Hi,

Sorry I am coming from the WinMo world, this is my first Android phone.

I was just wondering whether there are any negative impacts to rooting:

- Can you still install updates from HTC ? (firmware or other) ?

- Can you install things from the market ?

- ...

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi there, the answers are yes and yes as far as i know. Though installing an official update from HTC is not recommended, as it would most likely "unroot" your phone and possibly modify the spl rendering it not rootable anymore until a new exploit is found. As far as the advantages are concerned, you can install custom roms ( a few are already popping out over @ xda developers and more will follow for sure), update your radio, use software that require rooting ( such as backup utilities, tethering, apps to take screenshots etc etc) and you can install apps to your sd card without having to worry about filling all the internal storage and at the same time gaining a lot of speed in both installing and running said apps (depending on the speed of your memory card  ).

2 negatives: you might brick your phone if you don't know what you're doing; and it voids your warranty.

Having said that, I've rooted mine
