Anyone have a suggestion?

Guest BongoUser Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) Hi, It looks like a lot of german T-Mobile Desire has a problem. We can can: - Update from T-Mobile ROM to HTC WWE ROM - Update to Froyo - Downgrade to Bootloader 0.8 We can't - Root the Device ( Error 43 or Error 42 ) - Update to other ROM's T-Mobile ROM and WWE ROM don't work => Error: bootloader version error To "repair" this error we have to root the device, but this does not work. Guest tigris666 Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Wowzers. Long thread is long. I've just finished reading all 125 pages, and seen a few other people ask the same questions but no answers to be found. I fear there are no answers as no one knows, or they are stupid questions, but i'll ask anyway. 1. After a successful update using this guide, should one ignore system updates from HTC? I just got a notification about 1.21.405.2 being available but was too scared to hit OK for fear of having my ROM wiped back to the stupid telstra branding (it should be noted, i only followed this guide to debrand from telstra, i care not for any kind of rooting/unrooting/whatever, so if updating to 1.21.405.2 is a generic HTC update, i would be fine with it). 2. Like other telstra purchasers (not a telstra customer, but they are the only carrier to sell the phone here in Australia), my model number was an A8183 before following this guide. It is now a A8181. I've no idea if this means anything significant, perhaps it's just related to the 1.15 ROM being quite old now and the Telstra phones are relatively new. Any thoughts? Really hoping for an answer to number 1 especially, since i've seen quite a few people ask it and I can't find an answer from my 3 hours of browsing this forum. PS: love your work guys, if it weren't for you, i'd have 15 telstra apps on my phone right now that did nothing other than link to websites that only work if you have a telstra sim.

Guest RogerM Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Hi Guys, I've done the update procedure as described and the command prompt of windows seems fine after flashing and all that stuff. But now I have a blank screen on my htc and it won't come back into life. I can do the flashing procedure via usb all the time - so there is still hope. Can anybody give me advice? I have a new htc desire and I've read the htc has changed the displays - Can that be the cause of the problem. Is there any other testimage.zip with all the img files which I can download which could work? Any advice is welcome Regards Roger
